Thread: Nintendo Worshippers

    Long time, no talk.

    But I'm back with a wii, only LOZ:TP, wiisports and wiiplay though, and a few new DS games.
    Saving up for a few new games mainly Lost In Blue 2 and Hotel Dusk.
    And to buy some wiipoints, apart from that, not much going on.

    yeah - sorry i've been hidden away as well. honestly i've been completely distracted from my Wii for the entire month of march. i've been unhealthily enthralled by FFXI. however, i just celebrated my 23rd birthday over last weekend, and through it i obtained 3 new wii games!

    wiiplay is a blast. people poo-poo it as not having enough depth blah blah blah. ok, i'm sorry - play laser hockey with a friend for 5 minutes and tell me the game wasn't worth the $10 you paid for it. not to mention it's brought my wii remote count up to 3! horrah!

    godfather backhand edition has still not been played by me. i know, how spoiled am i? it's because i spent my combined grandparents birthday loot money on

    sonic and the secret rings. this... game... IS AWESOME. well, correction. turn on the japanese language track and turn off the music and this... game... IS AWESOME! it plays like sonic adventure done right. it captures the thrill of speed and the glory of the super sonic spin the same way the original sonic did when i was a kid. honestly, the game kind of reminds me of sonic 3 for some reason...

    too bad the music is ****ing the worst thing i've ever had to hear in my entire life, and the cut scenes are convoluted and boring as shit. SEGA could be so great if they wanted to be - all i can do is hope and pray that one day masato nakamura is once again put in charge of a complete sonic ost. le sigh, i can dream right?

    the reason i stopped playing the wii in the first place earlier this month was - for some reason - it was not connecting to my wireless network. this was horribly frustrating as i wanted to download super mario world really really really bad. i still do, in fact, as my wii still won't connect to the shopping channel. oh well, i guess if i give it more time it should work again.

    but after this haul of new games i total my wii games to a whopping 9! and with the case i made for wiisports, seeing their spines lined up is a sight that can almost inspire tears of glory.

    ok, i'll try not to disappear for so long this time. see you all later!
    (oh and geomancer - that video in your sig is awesome, but i was recently heartbroken to learn that koji kondo DID NOT do the score for zelda II. doesn't that kinda fuck your world up? i mean, my whole life i thought that the dungeon music from that game (possibly the greatest NES song of all time) was a koji kondo masterpiece. now, in this late hour i find i was horribly mistaken. hurts doesn't it?)

    Yeah, wiiplay doesn't deserve the stick it gets, seen as in England controllers are £30, it's not worth not paying an extra fiver for the minigames. Thats all they are but I don't care. It's like wiisports, if you've got 3 mates who've never used a wii before it doesn't matter, you have to remember two buttons, tops. It's better than explaining a game for ages, showing them the controls, only to have them say 'this sucks', with wiiplay, so what, just try another game.
    Plus Shooting, fishing, lazar hockey and cow racing is really addictive. Me and my brother always fight over who gets to use the nunchuck in tanks. Usually, 'pah, it's just a minigame' but even if not all of them are great, you get alot for £5.

    Good to hear some old faces are still around! Seems like the active members are getting less and less these days. I just wish I could share the Wii talk joy, it will probably be awhile before I get mine though.

    Link, Gears of War does sound sweet, one of the definite killer apps for the Xbox 360. Like I have said before, Wii is definitely my top new console to buy, but the xbox 360 would be second for me at this point, my reasons for wanting to get a PS3 are getting less and less (and there weren't many to begin with). It's lack of third party exclusives is sad, I'm really just itching for my classic Nintendo titles and my healthy dose of RPG playing, which could very well be satisfied by the rpgs on the Wii, but also Bioware and Mistwalker's rpgs on the xbox 360 (as well as titles like Eternal Sonata). Final Fantasy XIII may not even be a PS3 exclusive but that is just speculation at this time.

    Speaking of Mistwalker, I read a recent interview with Sakaguchi (that I'll have to find), and although he isn't currently developing for the Wii, it seems he has a lot of appreciation for the console stating that it's what he has most been impressed with. He hates the architecture for the PS3, and he thinks the Wii has a lot of advantages seeing as it's very easy and very cheap to develop for. He explains that without an HD setup, the visual quality between the Wii and the other two next gen consoles isn't even THAT big of a difference. Oh yeah, and when asked about what games as of late he has been impressed with: Twilight Princess of course.

