    Hunger Games

Gawwwwr OMG I think I jizzed my pants

New The Hunger Games Trailer Official 2012 [HD] - Jennifer Lawrence - YouTube

The OFFICIAL Hunger Games trailer I can't wait.
I don't know if anyone else had read the books but if you cant already tell I am excited.
    I didn't recognise Jennifer Lawrence(Katniss) until I watched X-men first class.
I think Josh is exactly what I pictured Peeta looking like.
And it is good to see the aussies again with Liam Hemsworth as Gale.

Oh hot damn! I didn't see the trailer because I can't view it on my phone right now. But I'm still really looking forward to this!!!! Do you know what date it's being released in Australia? I might just venture out and actually see this at the cinema, instead of waiting for it to come out of dvd like I always do

I absolutely loved the book, so I am very excited. Though in my experience most books turned movies usually fail. Compared to most this looks pretty good. Either way I will see it, hope it is good.

Sitting here waiting for Rocky, and Che to notice me!!

Here is the (Australian) FB page for it Nikki but they haven't specified a specific date yet.

Yeah I know what you mean Josh but I have a feeling this will live up to the books I just hope they don't skip to many details.

I really cant wait to see the Hunger Games cuz I know its gonna be amazing. I first known about the story from youtube when someone was making a sims story of the Hunger Games and since then I really am looking forward to watch the film I cant wait to see it. I think Josh Hutcherson is a great actor so I think Peeta would be perfect for him.

If you think you'd like the Hunger Games, I emplore you to check out "Battle Royale" as it's pretty similar to Hunger Games and probably a lot more interesting than the americanised version of it.

Would you recommend the film or the book, it sounds good, very much like Hunger games but the reasons the kids are forced to fight are different.

The film is great, the book has more detail although the film was done really well. I might watch it again one day soon.

    Re: Hunger Games

Saw this today, thought it was pretty entertaining. Wasn't sure how I'd feel about it at the start with her boyfriend and her kid sister-some of the dialogue I felt was a little "meh," like calling her sister a "little duck" (felt forced) and it reminded me a little of a movie made for the scyfy channel for a little while. Then it got better, though. Katniss was a strong, cool character, and so was that little girl from District 11 that she befriends. Also liked Woody Harrelson a lot as their mentor guy; when he came on, for a second I thought it was Sawyer from Lost. Kinda acted like him too. That lady with too much make up was funny too, and the dude that goes with her was alright. Action sequences were fairly well done, aside from the shaky cam making it hard to tell what was happening at times.

I don't understand the premise for the games, though. Sending kids to fight to the death for everyone to watch maintains the peace somehow...? Although...
    SPOILER!!:
I guess that the richer Districts were trying to keep control over everyone else, and this was their idea, so they'll keep everyone in control by distracting them with games. Games that involve their children dying... which, as demonstrated halfway through the movie, might actually piss them off and incite a riot.
Yeah, I still don't get it.
    SPOILER!!:
I also find the love story to be a bit improbable. I suppose it's okay that he starts out with preexisting feelings for her, and given how they were set up in rooms together before the games started, it'd make sense that she might start falling for him too-with or without boyfriend back home. Yay, love triangles!

Beyond that though, the love subplot weakened the rest of the movie by making it possible for them to be together at the end. Changing the rules halfway through to benefit the one District with two tributes left, significantly raising the probability that one of them will be the victor at the end? Wouldn't that piss some of the other districts off? Totally saw them changing the rules back coming, btw. And them rebelling. And the boy back home being jealous. What I didn't see coming was the people in charge stopping them from killing themselves. Makes them look kinda weak. Of course, the one guy paid for it, but yeah. Story would've been stronger if it hadn't forced the love subplot to work.

So yeah. It's got its flaws. Good movie though. Anyhoo...

    Re: Hunger Games

Saw the film last night. It was a lot better than I expected but I felt a few things ruined the overall experience. Still I thought it was an excellent movie overall.

    Spoiler:
The faceoff at the end was such a huge anticlimax. There was no proper build up to it either. It arrived and as soon as it did, it was over.

