Thread: Game Progress (No Spoilers)

Haven't made a whole lot of progress today..didn't have much time to play. I'm stil just getting as many clan hunts done as possible. Basically today all i did was explore every nook and cranny of the zertinian caverns. Jesus, i never realized how big these caverns truely were! Look at this way, there are six entrances to this place! One from the ozmone plains, one from the westersand, two from the nam-yensa sandsea, and two from the ogir-yensa sandsea. So finally i found the secret way of sorts to this "Belito" hunt that Montblanc himself assigns you. God i should have known i was fooled!

A quick question of sorts (Maybe Andromeda's never ending wisdom will be able to help me with this ), not a help question but to anyone this far or further a question that i have been pondering (minor spoiler, not exactly story related)
    Spoiler:
So you fight Ba'Gamnan and his crew. Somewhat of a tough fight for me right now. I'm just wondering if you had killed off any of his posse back in the Lhussu mines would they still be with him here?

If that is true that would make this battle significantly easier. Montblanc better pay me bank for this hunt.

    Anywayz

    Yesterday night I
    Spoiler:
    defeated Cid in Draklor.

However, I just realized I'm dreadfully behind in hunts >.< So today, I have been doing them in addition to getting a coupla espers.

    Today I...
    -Vanquished Rocktoise. Which is a Rank I hunt, hence how I'm dreadfully behind @w@;;;
-Vanquished Cluckatrice. Also a Rank I fight, but I have a good excuse this time. Whenever I zone into Giza Plains, it's always raining. When I checked today, it was finally dry :D
-Obtained Adrammelech. It was super annoying >.< Penelo, my white mage, was pretty much spamming Curaja over and over. In desperation, I used a quickening when he was at 50% HP. I somehow managed to get a long chain and it killed him.
-Vanquished Gil Snapper. Constant Disable was annoying, but I managed.
-Obtained Zalera. Doing the Barheim Key quest took a decent chunk of my time. During the battle, I used a quickening at the start to get rid of the undead thingies. All went well until he started spamming "Kill" at 50% hp. I got tired of using Phoenix Downs, so I switched off my party and finished him with a quickening.

Levels as of now: 43 for everyone :D

P.S. Golden Amulets are nuts. I have so much LP, I don't know what to do with it all >.<

I don't know about the Belito hunt. Since I ran away the first time, I really cannot say if killing them at the beginning affects the fight or not. It was not much of an issue for me though since I was quite over leveled for the fight. Though my guess would be that it probably would not count since they would just call it as being knocked out rather than killed most likely. I do not know if Square wanted or bothered to track something like that. Considering its a RPG, a lot of things you do should be kills but they are just KOs.

Well I'm about to head into Mt Bur Omace. Man this snowy area sure is one of the most beautiul areas of the game IMHO. Went around leveling up and doing some poaching with good ol' Balthier, was able to get all the best weapons and armor for characters, I'm pretty much set as far as equipping goes.

Vaan Lv 25: Sword and Shield, Light Armor. Vaan has the highest HP in the party, but he's not as much of a tank as Basch. He's still my all around "not sure what he is" member. I've been neglecting learning most Technicks because I've been saving my Money for Weapons, Armor, and Magic, but I definetely plan to get into it now that I'm pretty well caught up for now. Learning things like Traveler and Shades of Black should balance him out quite nicely.

Balthier Lv 25: Crossbows and Guns, Light/Heavy Mixture. Balthier is my long range Attacker/Item healer. He has pretty much all the item lores learned (I'm having the non-magic characters following suit). He's also my main poacher. I also plan on getting him into more Technicks eventually like Vaan to kind of "balance him out".

Fran Lv 26 Bows and Mystic armor. Fran is my "Red Mage with a Bow" She has strong attack power like Vaan and Ashe, but has a good combination of Black, Arcane, Green and White Magic.

Basch Lv 27 Hammers and shields (although he has learned Spears) and heavy armor. My tank. High HP, strongest Attack Power, Tough as nails. Like Vaan and Balthier I'm having him go straight to Technics as he's pretty much mastered all the Augments he needs.