    Although I have a lot of PS2 games going at this time, don't think I haven't been doing any Nintendo playing! I usually have my PS2 for single player games, and my SNES and Nintendo 64 for multiplayer. I have been playing Super Smash on a regular basis like always (Kirby ftw!), and Battle Toads & Double Dragon, Legend of the Mystical Ninja, and Battle Toads in Battle Maniacs have been in rotation when I hang out with my friend. Of course a little Perfect Dark, and now San Fransisco Rush and Rush 2: Extreme Racing USA on Nintendo 64, Rush 2049 to come soon. Has anyone else played any of the Rush titles? I always loved those games, getting the hidden keys, finding all the crazy shortcuts and insane jumps, and of course the really fun stunt course in Rush 2 (I guess there are 4 stunt courses in Rush 2049).

    That's good news about Romance of the Three Kingdoms too, I used to enjoy those games, Koei is really the master at the historical strategy game genre. Almost all of those old titles play the game though, and there are SO many of them even aside from the Romance of the Three Kingdom series. I got a little tired of them myself. I haven't played any of the newer titles on the PS2, etc though.

    WII Games of Spring 2007 I was checking this out though, a lot of cool games to look forward too. I'd say Super Paper Mario is on the top of my list out of all those games though, along with Mario Party 8 and Bust a Move Bash!.

    IWATA ONE OF TOP 30 CEOS IN THE WORLD And oh yeah, looks like Barron's financial magazine has named Satoru Iwata, Nintendo CEO one of the top 30 CEOs in the world (the list is not ranked though)

    MARIO AND SONIC TOGETHER AT LAST! OK, so it's not Smash Bros..but it looks like the two mascots are finally uniting in an Olympics game for the Wii and DS!

    THREE CHEERS FOR NINTENDO!

    From what I have heard through some review boards, the new Sonic game isn't exactly something to get wow'd about, but, then again, their worse complaint was a "terrible soundtrack". *shrugs*

    Honestly, until I manage to get a DS/Wii for myself, I don't think I am gonna be pumping much "news" out from here. Of course, that also relies on the fact that I need a job, and all that rigamarole. Ah, yay for Economics -_-;;.

    Anyways, *nods* SF: Rush! and 2 were both awesome games, and I managed to play the first on an arcade console too, aside from their 64 counterparts. They actually happen to be some of my favorite games on the 64. I especially loved the hidden trick track in that one level on the original, that is fun crap getting a Lamborghini and doing loops with the thing XD.

    Oh, and on a off Nintendo note, Gears of War is fucking sweet. Any game that polished in gameplay and graphics AND having a chainsaw on the main character's weapon= really awesome. Now, they need to somehow work it out to make it for the Wii ^^;;.

    To get on more of a "Nintendo" track for the finish of my post, since I don't think anyone liked my Disgaea rant, 4LL H41L 5MB 3 F0R3V3R!!!!111!!1!!11!!!!1111!!!!!!!

    ~TheDarkDragoon

    (P.S. CYRUS, I went looking for the game (Disgaea Hour of Darkness) like... 3 months after I wrote my "top 10" and found the game for like 29.99, but, it was one, used. Figured it didn't constitute my changing of the post, and of course, I never watched prices ^^;; )

    Edit/PPS: Is that a knock on the BoD I see in my prezzies sig ?

    Hey, I liked the Disgaea rant. And yeah I'm not sure how I got a NEW copy for 29.99, but I'm pumped about it and the game has finally arrived.

    And i've heard a few bad things about the new Sonic game on the Wii, but overall It seems like this may be the best sonic game in years, and probably his best 3D incarnation. A bit of a return to the series roots, and a much different experience than the other new Sonic games on the PS3 and Xbox 360. IF i was getting a Wii soon, I think it too would be one my top games to get. Along with others you mentioned Link, like WarioWare, Twilight Princess, and of course Super Paper Mario, Mario Party 8, and Bust a Move Bash when they are released.

