Thread: Game Progress (No Spoilers)

  1. #91
Whoa!, it took me two nights to completely walk out the sandsea area and finally I was able to get to the king's tomb.
That wall gave me a hell of a startle, now that is a wall.
Also, my party got nearly killed by an elemental, all thanks to Vossler, I escaped with only one member barely alive, sheesh!, those flans in the caverns are pretty tough, too, especially since they didn't give me time to figure their weakness out.

    Spoiler:
I loved Balthier's explanation as to why Fran went bersek in the ship, he does all this quirky comments with a straight face, I love that.

And, when I got back in Rabanastre, I took out that T-Rex with my first summon, which I found to be really nicely done.

I'm at level 20; I like to have even levels in my party, so I switch characters frequently.
As to the weapons, I've switched to fitting whatever strongest weapon is available to either a character that has that license or the weakest character available.

    Current Progress:

    Vaan-20
    Baltheir-19
    Fran-19
    Basch-19
    Ashe-19
    Penelo-18

    Clan rank: Rear Gaurd

    Playtime: around 24 hours

Im trying to keep my characters all at the same level so no one gets behind. I may find a use for those characters latter in the game.

I just got to the jungle and Im now off to mines to find Myrn or whoever.

The last hunt I did was Croakadile I beat him at a suprisingly low level, so im pretty happy with that.

Lol that Rex killed my when I was a level one so I did the same thing. Revenge is sweet.
    Omnislash = 15 hits, 15 X 9999 = 149985

    Lion Heart Including Renzokuken = 27 hits, 27 X 9999 = 269973

    Lion Heart WITHOUT Renzokuken = 17 hits, 17 X 9999 = 169983
Lionheart is better then Omni-Slash. PERIOD.

Just made it thru the Henne Mines. Going to return to get a clan hunt done AND do some money making and maybe find some treasure. That place sure is great for leveling up, that's for sure. I managed to get enough loot there the first time to upgrade my team to (what i thought) was the best weapons and armor available to me though i noticed i was wrong when visiting Jahara. Oh well, my team is significantly upgraded none the less.

Congrats for beating the game Pattern!

Right now i just finished returning from an excursion thru the henne mines. Managed to level up my active team to Lv. 29 and get about 50k worth of loot, defeated Ixrad, and got my rank up to headhunter. Returned to Jahara and went crazy with my money fully upgrading my active team's weapons and armors to the highest available as well as getting a lot of healing items. Now Vaan, Bash, Ashe, and Penelo all have 2 quickenings. Going to return to the mines to level up my team members i don't use (Balthier, Fran, and Penelo) who are really behind everyone else. Once i am done with that, going to go fight the Elder Wyrm.

You got that right, I showed him!.

Right now I'm at Fran's village, damn, these girls are rude!.
    And no Viera guys?.

I'm at level 21 or 22 and dead broke and with nothing left to sell.

Just blew about 25,000 gil on some much needed equipment, spells, and such. Defeated Belias the Gigas last night easily. In Giza Plains(Rainy Season) right now, trying to get more exp and money for better equipment. Vaan is level 19 and the rest of my characters are either 18 or 17. I'm trying to even them all out. All my characters have one quickening now too and a lot on their license grids that haven't been available in shops yet. I'm still waiting for Curaga and even just Fira, Watera, etc. Also trying a bit with the hunts. I'm still a Rearguard.

Right now i just fought my boss battle in Mt. Omisace after getting my second esper.
    Spoiler:
God and i didn't think the esper fight with belias would any easier but mattheu was a cakewalk. As was the judge! All i had to do was unleash 2 back to back 7 hit combo quickenings and he was completely destroyed. I couldn't believe that whole event happened though

Now i'm off to Archades..i will say the storyline is really picking up right now.

I pwned the hell out of Tiamat, then at the Elder Wyrm boss I had an epic battle that lasted over 10 minutes. It ended with Vaan and Baltheir attacking, both about to die because they had the status effect Sap on them. I barely won, but it was a satisifying victory.

    My progress:

    Vaan-23
    Baltheir-22
    Fran-21
    Basch-20
    Ashe-21
    Penelo-19

    Playtime: Around 27 hours

At the moment I am at Mt. Omisace, but Im going to go farm for gil, and level up considering how low of a level I am for this point in the game. I mean come on some of you where higher then me when you went through the Tomb of Raithwell.
    Omnislash = 15 hits, 15 X 9999 = 149985

    Lion Heart Including Renzokuken = 27 hits, 27 X 9999 = 269973

Haha yea that elder wyrm was a beyotch! I thought he was gonna be another Tiamat but i was wrong. The only problem i had was that i went into the battle without any kind of status healing items, etc. My level was certainly high enough though.

