Overview
Final Fantasy XI was Square's first massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), meaning unlike their other games, FFXI is completely online. It was initially released for the Playstation 2 (03/23/2004, US), then for the PC, then later was even released for the Xbox 360 (04/18/2006, US), as the system's first MMORPG and the first cross-platform MMORPG.
Final Fantasy XI still maintains a strong number of subscribers, at least compared to other MMORPGs, with about 500,000 to-date - peaking at about 2 Million in 2006. The game received positive reviews but some argued it's unorginality, large camping sites, and long EXP grinding with repitive quests and missions.