    Yeah all those Rush games were a lot of fun, and definitely in arcades too! Yeah that hidden track in the original was a lot of fun, I believe it was in the Alacatraz level, inside this mountain or something. Good times, good times. I've never played Rush 2049, but I heard it's the best in the series (and the only one with four player support). I have to say that I didn't like Rush's cousin game of sorts, Cruisin USA.

    And damn, is the boot first in the sky land? Man it's been forever. I know it is at a few parts of the game, I thought for sure it was the big world but it's been awhile. I'm going to have to pickup Mario Allstars and gave it a playthrough. I definitely know where you are talking about though, Sky Land is one of my favorite worlds I'd say.

    Q&A Sega, Nintendo on the first Sonic-Mario Game So awesome, some more tidbits on the Mario/Sonic game for the Wii and DS. Seems like the two companies are pumped about it. Two bitter rivals are now in love as they explain. And it sounds like this might just be the beginning for the two companies working together, can we please see Sonic in the next Smash Bros?

    MARIO AND SONIC'S SECRET DEVELOPER This article is really interesting as well. It's only rumor, but the game is said to be developed by Tose, a company which has contributed to more than 1,000 games since 1979, often not seeing any credit for the game though. In all my time of gaming, I had never heard of the company so I did some research and found this 1up article about the company that was pretty informative. It's crazy to see how many big name companies and series they have worked on.

    I just got my first order of Nintendo Power, and you know what the first thing I noticed was?

Luminous Arc is a traditional isometric-view strategy RPG in which you'll take control of a group of warriors that's (that have) been trained since childhood to combat the witch menace. In addition to laying down the hurt with a cast of stunningly designed warriors via Grid-oriented, turn-based combat, you'll get to strengthen bonds between characters based on actions you take on the battlefield(Fire Emblem anyone?), create new weapons and equipment(COOL!), and engage in dialog-driven adventure sequences, all the while to the tunes of composer Yasunori Mitsuda (of Chrono Trigger fame(DOUBLE COOL!)) play in the background. Throw in a full touch-driven control option and multiplayer gameplay (over both local wireless and Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection), you could have a game as bright as its name indicates. NOW, I dunno about any of you, but dayum, that game sounds sweeeetttt. I mean, full touch control in a Strategy RPG? I've been asking for that since the DS came out! THANK you, and, the multiplayer and the rest of it isn't too shabby either. I think I am going to get a DS JUST for this. You know, aside from the horrible grammar of the person who wrote the above article.

    Greetings fellow Nintendo Worshippers!

    A lot of good Nintendo related news all around I see. Definitely a lot of good news for the DS on the horizon, Luminous Arc sounds great, the world needs more good strategy rpgs! In addition to what you two have mentioned, I noticed that Link mentioned this elsewhere but Hoshigami Remix, an updated version of the PS1 strategy rpg is slated to be released on the DS summer 2007 by Aksys Games. That's really good news, I have the original, it was designed by some veterans who had worked on Tactics Ogre, but the game certainly was not without flaws (infact it had a bit too many flaws). One thing would be it's annoying difficulty at times, but with all the work and additions they are putting into the new version, I wouldn't really argue with Akibo Shieh, President of Aksys Games, who said:
    "The multitude of new additions and gameplay enhancements make this the definitive version of Hoshigami and is sure to secure its place among the best tactical RPG games ever created."
    So three cheers for all the new DS games on the horizon! But we can't forget about the Wii either. The sequel to Nights, entitled Nights: Journey of Dreams has been officially announced by Sega to be in development for the Wii. That's certainly something to look forward to. Loads of new VC titles too like you mentioned Link, Starfox 64 was recently released as well.

    Not much Nintendo related gaming going on in my life as now, but some. I recently got Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time, Spiderman and Venom: Maximum Carnage, and X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse for my SNES so I've been playing those some. I have to say that in all my experience of TMNT games, Turtles in Time has to be my all time favorite. What do other people think though? I actually heard the new GBA TMNT game is really good.

    As for your question of favorite GBA games Link, I don't have a GBA so I haven't played many games only a small few through *cough*cough* emulation *cough*cough*. I would have to say that Golden Sun is probably one of my favorite games on the system. Being a huge Shining Force fan, I have always greatly admired the developers at Camelot, and they really worked their magic on this title. Having a bit of an old school side to it, the game offers a lengthy quest, an engaging storyline, a likable cast of characters, and fun battles. Everything that makes up a great RPG i'd say, and to top it off, the graphics are beautiful and the sound is amazing for a handheld console. I also really liked Golden Sun: The Lost Age (obviously),Megaman Zero, and all of the Castlevania titles on the GBA.