I might do a little leveling up though..i did a lot before going to where you are, though unfortunately i think i leveled too much because everything was ridiculously easy including all the bosses so i wouldn't go too crazy. I was on about 29-30 at that point.

Right now before going to Archades i am doing as many hunts as possible seeing that i have like..a million on my plate right now, including rank IIIs, IVs, and Vs. I amazingly beat that white mouse thing though i didn't think i was a high enough level. It was really pure luck and a lot of healing items. All those malboros followed into battle so i let loose a 9 hit quickening combo followed by a 10 hit one and that got rid of all the malboros and weakened the white mouse enough. Then i could just focus my attacks on him and slowly drain his hp. That waterga attack was annoying though. Also i got the weathervayne which i'm not sure when i'll use it. Also a "dusty letter" from that kid in lowtown..i'm gonna have to see what that is.

I just defeated Tiamat and went into Omisace (damn these names!) and got a bit of story developement that was very much apreciated.

    Spoiler:
Aw, poor Fran!, her homeland looks like Lothlorien and she can't go back to it!
And Cid?, hahaha, that can't be Cid!, he did surprise me because I was sure I knew how Cid was going lo look like, there is something fishy there, but then again Larsa is fishy.

Tiamat gave me serious trouble, I had to fight him three times, before I gave up and teletransported back to Rabanstre to level up, get better weapons, defense, magick, etc.
I managed to travel a bit and ended up in God forsaken places sometimes, and other times, re-apearing in places that made me think "Well, what do you know, so here is where that road takes you to?".
Yup, exploration is a fine thing in this game.

I think I'll take a rest tonight, because I do nothing but dream that I'm exploring intricate dungeons when asleep and it's getting a bit old.

Just started the game today, took it around to my mates house to let him check it out for a bit... got used to the game while i was there but didn't take my memory card.

Got home about an hour ago...

So far done the first two marks and got the 2nd rank, Hedge Knight i believe. Got 1268 clan points.

Vaan is my only character so far and he's only level 4 ; ;, highest chain was about 22 on the wolves around the starter city.

My only beef with the game so far is how long it takes to get going, i'm still in the process of getting the game going XD. It was the same with FF7 though, all that midgar shit and then the game really got going =D.

  16. #106
Still getting those clan hunts done before going to archades. Managed to get my clan level up to Brave Champion though i still have 3 more hunts i want to do. I'm trying to get all the rank III and IVs done (and maybe a few Vs if i'm able to). I was doing good against the trickster until i had too much interference to handle including an ice elemental so i reloaded. Gonna try that later. Also finally layed rest to that first demon wall with ease, and got the demonsbane.

I finally had time to do some playing and I got all the way through the Tomb of Raithwell. I beat the shit out of both Demon Walls at level 20 by making use of all six of my characters. It pays to keep them all leveled and upgraded to their max. And damn does Demonsbane make a difference at this level. My damage on my main melee tripled with this thing. 200-250 no more... 750+ on average. One-shotting flans anyone? The only thing I could say whenever I killed something in there was "DAAAAAMMNN! O.o"

After the Tomb I cleared up all the hunts I can do at my level. I then had fun getting a Moogle drunk in Bujerba and made 14k gil in the process. Seriously... this has got to be the most priceless thing I have ever seen in a FF game so far. I was rolling when the poor fellow started hallucinating. If you haven't done this quest, you should check it out. You have to beat the Tomb first though... but come on... a drunk Moogle. You gotta see it. Unfortunately it won't let you get Ashe drunk. Yes I know... its heartbreaking. I would've loved to have seen that.

Haha no way! I never did that..i guess i'm gonna have to return to Bujerba and check that out. Definitely sounds hilarious.

Anywayz im calling it a night. Fought thru the jungle forever trying to find the vorpal bunny hunt. Basically, this is by far the most annoying hunt i have ever embarked on (not hard, just annoying). This enemy is not hard at all, i manage to finally find it in the southern part so i'm like hmm, how hard can a bunny be? I unleash all the mist quickenings i can and he gets down to a sliver of life. Great right, i can easily finish him off? Well god that son of a is SO FAST, so immediately he runs away and i of course follow along. In the proccess of trying to catch up with him an almost endless supply of dark skeletons appear and start raping my team. What am i do to i ask myself, keep going for the bunny or stop to try and kill these guys. Well after a hard fought battle i kill the group and meet back up with the bunny. Well, wouldn't you know that his HP is full again, i'm basically out of MP, and suddenly even more skeleton warriors are appearing.

WOW... im sorry but i couldnt help but laugh at that. i can just imagine your reaction when you almost beat it... and thgen you ran after it... then go bombarded but lots of skeletens.... and then chased it again and you were back where you started. haha that is a little funny...

