Overview

Square Enix finally went back to the traditional way of handling the series. Since Final Fantasy X, Square Enix has experimented with a small sequal, Final Fantasy X-2 and their MMORPG, Final Fantasy XI. Final Fantasy XII goes back to the core of the series by offering a unique storyline, a party setup, character advancement, and new solid gameplay features.

Final Fantasy XII was the last title released exclusively for the Playstation 2. The twelth installment introduced a new Gambit System, which automatically controls the actions of characters, as well as and a new License System, whichdetermines which abilities and equipment are used by characters. On March 16, 2006, Final Fantasy XII became the sixth game ever to receive a perfect 40/40.


Prologue

This title has a series of spin-offs and sequels, which include the following titles:

  • Final Fantasy XII
  • International Zodiac Job System - Released later in Japan in 2007. Includes 12 License Boards (one for each different Zodiac sign and job). Also has a few different game modes an a bonus DVD.
  • Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings - A sequel to the original game released for the Nintendo DS in 2007.
  • Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age - A high-definition remaster of the International Zodiac Job System version of the game. Scheduled to be released worldwide sometime in 2017 for the PlayStation 4. Other additions include a newly recorded soundtrack and trophy support.