    Looks like people are liking the Wii.

    w00tiez!

    Hoshigami Remix, huh? I actually didn't get introduced into the Tactical RPG until either Disgaea or Fire Emblem, not sure which one broke me in, as they were both really great . If you want hard though, and this is whenever you get a Wii or whatever, play Fire Emblem, Path of Radiance.... that is the toughest of the newer Fire Emblem games I've played. But, I may have to check this Remix for myself, since I missed out on the first.

    Nights... I missed out on that one when it came out too... I r such a neewwbbbbb ><!!!! Nights looked like such a great game too... Oh well, I will hopefully get this version.

    As for the SNES stuff, now your talkin' MY language. Maximum Carnage is possibly my favorite Spiderman game of all time, it was pretty fun, I remember spending hours on it finding extra continues and stuff Personally, some of my favorite TMNT games were the ones for the NES, the original and the sequel namely, they were both fun and something I grew up on. X-Men- Mutant Apocalypse, I think I remember that game, along with Wolverine: Adamantium Fury I think was the name.

    Finally *COUGH* WHY haven't you gotten a GBA or DS yet >.< Bwar, some of the best RPG's are on those consoles, Fire Emblem+The Sacred Stones, Both Golden Sun's, Tales of Phantasia, and the Shining Soul games >.<!!! You are definitely missing out, though, I think you've played a bulk of those through *cough* emulation... Meh, I do pay for games when I can though...

    Oh well, speaking of old games, I think I am gonna start trying to remember old games I played when I was a kid and see if anyone else played them.
    First up: Bionic Commando!

    Hey sorry I have been missing for a while. I finally got a job and it is sucking my life away. However I did also pick up a copy of the original Paper Mario for the N64 and it has made me very happy again. I am always amazed at how fun many old games are even though they did not have the processing speed or graphics of the new systems. Man I enjoy saving stars and beating up dragon men and turtles. I guess that all I really have to say is go Nintendo.

    Yes, hooray for old schooling and more importantly nintendo indeed.

    And yes, let us welcome Dragoon Nick! But yeah, as FDL stated, a brief introduction would be nice, especially letting us know your top 5 nintendo games.

    Yeah I haven't played much of the Prince of Persia games, the original I didn't finish and I don't own any of the new games though I've been considering getting into them some. Rival Swords certainly does look cool, a remake of twin thrones updated with new controls to support the wii mote.

    I swear though, the great Nintendo related news never stops (as does the bad news for Sony, like Ken Kutaragi leaving). First off, it may be old news to some, but Nintendo recently acquired Monolith Soft. Having just finishing the Xenosaga trilogy, I have to say that is great news. Having proven themselves with Xenosaga and Baiten Kaitos, I'm looking forward to what rpg goodness they will bring to the Wii. I know right now they are working on Diasaster: Day of Crisis though.

    Also, 2007 is going to be a HUGE year for Nintendo in regards to games. They have already stated that 45 wii games and 79 DS games will be released this year. This includes the big name titles below for the Wii

    * Donkey Kong Taru Jet Race (DK Bongo Blast, US) - June 28, 2007
    * Wii Health Pack -- 2007
    * Disaster: Day of Crisis - 2007
    * Mario Party 8 - 2007
    * Project H.A.M.M.E.R. - 2007
    * Wii Music - 2007
    * Super Mario Galaxy - 2007
    * Super Smash Bros. Brawl - 2007
    * Battalion Wars II - 2007
    * Forever Blue - 2007
    * Mario Strikers Charged - 2007
    * Metroid Prime 3: Corruption - 2007
    * Mario and Sonic at the Olympics - 2007

    ..looks I may have to be investing in my Wii by the end of this year.

    Good news on the VC front too, the Neo-Geo has recently been added to the list of VC consoles. Also, Castlevania and Legend of the Mystical Ninja have both been added to the VC roster. Both are stellar games, and having recently acquired the original SNES cart of Legend of the Mystical Ninja, I would HIGHLY recommend it, especially for it's addictive two player co-op mode.