I am just before heading through the sandsea. i tried it once but i didnt have enought time so i had to turn it off. its a LONG ways but oh well. i believe all my characters are at about level 15 or so i think. but not too sure.. i really have to level up some more... i just gotta find the right place...

Just got through Bur-Omisace and the Tomb. I overlevelled so much to beat the Elder Wyrm, all the bosses since then are a joke. I can sit there and let the Gambits do it. I am supposed to go to the Laboratory next, but I want to do some quests.

The White Mouse is tough. Wow.

All characters are Level 31. I dont own the newest equipment because it is too expensive.

Haha that's ok i was laughing myself even though i was pretty pissed that i couldn't get him. Some of the enemy AI in this game is so good, the enemies are actually really smart sometimes. All that thing did was run away from me though, it was really annoying. And really the best place for where you are is probably the sandseas..that's where i did some leveling up at that point. I just went back and forth from one side to the other. Managed to level up like 4 levels that way. From what i rememeber i was like lv 18 or 19 after doing it.

I did the exact same thing..and afterwards in getting a lot of hunts/looting done i made it even worse. I am almost at the laboratory (it's a pretty long journey) and my team is like 5 levels ahead of yours. The enemies will get harder around where i am but i still feel like i'm definitely overlevelled. All the bosses have been a piece of cake. It's definitely a good time to get some hunts done, i managed to get my clank rank up 3 ranks doing lots of hunts.

Right now I am on my way to archades, going thru the sochern cavern. Just beat the uh..let's just say vegetable party hunt which was hilarious and a lot of fun. Managed to upgrade my weapons and armor A LOT. Finally switched Vaan from poles to ninja swords and he's kicking ass with those. I'm making him my thief/ninja kinda guy with light armor, and specializing in daggers/poles/ninja swords. Basch i'm making my axe/hammer, katanas, and great swords guy and completely heavy armor. Ashe is my one handed sword/shield fighter. has a mix of heavy and mystic armor. Managed to do a lot of leveling up/looting in the salikawood thanks to those pumpkin heads.

I'm currently on the Dreadnought, currently about LV 12, but since that Judge handed his ass to me I'm going to try to build up my level to 15.

The only thing I'm not liking about the Liscense system is that you have to kind of experiement to see what kind of bonuses you can get. You might have to learn a group of spells to get that extra HP bonus or some such. Although that's a really minor gripe, as I still like it far more than the Sphere grid in X, which was pretty linear. And in X you had to get quite a ways through the game before you could start mixing each other's abilities in stats (like having a strong Yuna, or Magic-saavy Tidus). While in XII you can pretty much start straight away. Have Vaan as gun toting badass or Penelo a Heavy armor wearing, heavy sword dualing warrior.

BTW how do quickenings work, I got one for Ashe and tried it against the boss but it seems like it needed a certain button press of some sort. I want to know how to optimize it for maximum damage.

Check the help thread. I had the same problem when I was at the beginning of the game. If you only have one quickening right now, you have no button pressing to worry about. Once you do you can link quickenings, but you have to do it quickly before time runs out, the highest i've been able to get so far is 13, though i've heard of people getting much more. Definitely check out the help thread though.

Wow and i thought i was overlevelled! You are REALLY high for where you are in the game, things will certainly be very easy in times to come but i guess atleast you will be prepared. God i haven't even found what accessory the golden bracelet uses so i havent even been able to equip it.

Anywayz, just finished off the boss in the Feywood and deciding to call it a night because i've been losing too much sleep lately over this game. 12:00 AM is early for me and this is a good place to stop because i really don't feeling fighting off a lot more enemies at the moment.

    My game progress:

Vaan and rest of party at level 7. In the tunnels when Basch first joins your party as a guest. He's terrible at fighting with his fists, BTW.

Just finished that section myself, my levels are a little higher, mostly because I actually went around and discovered the whole Sandsea, caverns and all. Although just before I went to bed, I had a good look at how I was developing everyone.

Vaan Lv 19: Basic White Magic spells, Light Armor, Shield&Sword, going to keep him my all around support character.

Ashe Lv 21: Most White Magic spells (some Green Magic), Heavy Armor, Shield&Sword, going to keep her as a Strong Fighter with Powerful White Magic. Also set up a gambit to constaly cast Protect on the party. Also has the Ancient Sword which randomly casts Break. Also has a Quickening, I think I've gotten the hang of it.

Panelo Lv 19: Has the widest selection of White, Green, Arcane and Black Magic, Light/Mystic Armor, Dagger&Shield. Assassain's Dagger for quick attacks and random Instant KOs.

