What do you think about tattoos?
Some are tastefully done, others are not. Over all I do think it is an art form with the person doing the tattoo being the artist. Now the design that someone decides to go with is up to them and can't really blame the person that did the tattoo if they liked it back when they got it but hate it a few years down the line.
-are they an expression of art?
Yes, they are a living expression of the artists hand.
-are they an attempt to fit in?
Sometimes and sometimes not, it depends from person to person.
-are they a waste of money?
Depends on what they are of and if the person likes them or not. Over all if the person likes them then they will feel that it was not a waste of money.
-black&white or colour?
White? Thats a pigment in tattooing. Calling BS on that one (or discrimination haha). Also White is not a common color when someone is being tattooed and most artist will discourage using that pigment because the color fades and will not hold for long at all.
So I will say I like black.
-should they have a meaning?
Its up to the person that is getting one. Honestly who care what someone else thinks as long as you are happy with your choice.
Now on to a few gripes. (Yes I just powered through the questions to make a few statements)
First off:
Starfighter:
As i've stated before, id rather get a tattoo that I think looks wicked as opposed to something with meaning, Since the meaning wears off after time and you're just left with the tattoo.
Just because your choice in something that didn't last doesn't mean that it will be applicable to everyone else. That is a broad statement that you are applying to everyone.
My tats do mean something to me and alway will, I will explain more later in this post.
I hope most of this is in jest. I know some people have tats that could be seen as a reminder of certain dates, maybe dates that they don't want to forget but most of the time, specially in my case, it is not a reminder but a way to honor those dates. Epic dates that not only changed my life but also brought 2 amazing children into this world.Unknown Entity
I don't particularly like them unless they're done properly, or signify the right thing. For example, names and dates aren't really my thing. Why do you need names and dates etched into your flesh? In case you forget the names of your loved ones and their dates of birth or anniversaries?
I need no reminder. I exonerate and cherish.
There is more I want to say about some of the above posts but I will move on for now.
My tats. I have two now. Some of you know this and most of you don't because you are not my friend on FB to see the pics. If you are my friend on FB check them out if you haven't seen them.
The tats are on my left and right wrists and each one incorporates each of my children's names along with their birth date surrounded by a flowing banner. I designed the layout of the tats myself with an over all image that would appear when the two tats are brought together (for those that cant see it or can not guess they make a very simplistic heart via the swooping banners).
I didn't get them as a reminder of just a date, I got them because those were life altering dates and I felt that expression via tattoos would be a great way to honor my children (outside of being the best dad / father (yes there is a difference between father and a dad) that I can be.)
Even though both designs are based off of simplicity and the over all heart is simplistic the whole tat display is complex. (I will try and get a pic up in the member picture thread soon). Complexity through simplicity, yeah I know I have said that before.
I have had Breyens for over 3 years now and the Friday before last I had Aadens inked and Breyens reinked to match the color of the new one. I love my tributes to my children and always will even when I am on my death bed and they are all wrinkly and faded to almost nothing.
For now I will shut up and hope I put some perspective into the posts that I quoted. Trust me there are more I want to quote but need to get in the shower.