    ..so happy posting and gaming Nintendo Worshippers.

    There my application is complete...
    WOW, Such enthusiasm...

    Anywho, I am actually happy to see your list contains a LOT of SNES (my favorite console ever). Especially your 1, LoZ: A Link to the Past, my personal favorite in the series. I actually happen to be a fan of all the games you named, but that one stuck out at me .

    Anywho, to the rest of the posts.

    * Project H.A.M.M.E.R. - 2007
    * Super Mario Galaxy - 2007
    * Super Smash Bros. Brawl - 2007
    * Battalion Wars II - 2007
    * Metroid Prime 3: Corruption - 2007

    ALL titles I am looking forward to, hahaha. I am also looking forward to the new Fire Emblem for the Wii, and a few for the DS:

    * Luminous Arc
    * Etrian Odyssey
    * Dragon Quest IX
    * The few FF titles being developed
    * Rune Factory: A Fantasy Harvest Moon
    * Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass
    * Heros of Mana
    * Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword

    And there is probably a boatload I missed, this is really gonna be a great year in gaming for both the DS and Wii, I thinks.

    In other news, got this months Nintendo Power, and I do have to say, I am STOKED for the new Wii games, namely NiGHTS, RE: 4 and Umbrella Chronicles.

    Anyways, getting late, and I have *gasp* work tomorrow, so, I'll catch you all later

    I have been gone too long. Hello to everyone I used to know all those months ago.

    UserID I don't know what it is about Mario RPGs but they always kick total butt awesomeally is that a word, well it is now. So heck yeah I'm getting Super Paper Mario, however I heard it's no longer going to be turned based battles but instead a kind of hack and slash style. I don't know I have a feeling that could ruin it.

    Woah a Fantasy Harvest Moon DarkDragoon? Cool I recently also saw a Futuristic Harvest moon game by the name of Innocent Life on the PSP. Anyone know anything about that as I'm thinking of getting it, or even better if it is coming out on the DS.

    Okay I got Super Paper Mario and it is awesome but not anything like I thought that it would be. It is more like one of the old-skool Mario platformers than the newer paper mario games. It is really great! I love that you have puzzles to solve that are kinda like the Zelda like puzzles, old skool action and a really funny story line. Not to mention that the graphics are fun and well done.

    The coolest part is that you can switch between 2-d and 3-d to solve problems as well as using little sprite friends to move things, blow up things, hide, etc. I would recommend this game to any one that likes mario or zelda games it is real nice.

    Also I read today that they were thinking of making a kingdom hearts game for the Wii that involved Mario and friends? I will try to find the article again but has anyone else heard anything about this?

    Edit: Hey I found the article hopefully this pic of the article shows up

    That looks really cool although have to confess I havn't played KHII yet. I really enjoyed the first one though. I suppose the best thing about this idea is that it is even more absurd then FF and Disney. But as that article says about the other KH game they pulled of the strange idea incredibly well. So maybe we can expect even better from this one. I hope your party will be someone different from Donald and Goofy though.

    What about using the strap as a dog collar? Or perhaps you could use it to snare little creates such as mice and squirrels. Not to mention the many uses that people with long hair could employ. As well as wrapping birthday presents. Holding your shoes on. Hanging christmas ornaments. Handcuffing weak criminals. Keeping bagged chips fresh. Holding short peoples pants up. Party Favors. Rolling newspapers. Pegging your pants. Replacement watch straps. Cheap gold chain knock-offs. Wallet chains. Pulling out loose teeth. Lashing boat sails to the mast. Word, Ranger (seriously dude, find a name and stick with it, lmfao), I just bought my DS, and I do have to say, I am addicted to it.

    I currently owns:
    Elite Beat Agents (aka crack in game form)
    Etrian Odyssey (aka kick your ass up and down RPG)
    and... Brain Age? Yeahh, not sure why I got the last one >.>;;

    Anyways, still waiting for Rune Factory, the RPGish harvest moon (go around and beat up monsters and farming, kinda funky, but I liked the other HM games *shrugs*) Hoshigami Remix (dunno when to expect that one, hope it's worth the wait ^^) Andddd Luminous Arc (aka the most interesting DS title I've seen so far)

    Anyone else have any "this is a great game" to have me to look out for? I am gonna try to rapidly expand my DS library before they kinda go into obscurity .