And the fact that two were allowed to survive also left a bitter taste in the mouth. It would have felt right to kill off the love interest to keep it grounded in reality(relative to its own universe), but the fact he was alive was a huge indicator that this was based off teen\young adult fiction. And the relationship between the two characters didnt feel organic, just forced.

Though being a huge BR fanatic, I would be overly critical so these criticisms should be taken with a pinch of salt. For those asking about BR, the film is far superior to the book but the book is still an enjoyable and informing dystopian fiction.

    Re: Hunger Games

Saw it, loved it, hadn't even heard of the book until I saw it, now I'm interested and will probably read it.

    SPOILER!!:
Really the rule change was as much a disadvantage as it was an advantage, being told that there is one alliance who you won't be able to wait out until one betrays the other to get rid of tells anyone left in the game that they need to focus on those two. So I mean plot wise yeah, it was totally so they could have a happy ending... at least as happy as a 24 man death match can end. But strategically speaking, that rule could hurt just as much as it helps. But then really, it doesn't seem like they really cared about making it a fair game, spawning random forest fires next to people and all the other crap they did to favor some but hurt others.
For Our Lord Sheogorath, without Whom all Thought would be linear and all Feeling would be fleeting. Blessed are the Madmen, for they hold the keys to secret knowledge. Blessed are the Phobic, always wary of that which would do them harm. Blessed are the Obsessed, for their courses are clear. Blessed are the Addicts, may they quench the thirst that never ebbs. Blessed are the Murderous, for they have found beauty in the grotesque. Blessed are the Firelovers, for their hearts are always warm. Blessed are the Artists, for in their hands the impossible is made real. Blessed are the Musicians, for in their ears they hear the music of the soul. Blessed are the Sleepless, as they bask in wakeful dreaming. Blessed are the Paranoid, ever-watchful for our enemies. Blessed are the Visionaries, for their eyes see what might be. Blessed are the Painlovers, for in their suffering, we grow stronger. Blessed is the Madgod, who tricks us when we are foolish, punishes us when we are wrong, tortures us when we are unmindful, and loves us in our imperfection.

    Re: Hunger Games

I read the books and watched the movie. When wanting to know the story first the book is a must, considering how I feel it's going to become a classic like Harry Potter and all those other classics soon enough.

The movie in my opinion was great, it included everything necessary, yes.

    But not epic.

Everything felt too rushed where I felt at certain parts could've been taken a lot slower.
Not as great as other movies, in my opinion.

I understand that in the movie that the poor districts are gun down poor and that the big guys/rich people are described as fancy looking in the book, but the way the movie contrasted the two was over done. The districts didn't feel like a real society as I was watching the movie, and the rich guys were overly colorful. Another thing they should've fixed on or taken real slow, so that the audience could get used to the setting a bit more.

But overall a great movie, for at least the storyline and action scenes kept it alive.

Finally went and saw the movie myself, they skipped a few key parts that I thought should have been in there like Haymitchs original intro in the book.

    Spoiler:
Also when they were short on water and Haymitch didn't send them any because he knew they were close

I pictured the mutts looking different I thought of them more like werewolves able to stand seeing as they were meant to resemble the
    Spoiler:
    dead contestants.

A lot of the detail from the book that should have been portrayed by the actors reactions etc were extremely subtle and almost easy to miss.

Other than that I really liked definitely an owner.

    Spoiler:
The premise for the games is to teach the other 12 districts not to host a rebellion against the Capitol (the ruling city) after District 13 uprised and were wiped out by the Capitol, henceforth the now host the Hunger Games to try and teach them a lesson, like you said you would think it would only enrage them further.

The Capitol rules over 12 districts previously 13 that provide the Capitol with everything they need food, technology etc etc so the people of the capitol can live extravagant, and are ruled by an extremely heavy iron fist by the Capitol, they are given little pay for what they do and barely survive, whatever they produce for the Capitol is for the Capitol only and never finds it's way into the homes of the districts so forth there is poverty famine etc

This book/movie pretty much took the term "I'd kill for some food" way to literally.

I wanted to take a peek at this film but even if I said I was going to, I wasn't lol. I hear mixed reviews. Some says it's a dude's Twilight. Others much like myself say it's America's Battle Royal. I believe the love story was added to the film?

The love story is in the book. It's a key part to the whole story.