Ashe Lv 26 Sword and Shield and Mystic Armor. My Fighter mage or Paladin. Pretty much the same stats as Vaan only with more Magic power and focusing on White, Time and Green Magic.

Penelo lv 25 Rods/Staves and Mystic Armor. My strongest Magic user focusing most on Black and Arcane Magic. Came in REAL handy against the Elder Wyrm. As I said in an earlier post I'm thinking of having her get into Katanas since they're supposedly based off Magic Power, but that's a long way off.

Oh and I just noticed this post:

Haven't got anywhere really, just travelling to the laboratories, but, the fighting gets a bit sparce on Phon Coast and I ran out of money buying goodies over there, so I picked up more hunts.
    *sigh*
I'm beginning to have issues with the story pace, I want more of it, more often.

I'm at an even level 36 now.

  6. #156
Awesome, thanx for the help Andromeda. Not really that important of thing, just one of those: "What If" questions. I'm just thinking with even or or two gone how much easier it would be fighting them one on one isn't hard at all. You're right though, it is an RPG, i was probably overthinking it a bit.

And i forgot to give props for that tactics picture cain, but nice work! I knew that stuff sounded familiar. I'm a real hardcore tactics fan (being a side series game i don't put in my top few but definitely enjoyed more so than any of the normal ps titles, it's story to me is one of the best, if not the very best. i think xii follows nicely in it's tradition) but i didn't notice that tactics stuff, the carrot thing either for that matter.

So i'm not entirely spamming, i'm going to give up on the belitos hunt for now and try something else. Want to get my rank up from risbreaker atleast one rank before moving on with the story.

As of last night I reached Girevegan and defeated a boss there.

I then took another storyline break to do more hunts. >.> I can't help it lol, they are fun fights. ^^ Let's see...did the Barheim Key sidequest, that was neat. Once I did that I hunted down the Bloodwing, he didn't give me any trouble. I continued exploring out of boredom and came across an esper. He was a pain in the ass but I nailed him with like 6 rounds of Quickenings lol, that killed him off quick. (The battle had a time limit.) So I welcomed Zelera to the team.

I also killed the Antlion, that battle was insane. Then I did the Mindflayer, easy as pie. Oh, and the Marilith. I didn't go deeper in the caverns this time though, Adrammlech gave me quite the cold shoulder the first time.

I tried the Vyraal but I am way too low for it lol, barely made a dent in its hp.

    ~DragonHeart~

Update: Woooo I defeated the Lindwyrm on my first try. ^^ God that was a fun fight, Basch tanked the shit out of it. He never even died once, just kept on going. That was the most fun I've had in quite some time. ^^ SE really hit the mark with this game imo.

Well finally got the three extra hunts i needed to become a Paragon of Justice. Managed to beat the crap out of the Antlion, Vyraal, and the Overlord.

Well actually, i should say i only really beat the crap out of the first two. The overlord i barely survived, and it was only because i had gotten the bubble belt from beating the antlion before it. I didn't think he was too bad until he got critical HP and killed everyone in my party besides Basch, who had the high HP because of the bubble belt. So with one last quick move i was able to finish him off with a quickening combo using only Basch.

That Vyraal was smart though! God when i got him down to critical hp the first time, he cast immobilize on my entire party then ran away to caste haste on himself and restore his hp. What a tricky mo fo! Luckily immobilize missed ashe and i was able to catch up with him and cast dispel.

Anywayz, with all that loot money doing those hunts, plus all the money from loot i was able to upgrade my weapons and armor even more than they already were and i THOUGHT they were the highest available, little did i know that the random street vendor in Bhujerba near the mines sold a sweep pole with 81 attack! Not too shabby. Plus had some money left over for healing items.

Definitely more than prepared to continue with the story. Plus, i'm just a little sick of doing hunts for the moment, even though i could do a few more.

    EDIT:

Just made it into the Pharos at the Ridorama Cataract. Figure this will be a good place to stop for now seeing it as it seems very long. Happy to have a guest again.

I'm at the Phon Coast, on my way to some place or other. I can't remember off-hand where it is I'm supposed to go, aside from ultimately ending up in the Archadian City. Woohoo.

