Monk

The Monk is a melee job straight out, as strange as it is the Monk also has the most HP of all the jobs because of its job traits that give it extra HP. This allows the Monk to be a great fighter that needs little healing during the battle, as such the healer and focus on recovering other melee jobs that are hit be Area of Effect (AoE) spells and the tank. The extra HP also make the monk a good choice for first provoke in a SATA party, providing the Monk has warrior as a sub job.

Also the Monk uses primarily only their fists in combat, meaning two hits each fist is a weapon. However, a Monk is a long delay job because of this. Though as you progress in your career as a Monk you will be learn to become faster and quicker with your punches coming close to rivaling the speed of a sword.

Life as a Monk

A Monk is a melee fighting job to the end of its days and a strong one at that, to the point where it is only good as a career job. Monk is not a job that supports well with other jobs, lacking the tanking abilities that come with a warrior. Though many say that a Monk is a great job to start out with when you are first starting, people do not always have the time to level several jobs up. So if you are going as a melee, but not a Monk, its suggested not to waste time on the leveling the job that will not sub well later. Level a warrior and be ready for what ever career job you are looking at.

Being a career Monk though means certain things, you are a melee fighter above all else. Attack, Delay, and Accuracy will be your greatest weaknesses to overcome, Attack not so much, but speed and accuracy will continually plague you. The traits that are passive to a Monk makes up for the speed and abilities work to help your accuracy, but it will still be poor. Finding equipment that increases your accuracy will be paramount, such as a Lifebelt. Increasing your own already strong attack will only go to further yourself as a damage dealer in a party.

Also remember that with the extra HP and vitality that comes with a Monk time might call you to back up the tank. As a Monk you are the best job to handle this, subbing warrior can benefit you greatly. Though subbing as a Thief or Ninja can add your evasion, agility and dexterity as well as the bonuses that come with those jobs. Another job of consideration can be a Samurai sub, with Mediate the ability to gain large amounts of TP fast will make you a deadly Monk and great for Skillchaining.
