What if we are a big fan of Nintendo but much prefer Sony over it? Or Microsoft?

I'm so totally in on this. I've been on the Nintendo bandwagon since the NES days, and there is yet to be any system that, in my eyes, can compare to the NES and SNES. Back in those days, Nintendo was a God in the gaming industry. Since then, with the loss of major RPGs, I've purchased more from Sony due to the mass quantity of RPGs produced on the Playstations. But you know, I'm so totally getting a Wii as soon as I am able to!

To recap: Old Skool Nintendo pwns all!
OLD SKOOL - A positive appellation referring to when things weren't flashy but empty of substance, were done by hard work, didn't pander to the lowest common denominator, and required real skill. Labour-saving devices, shortcuts that reduce quality and quitting before the task is done are not characteristics of "old skool."

In reference to computer games, refers to a game that had substantial playability without flashy graphics or eye candy. Old skool gamers appreciate difficult maneuvers, careful planning, and scorched earth policies.

In reference to role-playing games, old skool refers to games that tested players' wits, could kill off careless characters, and required dedication and inner strength to play. Old skool games didn't pander to the ideas that everyone is created equal, that all options are open to all races, that the markets were somehow free, and that a quasi-medieval society could have near 100% literacy.

    See also classic.

Representing the Old Skool ways since 1984.

As long as you are a fan of Nintendo you can join. This club will only look at the world of Nintendo but you can compare Nintendo to Sony or Microsoft and why you like them better.

In fact that is a interesting question why do you like the other two better? I can see liking Playstation better now that most of the FF titles (and many other great game titles) have jumped to their console, but I myself don't like Microsoft and feel that Halo is it's saving grace. I still prefer Nintendo by far because I feel that they are often the most innovative video game company and as a console company they still are able to create many of my favorite games. I mean they must be doing something right to have held on in a highly competitve market for over twenty years. What do you think?

    Also Psiko you are in.

Well, here we go! We have a club!

I mean they must be doing something right to have held on in a highly competitve market for over twenty years. What do you think?
Yeah...It seems to me that Myamota-sama has single handedly kept Nintendo afloat. The Gamecube, while a perfectly good system, didn't do too well. May have had something to do with the lack of games for it. It pretty much just had the usual standby's; Zeld, Mario, and the like. It really didn't have much else to encourage one to buy it.

But now, it seems that Nintendo just might reclaim a dominant position in the console wars. I think Sony may very well have blown it with the PS3. Who is gonna pay six-hundred bucks for a game console? Well me, but that's not the point! When Christmas comes aropund and the parents are shopping for a game console, which one do you think they'll buy? The $600 PS3, the $300 360, or the one-hundred semod dollar Wii? You guessed it. The Wii.

Of the three consoles the Wii will be my first aquisition. I mean come on, it's cheepest, it'll {supposedly} have Nintendo's whole backlog, that new controller, as well as Zelda and Mario. The 360 has Halo 3. The PS3, has a $600 price tag, FF{I assume so anyway...}, and MGS4.

This could be one of the all time greatest comebacks.

I definatly agree with that. I think the biggest mistake that Nintendo made was to release the N64 as a cartridge based system, when everyone else was going to CD. I understand that the had their reasons but it was that decision that made a number of the game producers and game players jump to Sony. That seems to have carried over into the gamecube generation, people were just use to buying the PSX and liked their games so many stuck to it.

This also seems very likely to me. I think that the PS3 has made a mistake by creating their console with blue-ray technology and driving the prices sky high (I mean come on $600, I'd rather buy a desktop computer.) My guess is that many people will buy the Wii at 250$ or the Xbox 360 which just dropped to 300$. I myself am for sure going with the Wii because nintendo makes the best games in my mind.

Here's a question what are your favorite Nintendo games (both games by nintendo and games on a nintendo system)? I really enjoy the old school games such as Kid Icarus, Super mario 3, FFIV, and pretty much any zelda game.

I prefer those cartridges, as loads of my old PS games don't work, they freeze after a few minor scratches, but apart from needing a few blows all my N64 games still work.