    Oke I buy 27 July 2007 Pokemon Daimond because I love Pokemon games. Because the Pokemon games are RPG games. I began with Pokemon Blue Version on the Game Boy (Black and white screen). Than I love the game and I played the game 1 year. Than I stopped 3 years and I began again with mine Game Boy Color the Pokemon Gold game. And I have Pokemon Emerald on mine PC as Rom and Now I will buy Pokemon Daimond soon than Pokemon Emerald on mine Nintendo DS.

    Ok...ok...*Calms down*.....i am so Wii-ed up right now that i'm gonna burst into tears...joy tears. Yup...i finaly found a Nintendo Wii after months of searching and the sweetest thing about it is that...well....IT FAOKING ROCKS! With Wii Sports where i somehow hit home runs on specific two batter intervals...lol, have fun with bowling, freaking awesome tennis and even boxing and golf. I still haven't played Wii Play though because Super Paper Mario is the hottest RPG, side scroller sex of a game i've ever played! I just love the innovation and i can't wait for the remake of the remake (of the remake?) of resident evil 1!

    Man I wish I had 150 posts so I could join this club. I am all about Nintendo. I own 5 classic NES systems and one top-loader with a library of about 170 different titles. I still play a lot of them. I also own many, many games for the SNES as well. I've been a loyal fan since I got my first NES on my 4th birthday. That was 21 years ago.

    It's a Wii world! It seems that the Wii is outselling the PS3. I really thought that this article was a good read. It is nice to see Nintendo heading back to the top.

    Wii Continues to Shine as PS3 Sales Slide Further
    By Ed Oswald, BetaNews
    May 18, 2007, 3:13 PM

    For the fourth month in a row, the Nintendo Wii outsold its competitors, even showing impressive strength at a time that is traditionally one of the slower periods for video game sales.

    Nintendo sold some 360,000 units of the $249 USD next-generation console in April, up 39 percent from the previous month and its highest monthly sales total since January, retail data from research firm NPD Group shows.

    Nintendo said that it is doing all it can to keep up with demand, and continues to manufacture consoles at a rapid clip. Some of the monthly increase could be due to better supplies at retail, although no reasoning was given.

    On the flip side, Sony's PlayStation 3 again showed slowing sales, falling 37 percent to only 82,000 consoles sold during the month. A lack of first-party titles and compelling new games are being blamed for the console's weakness.

    Microsoft's Xbox 360 was also off 13 percent for the month, selling 174,000 units, however the company said it saw evidence that the release of the HDMI-equipped Xbox 360 Elite helped to soften the typical seasonal decline.

    Since January, sales have fallen only 17 percent for the Wii, while the Xbox 360 has fallen some 41 percent and the PS3 67 percent. The Wii's sales stability has allowed Nintendo to gain quickly on market leading Microsoft and pull further ahead of Sony.

    Xbox 360 accounts for about 59 percent of the installed next-generation console user base, followed by 27 percent for Nintendo and 14 percent for Sony.

    The best-selling games were all from Nintendo: DS titles "Pokemon Diamond" and "Pokemon Pearl" took the top spots, followed by "Super Paper Mario" and "Wii Play" for the Wii console.

    I'm sorry to say this, but I think my Wii was a waste of money and I wish I got a 360. I say this because more than half of the wii games (even some of the best titles) are half-baked in every department. An example would be LoZ Twilight Princess, with the controls you had to wiggle the Wii-mote to mimic the action of swinging a sword and I found it very disappointing that it actually worked worse to swing the wii-mote (like the actual action) than to wiggle it like an idiot. I found many of the wii controls to be more of a nuisance than a real atraction, which is also dissappointing because the controls are all the wii has to exploit (the thing has the graphical capabilities of a Gamecube). Not only were the Wii controls porly devised, but the dam sensor bar is soooooo picky about where you stand, you always have to be "goldilocks distance" from the tv. Really I wish I could go back in time and get something else because this stupid system was so hard to work with, the only really good game for it was Warioware Smooth Moves and it only lasted about 3 hours (yes, I still only own 2 wii games, and yes I still havn't beat "the amazing game of the year" LoZ Twilight Princess).
