I wanted to take a peek at this film but even if I said I was going to, I wasn't lol. I hear mixed reviews. Some says it's a dude's Twilight. Others much like myself say it's America's Battle Royal. I believe the love story was added to the film?
It is nothing like Twilight and I hope the rest of the films stay that way. The romance was a key aspect to the book as well, but the film didn't really portray how Katniss actually felt.
Spoiler:
For example, in the book she talks about how she doesn't really want to kiss Peeta and that she mainly does it to stay alive. For her it was all about keeping them both alive, but in the films it seemed to me like she really was interested in Peeta romantically in the arena which is different to the book.

Apparently they're going to continue to emphasize the romance in the forthcoming films, which to be honest I'm okay with. As long as it's not the focus, because that's not what The Hunger Games is about. I'd also like to point out that Gale was not her boyfriend. They're best friends and yeah, he has feelings for her but there has never been anything romantic between them prior to certain events.

As for my opinion of the film, I loved it. I agree that some of it felt very rushed but it's hard to fit 450 pages of words into a 2 hour film, so I understand. The acting was brilliant, especially Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks and Woody Harrelson. I was disappointed to find some parts of the book cut out but at least it was nothing major to the plot. It wasn't as good as the book which was expected but overall a really good adaptation, I recommend seeing it.
