I love how this guy avoids serious, concrete questions, I have to admit he's good at distracting Joe.

What the hell? Has Microsoft lost their minds? It reminds me of a quote
"No, dig UP, stupid!"
This most likely sums up most of the microsoft critics pretty well. xbox one games.jpg
Currently Playing:
Rumor swirling on the Twitternetz right now that Microsoft may be reversing entirely some of the restrictive policies it outlined for the Xbox One, including the 24-hour online check and it preventing offline gaming.
Personally, I don't believe a word of it. But I'm skeptical by nature.
Keep in mind, this is only hearsay. I cannot find any reputable source confirming anything yet.
EDIT: Link being circulated: http://www.giantbomb.com/articles/mi...-dr/1100-4673/
EDIT2: No surprise, it's borked.
EDIT3: Haven't attached something from Tapatalk yet. Let's see if this works. NOPE! Back to the web interface.
EDIT4: **** it. I'll do it later. The link will likely work at that point. But it's on Kotaku now.
EDIT5: Major Nelson's blog (www.majornelson.com) has been updated with this info now. Seems legit.

Yep, it's official. This is how I figured things would end up after E3. Consumers are the real winners here.
It's a shame that it seems the family account system is being removed though. I liked that idea. Was hoping PS4 could have something similar.
Also this article from Joystiq.com. Has a full copy of the press release. I think. So legit. Too legit to quit (hey hey). Anyhoo...
Wuv, Yer Mom
The family account system did seem like a cool concept but all of the other hoops to jump through convinced me I'd never utilize it, anyway.
Because I wasn't going to buy it. I'm still not going to buy it.
This reversal, however, is a huge boon for consumers. If Microsoft provided a SKU that didn't require the Kinect--like, *at all*--I may have done a reversal, myself.

I believe they may still drop Kinect. And in doing so, drop the price $100.
I hope you are right. You'd think that with three operating systems on board they could handle a no-Kinect environment.
Part of me is still way skeptical on this... Like I am waiting for the catch. I don't think I've seen an about-face like this before.

I find this to be great news, they listened to fan feedback and in the end that's what really matters. Right now I'm kinda curious to see to what degree will this affect PS4 pre-orders

Smart move, saved them alot of damage. In the end, the customers are always right.
Now, back to PS vs XBox console wars. The fight will be more fair now, not that I endorse it.
I sort of like the Kinect coming with the system. I take that as being honest about what peripherals will be needed during the system's life, rather than just adding it halfway in for $150, which every company was guilty of in some capacity. Changing controller features halfway through a system's life, putting out multiple add-ons that are necessary for a good handful of games, adding entirely new motion systems, cameras, HDDs, blah blah blah... You can avoid some of them, but not all of them (unless you buy late). Paying up front sucks, but at least I won't be buying it later for 150% the cost.

That's all.
EDIT: And since I don't plan to buy the Xbox One until late 2014 at the earliest, I can avoid a lot of the headache you describe about adding new peripherals to a system during its lifespan. It may even see a price drop in that time!

They easily removed all this DRM bullshit just as easily as they announced it. Microsoft were trying to see what they could get away with. You shouldn't buy an Xbone on principle.
competition = good

As a man of principle, I agree. Mostly.
Gut feeling: it feels like the reversal was too easy. Almost like they expected the response and had this contingency plan in place to save face. I'm giving it time. Time will tell if they are genuinely moving away from this PR fiasco or if they're simply washing their hands of it by passing that hot potato DRM decision to the publishers.
That's why I'm not going to be buying it immediately. I want to see how this all plays out first. Hell, I can wait years---I'm a patient man.
Definitely. This evens the playing field somewhat. At the very least it prevents a radical shift to one side of this console seesaw. Maybe that balance will stabilize if given enough time.

Power to everyone who had a voice.
except to those who were prepared to just accept it and buy it anyway.
This is evidence that WE the consumer can dictate what WE want. Never just blindly accept and defend anything. Thank you Microsoft for finally seeing the light. I still dnt trust u bahaha.
Microsoft might pull a julia gillard on all of you who purchase the xbone.
Good for gamers pitiful for M$ they completely lied to everyone and preached how it was a must and that its the future and yaddiyadayada and now this pathetic albeit pleasant role reversal. 2 days ago they said they were going to stick to their model.
M$ as Ive always known n hated. The fact that they considered this shit in the first place is reason enough to not trust them. It's way too late M$(at least its always been the case for myself).
Oh n $100 for an inferior console games/hardware etc haaha No.
It was the future.

Your Feedback Matters
Seems legit this breaking news anyway.
At least they half owned up to their balls up and said right we value what you guys say (and we can see we're winning no god damn favours can't let those suckers over at sony get one on us) so we will give you some of what you guys/gals want

THANK GOD...
Now the shitstorm can finally cease or lighten up at least. My umbrella was showing some signs of wear and tear. But, just to fling the last turd let me say that I'd much rather have someone else in the fight. I do not like Microsoft and would like an alternative to Sony that I might actually buy...but I guess I have Nintendo. Truth is, we(gamers) were and are not a saturated market nor are we underserved(It's an actual word, you damn spellchecker). Three is a good number and we have some kick-ass choices ahead of us, no matter which almighty company we throw our dollars at. But I do want Microsoft to suffer a little or a lot for what they tried to get away with. Microsoft: Think On Your Sins.

^Agree
Just when I was jumping up n down at Microsoft leaving the industry to let Nintendo and Sony fight it out (and (continue) producing the best games on both sides) the slimy snakes just had to slither back in. This is can also easily be the worst news I've heard this year. LOL MS to me is that person u hate no matter what they do because they cant be trusted on their own. So Fk off if you were listening to us gamers you would've never had considered DRM or always connected. The fact is you saw your pre-ordered sales sucked hard, Stock prices dropping, PS4 pre-orders skyrocketing ie your wallets getting thinner and caved into change. On one hand this backpeddling is/can be seen as a definitive positive for both parties(M$ nGamers) but on the other hand there is me not buying into this "Gamers Won" nonsense because if they had been listening such policies would've never been considered. They will try something later. This is M$ we're talking bout. I dnt understand how this whole farce cannot have left a bad, bad taste in ur mouth. The arrogant bolstering about how their own policies would "benefit the consumer" only to prove that everything spewed from anyone connected to M$ for the past month was all malarkey in the end.
ffs Knowing that they had ill intentions from the start to control MY purchased good is enough for me to never give them a cent out of my wallet. I cannot believe some people are so ready to throw money at a company that, four days ago was perfectly prepared to **** you in all the ways you could be ****ed in regards to gaming and privacy. Id much sooner give $500+ to a hobo. Even they are more deserving than these pricks.
So (in my own lil nice way) I say no thank you to your BS lies and will be happily supporting Sony and Nintendo only, the 2 companies that truly do listen us gamers n have been there from the beginning.
