Re-releases

Final Fantasy V was later re-released under a number of different platforms and titles, including:

  • Released for the Playstation in Japan (03/19/1998), by a company named Tose
  • Released again as a Playstation exclusive called Final Fantasy Collection on March 11, 1999. The collection also included Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy VI
  • Final Fantasy Anthology - A compilation released for the Playstation in North America on January 13, 1999.
  • Final Fantasy V Advance - A ported version for Gameboy Advance released on October 12, 2006 in Japan.
  • Wii Virtual Console (JP: 01/01/2011)
  • Playstation Network as a PSOne classic (JP: 04/06/2011), (US: 11/22/11)

In 1994, Square released an original video animation sequel to Final Fantasy V, simply titled Final Fantasy. Produced by animation studio Madhouse, the anime was released in four 30-minute VHS tapes in Japan and was set two hundred years after the game. It was later localized by Urban Vision in 1998 and released in two VHS volumes for North America under the title Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals.

Final Fantasy V was first introduced to North America in this Final Fantsay Anthology compilation, which also included Final Fantasy VI; the European edition included Final Fantasy IV instead. There were several new additions, improvements, and changes compared to the original release, including:

  • New CGI openings and endings
  • Concept art gallery
  • New Bestiary



Final Fantasy V Addvance

Final Fantasy V Advance Box

Final Fantasy V Advance was a direct port to the Nintendo Gameboy Advance. This followed after a failed attempt to port to the WonderSwan Color in Japan, due to technical/hardware limitations of the console. Although the game is a port, there were many new additions and differences, including:

  • Enhanced graphics
  • 4 new playable classes - Gladiator, Canoneer, Necromancer, and Oracle (Click here to learn more)
  • A new dungeon called the "Sealed Temple"
  • A new boss called Enuo
  • Detailed bestiary
  • Quick save function
  • Music player
  • New and better english tranlsations