Basch Lv 20: Basic White Magic, Heavy Armor, Spear, has a Quickening, just my main muscle character.

Balthear Lv 17: Has taken a back seat for most of the Sandsea section so far. Basic White Magic, Light/Heavy Armor, Guns. Like Itsdakid, just they stay back and shoot from a distance type.

Fran Lv 17: Same as Balthear. Extensive Magic like Panelo, Light/Mystic Armor, Bow&Arrow. My secondary Magic User. although, I guess I'm still at a part of the game where offensive magic just isn't all that necessary yet (except those few Speartounges in the Sandsea area). When I do need it though, I'm definetely pulling out Fran

If anyone,e specially those further in the game have any suggestions for party management, let me know.

My only advice to you is though you are kinda early in the game, work to get a better variety in terms of weapon and armor. It's gonna make it a lot harder if you have people using the same weapon, not only for the balance of your team, but because quickenings will be really annoying to get.

If anyone,e specially those further in the game have any suggestions for party management, let me know
My only suggestion is to get a good balance. Before even leveling up and using the license board, i kinda decided on what i would concentrate on with every character before hand. It helps to know where you are going, to have focus when you are using the license board, instead of just randomly leveling up stuff. Variety is good, not only to have a good balance, but because of quickenings for one, and also because from what i am to believe, there is only one of each ultimate weapon so i want everyone to be able to have a different one which is why i don't really have any two people specializing in the same weapon. I think us old schoolers have the advantage here because we know a lot more about having balance in parties, and how important it is for everyone to have a different role. In games like VIII, you could junction anything to anyone and have them be the same, it didn't even matter what character you used. Of course you COULD level up everything for everyone and maybe by the end of the game i will have that going on, but obviously that just means more grinding and leveling up than what's neccesary. I mean you could probably get by the game having everyone equip heavy armor and swords but it's foolish and not practical. Everyone of course has different team combinations (and maybe yours will be completely different) but mine thus far has gone like this and has worked well:

Vaan - My Thief/Ninja like character. Uses only light armor, and weapons wise, uses daggers, poles, and ninja swords. Also can use healing magic, backup healer in my active party behind Ashe
Ashe - My Paladin like character. Great healer, uses mainly white magic and some time/green. Unlike Vaan though, who is my backup healer, i equip her with mystic armor mostly though sometimes a mixture of mystic and heavy. Don't let mystic armor fool you, defense wise it's no worse than heavy for the most part, the difference is that heavy armor has strength and vitality increase bonuses, and mystic has magic resist and magic power bonuses. Look at it this way, with Ashe having the mystic armor equipped as well as the magic potency bonuses, her cura heals about twice the HP as Vaan's does. She is also is a good attacker, sticking with one handed swords and shields, and rods as well.
Basch - my complete tank, kind of a samurai/knight/beserker. Doesn't have any magic so i've been able to equip him with all the HP/Strength bonuses possible as well as great armor and weapons. He only uses heavy armor, and weapons wise, he specializes in mostly in two handed weapons like katanas/great swords but if I want him with a shield i also use hammers/axes which are very powerful. A lot of the time i put him into beserk mode and let him wipe out enemies while vaan and ashe concentrate on keeping his health up.

Those three are my active party and i really haven't had to use anyone else besides them, though in very rare occassions. My mistake is that the rest of my team members are severly underleveled compared to the top three, but i can always go back and level them up which i might do soon.

Penelo - My main black/archane magic mage, as well as minor healing. Kind of the flip of Ashe. She uses mystic armor as well, and weapons wise, uses spears and staves for two handed and maces for one handed. The only time i really have found black magic neccesary is on certain bosses, like ones that are weak to certain elementals. That is the only time i use her, for instance against a fire elemental boss, i would throw in Penelo and have her constantly spam a water spell until she is out of MP. As Andromeda pointed out to me though, offensive magic does become more useful at the end of the game
Fran - Very long range fighter, kind of archer like with a good amount of spells as well. She only uses bows and crossbows, though if i ever had to equip her with a melee weapon she uses spears. Uses light/mystic armor. Kind of a equal mixture of black/white/green magic. Still haven't leveled up her as much though so i mite bring her in a different direction
Balthier - Another long range fighter. Uses guns and hand bombs for the most part. He's my main techy in my group, he's got a lot of the helpful technics and well as good support spells. Uses light armor.

Anywayz, right now i'm in Girevegan, eh i think i spelled that wrong. Just beat the first boss there and making my way through this..dungeon or labrynth or whatever you would call it. The enemies here and in the Feywood seem like a big step up in difficulty compared to what i was fighting before so i'm kinda glad i overlevelled a little bit. The behemoths are beyotches!