Well LOZ is my favourite game series, with most of it's games rating in my top 10 and 20, I love the Metroid series (duh) and am still suprised they never took off in Japan, I still rate Pokemon quite highly.
And Mario games like 64 and Sunshine I love, I still like 2-d ones, but they're just too easy nowadays.
And Tetris, you know the creator only chose Nintendo over Sony but they were not bothered about profits, and treated him better than Sony did.

How in the world did I forget metroid! Those games are sweet. I remeber the first time I beat the original Metroid on the NES and was like no way Samus is a girl (I was shocked).

I also forgot the castlvania series they were awsome. I still enjoy playing many of the old ones.

    Long live passwords.

I honestly never thought Metroid would work in 3-D, but Metroid Prime 1 and 2 are two of the best games on the GC, with their sweet, sweet boss battles.
And Hunters is brilliant on the DS, especially the wifi element.

I don't think Max is bothered about post counts but add more to your posts, and what you like about Nintendo, give a valid reason for wanting to join.
ie, favourite console, your best games, and discuss it.
You like Metroid, well what do you like about it, why is it good.

It's true post counts are fine (I am a friend of the Spam thread) However if the posts are too short then they are real boring to read! I am fine with any topic that has to remotly do with nintendo. Metroid has a lot to do with nintendo seeing as how it is a game created by the Nintendo Corp. I am also okay with talking about games that appear on the nintendo, nintendo console, directions nintendo might be taking, nintendo memories, etc. As long as it somehow has to do with nintedno I say lets talk about it.

For example you could ask "what was your favorite FF on the NES or SNES" or you could talk about how Nintendo made your childhood better, or anything like that. If in your mind it has to do with the greatness of nintendo (if you want to talk about how Nintendo is not great I am going to need a real long explanation and I will argue with you until the end of time) you can post here just make it at least interesting and long enough to be worth our time.

    Thanx

Also thanks Samus for watching the thread, I think you are real great. Also by the way did you make your sig? cause it's awsome! Do you do freelance work for ummmmm........an unnamed club or some such.

Well I would like to join this club. I'am a long time fan of the Nintendo Games since SNES. My favorite is the LoZ Series. It was a great series and I got into it pretty quickly. It got me into the Nintendo games really. Most of all of the Classic Nintendo Games I liked(I wasn't really into RPG games at that time though ). Metroid is another favorite of mine. From the old versions to new. They were always challenging to me, especially now the Metroid Prime and Prime 2 games(I don't have a DS so I have yet to play Hunters). I would always get lost and wouldn't know where to go and the boss battles are some of my favorite.
Also, the greatest of all Multiplayer game (In my opinion of course) is from Nintendo also, Super Smash Bros. It has most of the classic all-star characters in it and I enjoyed it much. It's replay value to me was never-ending. It also surpirsed me a bit that Snake will be in the SSBB for the Wii

Well, Zelda certainly takes the cake for me. Ocarina of Time is easily one of the greatest games ever made. And despite my apprehension at the new look, Windwaker was very good. I await Twilight Princess with great anticipation.

One also can't discount the greatness that is mario. Mario is one of the reasons I scoured a half-dozen antique stores, {yes, antique stores} looking for a working NES. Found one too.

There is also this one game, "Beyond Good & Evil" I'm not sure but I think it only came out on the GC. It's one of the best games I've ever played. Sadly, it didn't do very well. It was supposedly going to be the first part of a trilogy, but the poor sales put a nix on that. This is why I swear undying hatred of anyone who doesn't buy this game. Go, pick up a copy, NOW! You won't be disappointed.

    ,
and no Ragnatoad did it for me, and I'm sure he'll do one for us.
I may(read will) steal your current one though

And SSB is in my opinion the greatest multi player on the Gc and the 2ns greatest on the N64, Golden Eye just pips it.

I'm also wondering if it's wise to put in Snake, but zero suit Samus, Pit and metaknight look wicked, so do the special attcks.

