Last Order: Final Fantasy VII
Last Order: Final Fantasy VII is a part of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, which is a series of spin-offs, prequels, sequels associated with the Final Fantasy VII universe, story, and other similar elements. It was released in Japan on Sep. 14, 2005 and North America on Feb. 20, 2007. It is an anime original video animation (OVA) produced by both Square Enix and Madhouse. It was produced by Masao Maruyama, Jungo Maruta and Akio Ofuji; and directed by Morio Asaka. The OVA was released in Japan with Advent Pieces: Limited, which was a special edition release of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, it was also included in the Limited Edition Collector's Set of Advent Children in North America.
The video animation shows two flashbacks found within the original Final Fantasy VIII video game. It is narrated by the leader of the Turks, Tseng, as he explains the two events the video takes place in. One storyline takes place in Nibelheim and mainly focuses on Cloud, Sephiroth, and Tifa. The other narrative follows Zack and Cloud as they run from Shinra corporation.
The soundtrack was released with the music of Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII, and select songs were later remixed for Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. The OVA was created due to the success of promotional commercials for Before Crisis and the production lasted about six months.
There were 77,777 copies of Advent Pieces: Limited that were released in Japan and it sold out months before the official release date. The flm received pretty poor reviews, especially from long-time series fans disliking how the original content from Final Fantasy VII was changed.
