    Homework Thread

Okay, this is the first time i believe that an idea like this has actually been carried out. In this thread, members of TFF can post their questions about school/college/university subjects and regular members of the uiversity will answer them for you as best we can.

This is just an example question:

Sierra: How many planets are there in the solar system?

    Then i will post,

    Lionhart: There are nine planets.

So, basically, if you have any questions we will answer them.

So far, there is only me and Tifa Leonhart who are lecturers/teachers and who will answer your questions.

If you wish to become a teacher then PM me and tell me what subjects you excel at.

At the moment me and Tifa Leonhart will answer Maths, English and Science questions.

Also, Sierra, i would like it very much if this thread was made sticky as it will be in the best interests of the members of TFF.

    Later.

I think this is a very good idea personally. There are a lot of very wise and intelligent members,it could be used for homework help and other things.Even if you're just curious about something, you could ask here.Excellent Lionhart. This thread is stuck.

Erm, good idea Lionhart.I think I'll be able to help a bit since I've graduated from high school and I'm on holiday till Feb. next year. So, I'm kinda free.Maybe I can teach Biology or Science, but not Physics please.Me suxx in that subject=P.If Math, I don't really know how to teach ppl in Math, probably cuz it needs more explaination. So, if you need my help Lionhart, just pm me.

To sticky or not to sticky...

Yes, this is a good idea. It will help a lot of members out who would happen to have questions on particular subjects. Although I question it's sticky status. If it's going to be popular, enough people replying to it would give it the same effect as a sticky.

I can help with a wide range of things. I'm a freshmen in college, majoring in Comp Sci as of now. I'm thinking of switching to English, since that's my strongest subject area. I know tons about history, not much in science. I did get a 3 on my AP Biology exam, though. I remember quite a lot about Physics. If you have any questions, I'd be glad to help. PM me, IM me, or whatever.

Me being a mech engineering student, I would be able to answer many science and math questions. I am a peer tutor in real life, so I already have experience helping others with homework.

Great! The thread has started up ^_^ Okay, I can help in a couple of things, which Ill list...

Math: I know most Algebra (Im thinking so at least like binomials, subtracting them, etc etc etc), some Geometry (I know Pythagorean, triangles, area, perimiter, but I have a little trouble in circles so I may not be able to help there), basic math, possibly some calculus, basic SAT math, and thats all I can remember at this point.

English: I write stories and such, I know basic gramatical formatting (whatever its called), etc etc can help on punctuations, the basic stuff.

Science: I didnt mention it in my "Job Application", but I can kinda help with this stuff. I did a little bit of Newton last year, and Im doing Periodic Table right now so I should be able to help with that ^_^

[By the way, please bear with me... I will try to help, but remember, Im younger than most of you. Even so, that doesnt mean Im stupid. Ill look forward to helping! ^_^]

((And I think its just easier having it stickied, so it doesnt matter either way, and its safer so it wont sink down into Mass Prune or something as easily ))

This is a good idea. I'm a freshman in college, majoring in chemistry, minoring in math and philosophy, so I can offer people help on a variety of subjects. Stickying it would probably be a good idea, and if it dies it could always be "un-stickied".

Freshman in College. Completed AP Physics, Calculus and Biology. Got 4's on the AP Tests of Calc and Bio. 3 on Physics.

Physics and Bio: Got the science department award. Got the higest scores on my Physics teachers tests.

Math: Everything more or less, up to and including Integration.

Anything math or science related: I'd probably be a go-to-guy. Maybe history, and interperetation of litereature, but I doubt that.

kickass...you followed through with it. well, i know i'll probably be poppin up in here once in awhile. as far my so-called "studies"...im still a mere junior in HS so i may not be "intelligent" enough for some.

    Math:
-all kinds of algebra...basic though, since i took it awhile ago.
    -i'm in pre calc now...

    Science:
    -basic science
    -chem
    -bio
    -currently in physics

    English
    -pretty good at it

    History
-it's evil, but i'm not too bad with it

    Pyschology
    -in it now

i've done a buncha other shit too...but i figure i'd throw it up there...mind you...all these classes are honors (pyschology is AP) bye!

Well,i'm in grade 7.I'm awesome in science, geography, language arts, french and history, and I suck in social studies and math.I'll be able to help a few people here,I say.