Hey welcome omega! Speaking of SSBB for the Wii did anyone else here anything about kid icarus being in it? I think I saw a picture of him in one of the demo pictures. I think that would be excellent. I still wonder why there was never a kid icarus II?

  19. #19
He's a confirmed character in it, but the game didn't prove popular enough for a sequel.
    http://www.smashbros.com/en/characte...ra2/index.html
I think Nintendo's being stingy with information about characters.
That's a really good site though, character info, the trailer, and 'A Theme With Emotion' which you can download.
I really like that song, short though it may be.

In the trailer, it's shows Nintendogs, I wonder if and how they'll get incorparated.

Wow that is a cool web site! Who knew that they could put samus in a game without her power suit. That will be crazy to get use to samus not being an orangish redish color. Also perhaps the Nintendogs have taken lessons from the dogs on Resident Evil (like biting peoples heads and stuff) because then they would be great characters to use. I always freak out when those dogs in the first Resident Evil come jumping through those glass windows.

I also never had any idea that the kid icarus guys name was pit? For some stupid reason I always thought that his name was kid Icarus (I guess it's kind of like the band Pink Floyd where no one is named Pink or Floyd.)

I don't like the way she looks though.
I imagine she'll be quicker, but have less power, hopefully they won't take away all of her long range attacks.
And Snake, they say he'll use just use explosives, which kinda sucks but is better than...http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=197.

I really don't think Snake fits into the dynamics of the game.

I have to admit that comic made me LOL (poor mario) Still I'll tell you why I think that they have included Samus without her suit and Snake. It's the almighty dollar (I can't blame them I'd do it for money.)

My thinking behind this is that Nintendo feels that the game will sale better if they include a tough girl character. Perhaps girls are getting sick of the cutesy Nintendo girls and they are looking for a girl that can kick butt. Of course Nintendo always had the kick butt girl but she was covered up in armor.

Also snake is their because people will buy the new SSB just because they like metal gear solid. Also he is another tough looking character and Nintendo is trying to toughen up their image (make it more adult.)

I could be wrong in my thinking however anyother ideas?

Yeah, but Nintendo should know by now, people will still buy the game and loads of people will especially for wireless.
No ones really bothered about the kiddy image, on many occasions my mum or dad have walked into my room and I'm shouting at the screen whilst beating Peach to death with Pikachu.
Millions of people still play Pokemon including myself, but they aren't trying to butch it up.
I hope they don't go too far and ruin the game, zero suit samus is ok, but Snake's a step too far. And I do fear it's because of money. I just hope they don't sell out too much.

Anyone have any idea why they changed the name too the Wii? I have to admit that it does sound a little corny. I mean I'm starting to get use to it and it is easier to say, but what the heck does it mean?

My guess is that maybe they wanted a name that stood out? Still even though Wii does stand out does it stand out in a good way?

I think they should have gone with the Nintendo "Wicked" that would have been sweet becasue then you could tell people that the Nintendo Wicked is Wicked fun.

I prefered the 'Revolution' but wii is still ok, I can't remember what the wi part means, but the the double i, signifies luck, I think. Or somethingalong those lines.

I know that the original word Nintendo roughly translated means "leave luck to heaven" or "in heaven's hands." So it is interesting that they would pick a name that also means something! Still I do think that Wii just like Nintendo will quickly become a household word.

Why they changed it to Wii? I'm certain I saw that on G4...can't remember exactly...I think it was purely a ploy to get free advertising. The name makes people go wtf? so they tell other people about it so they can go wtf? and they tell more people, and they all end up looking up the Wii to see wtf is up with it. Bingo bango boom, free advertising.

Well that seems to make sense to me. I mean everytime I have told someone that I plan to buy the Wii there is always a 10 minute converstation on why it is called the wii. Afterwards I'm pretty sure that there is no forgeting that it is called the Wii.

I really hope however that Nintendo starts picking up somemore of the titles that it use to be known for such as resident evil, Final Fantasy, etc. That would be awsome!