I haven't seen the film yet, might see it this weekend. Oh wait no, it is Easter and school holidays, I'll wait another week or two lol.

It is nothing like Twilight and I hope the rest of the films stay that way. The romance was a key aspect to the book as well, but the film didn't really portray how Katniss actually felt.
    Spoiler:
For example, in the book she talks about how she doesn't really want to kiss Peeta and that she mainly does it to stay alive. For her it was all about keeping them both alive, but in the films it seemed to me like she really was interested in Peeta romantically in the arena which is different to the book.

Apparently they're going to continue to emphasize the romance in the forthcoming films, which to be honest I'm okay with. As long as it's not the focus, because that's not what The Hunger Games is about. I'd also like to point out that Gale was not her boyfriend. They're best friends and yeah, he has feelings for her but there has never been anything romantic between them prior to certain events.

As for my opinion of the film, I loved it. I agree that some of it felt very rushed but it's hard to fit 450 pages of words into a 2 hour film, so I understand. The acting was brilliant, especially Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks and Woody Harrelson. I was disappointed to find some parts of the book cut out but at least it was nothing major to the plot. It wasn't as good as the book which was expected but overall a really good adaptation, I recommend seeing it.

No I thought she did alright it was clear that she did it to survive after all what they say in their mind in the books they can't really portray in the movie unless it is done with the actors emotions and reactions.

They have to emphasize the romance part....
    Spoiler:
When you think about it the romance (staged romance) between Peeta and Katniss is an integral part to the series, to Katniss she only does it (to start off with) to stop Snow from killing her because the Capitol are in love with 'the star crossed lovers', Peeta is genuine about it until he finds out Katniss and Haymitch were only acting it to entice sponsors and the support of the Capitol. Towards the end of the series Katniss does have true feelings towards Peeta I won't say why though mwhaha

Battle Royal is different because aren't they trying to stop the population influx.

    Where as HG,
    Spoiler:
Is in the future and the Capitol and the districts are a small pocket of whats left of the human population in North America or where ever it is, and the Capitol take advantage, so they can live a luxurious life they fence off and restrict these 12/13 districts and get them to work for the Capitol producing all they need but giving nothing in return, or very little at the least.

    Re: Hunger Games

I really liked the Hunger Games movie. I was also kinda surprised at how much it kept to the book,I mean yeah some parts were cut out..but overall it really kept to the book(which I highly recommend reading). The only thing I didn't really like was the camera moving like crazy during the arena/battle scenes (anybody else feel the same or am I just weird? ). The acting was a whole lot better than what I expected and overall a good movie. Haven't seen it? Go see it!

It didn't worry me to much it was kind of like being a contestant in the arena with them or seeing it from the view \, I mean your vision isn't going to stay 100% still or accurate while running or fighting.

    Re: Hunger Games

I saw this today! I l didn't love it, but i did like it. Now be warned, I'm not good with explanations and 'reviews', but I'll try.

It could have been so much more... The acting seemed a bit iffy and meh. But believable. It did feel quite rushed. Some parts from the book were missed. Which I understand, it went for like 2 hours and 22 minutes. I would've have preferred for it to be a bit longer, if it meant they included everything.

I really LOVED the part when Katniss shot the apple. That was gold!

I liked how in some parts you felt like you were there. Like when Katniss blew up the supplies, you heard the ringing in the ears. Well I felt it. And when she was hallucinating, you could kinda feel the disorientation. If that makes sense.

When the mutts made their appearance, I was like WTF whoa, haha. I jumped a little in my chair. But they didn't look like how I imagined.

The romance felt forced yes, because it was, from Katniss. But even Peeta's 'love' for her, didn't seem believable. I didn't believe it for a second. But I know what happens down the track, so it's the start of something.

I loved the part when Katniss decorated Rue. I nearly cried. It was so beautiful and touching.

I actually imagined Clemence Posey as Katniss... I guess that's just me. Jennifer Lawrence did well though, but yeah the acting was iffy for me. But I'm not an expert so it doesn't matter.

And and I LOVED Stanley Tucci, as Caeser Flickerman.

All in all, I did enjoy this movie, despite a few flaws. I will watch the next one for sure! Sorry if that was all over the place.