Oh and,on a totally unrelated topic,I love your radiohead avatar Meg^_^

Ok. I am a Freshman in High School. So many of you are in College/University! Anyway. I am really really good in Science and Math. I suck major ass in History, prob cuz I don't do the Homework. English I'm ok. German I can only help with the Basics. I can speak fluent french so I can help anyone in that subject. So ya!

has anyone actually asked a question?
    apart from this one!
I'm exelant at most physics questions (up to A Level)

    now
q- what were the main causes of the Amritzar massacre in the punjab, India. In 1913?

I'm a senior in HS, scheduled to graduate in June - I can answer pretty much any question you have for anything up to senior year in HS. My math skills are a little bad, but not enough to prevent me from helping with some math skills.

As for asking questions, that'll probably start once everyone's back in school next month. I think we should create a "Homework" forum for this very purpose, with sections under it for various subjects, like Science, English, Literature, etc.

I think it would be a GREAT idea to provide this kind of service on the TFF boards.

    Just my 2 cents.

Im so glad someone finally did an idea like this. I wanted something like this at the other forum i went to but one of the admins there thinks it's a bad idea, why I dont know but yet he let some hyper girl have a nature forum -.-; oh wells. Anyway, I'm a sophomore in college and Im pretty good at math although expec to find me asking Calc questions starting January 21 lol =p

ok I need a hand with some stuff in History (I believe MoogleMeG was the history specialist)

The Siege towers were developed to give protection to the soldiers that were previously using Scaling Ladders. Scaling ladders had hooks on them to grip onto the battlement. The idea was to climb the ladder before the enemy inside could unhook it. The soldiers on a scaling ladder had no protection before the Siege towers.

The advantages were that the Soldier had protection. They were built near the castle walls. The Soldiers filled in any ditches that were in the way and then dragged the seige tower to the castle wall.

    What were the disadvantages?

Also would it be possible to get me a good picture of a Gun Platform castle that were made after the Motton Baileys. I need to make a good model of one thats very accurate so would it be ok to get me a good one and give me ideas how to make one?

(Oh yeah and my specialist subjects are Maths, Social Studies and English)

Maybe I'm just thinking outloud here but one disadvantage would be if the enemy were to light the seige tower on fire, then you would have a whole bunch of men trapped inside about to meet a fiery doom. Seems like a pretty big problem to me.

(My strong subjects are Final Fantasy Games and Things having to do with Archaeology)

Seems everyone wants to help and nobody has any questions. Well, I'll join the first category: I have a bachelors degree in physics and math, so I'll gladly try to answer questions about the subjects...

Since no one is asking questions. I'll just ask one to make sure of something.

Q: If you get energy , and you use the opposite of that energy against it , would they both cancel out?

Well, yes, but I'm not sure you really know what you mean when using the term 'opposite energy'. The only place where you have NEGATIVE energy is in the potential energy description of forces. F.ex. a body in the presence of a gravitational field has a potential energy of zero when infinitely far from the object generating the field and a negative value when closer to it, thus representing the attraction. The kinetic energy of the body however is always positive, and in that sense it may have zero energy alltogether.

In regards to that energy question, it is true to an extent, although not quite as simple as "energy is canceled by opposite energy", due to 1) the different types of energy and 2) the first law of thermodynamics (conservation of energy). For example, in mechanics, if you exhert two equal yet opposite forces (meaning equal magnitude and opposite direction) they will cancel eachother out, leaving the object stationary, although the energy exherted doesn't just "cancel out", but is usually converted to heat. Then you have wave energy, in which two waves will "cancel", in a sense, if a peak on one wave was in the same position as a trough on the other wave, and both waves had the same amplitude. But once again the energy wouldn't just be "canceled", but rather would simply convert to another form. These are the two simplest examples, and although there are other cases which could fall under this (reaction pathways, free energy calculations, etc), I won't go into them since it gets a little more complicated.

Wrong! If forces cancel out no energy is exchanged! In order to change energy the forces have to do Work, and since Work equals Force times Distance travelled (inner vector product to be exact), this is zero if the forces cancel out! And in the case of Wave interference the energy is still there in the same form as it always was, namely kinetical energy!

or does anyone know science stuff?
have you done that experiment where you react sodium thiosulphate with hydrochloric acid?
you've got to time the reacion?
ne one got a write up of it?