Basch, lvl 34, Fran lvl 33, Balthier lvl 32

Good God!, I was at the Phon Coast when my file became corrupted.
I started it all over again, I guess I'll stop updating in this thread until I'm back at where I was.
    *sigh*

The good thing is that knowing how to do everything makes everything faster and since there are no story surprises in story for me, I'll level up like a maniac, now, before I really get going, so I can advance with the story la ter as fast as I can, without having to intercede three days of leveling up in between between places.

And I thought I was in bad shape, Hildegarde!

So I'm spening a good hour and a half on the Vorpal Bunny quest I lose a couple of my party members while being ambushed by other monsters while trying to focus on the bunny (it doesn't help that I wasted a good quickening combo when it disappears and reappears fully healed) And then I FINALLY kill it. With a singly nasty coeurl left I kill and think I'm in the clear, when all of a sudden several skeletons appear out of NOWHERE and killed Vaan and Penelo leaving JUST Balthier left, but then they affected him with disable and HP Sap, I tried running but they kept poking me and eventually killed me.

Nooooo! I hated wasting all the experience and loot I must've collected. At least i know where the Bunny is now.

Yeah, those damn skeletons got me too when I was hunting the bunny. Now it's my favorite exp/lp spot at the moment though. ^^ I got Balthier from level 23 to 40 with one skeleton chain there (well, he was duoing with Basch, who was 54 at the time lol).

Anyways, did even more hunts lol. Finally defeated the Trickster, wooo! Also kill the Vyraal, Carrot, and defeated Adrammelech. I also finished the Belito hunt, it wasn't too bad. I'm now a High Guardian and I broke 1 million points hehe. ^^ Did half the "Ancient Man of Mystery" hunt but he ran away and now I have to find him again somehow. Those CSs were absolutely hilarious lol, especially when he first appeared. XD

Oh and Fran is officially my first character to complete the entire top half of the license board. I've been exploring a lot in the hopes of finding some of the rarer equipment to use but so far no luck. I've already decided more or less who I'm equipping with what so it's just a matter of finding it all.

Nice i still haven't done that Belito thing, i'm at a much lower level than you right now though unfortunately

I haven't really played at all the last two days, i'm literally at the very last point in the game. I have a bad habit of getting to the main guy of the game in games then waiting till the right time to beat it so i don't think i'm gonna pick it up for awhile. Right now i've been busy with DoD: Source and CS: Source with my friend so maybe in the the next few weeks i might pick it back up but not soon. My final party is:

Vaan Lv. 49, Basch Lv. 49, Ashe Lv. 49

I'm currently in Pharos, what a pain in the ass this area is. -_- It took me most of my playtime today just to get near the top, and I don't even know how much farther I have to go. Hopefully not much, cause this is even worse than the Shinra building in VII. >.<

I keep forgetting to post my character levels lol, so here they are:

    Basch - 59
    Ashe - 57
    Fran - 57
    Balthier - 40
    Vaan - 32
    Penelo - 30

I just finished Giruvegan and I'm on my way to see Redas right now, but I'm in Archadia right now doing hunts. I just finished the Lindwyrm hunt. My party is all at Lv. 50 and I've finally obained the Zodiac Spear from the Nechorol of Nebudis or whatever that place is called.

Well I put some more hours into it again today. I got Vaan, Ashe, and Basch up to 76 now. I also have two more Espers and 40 Marks. I have 5 more marks left to kill. I got Maximillans for them now and some better armor equipment. I still need some better swords, but I want to get the Zodiac Spear in Henne Mines sometime. I well I beat Chaos and Zalera and two optional bosses required to get to Chaos.

Chaos was a pain in the neck because it is a no attack fight, your physical attacks are disabled. So it was all magic. And well using my strongest spells delays my other guys from Curing. So I had to resort to something less annoying. 1000 Needles. Instead of the 4000 from Flare, I do 1000, but at least my Curagas are not being held back. So it took a while, plus he used Fearga, which drops my entire party's MP to zero, twice. That was not fun, but since I was using Techniques at that point it was not much of a problem. I dropped a couple Scathes on him, to kill his elemental friends.

Zalera was a little strange, but he was really easy. He had a timer going, no idea what it was going to do. I made sure not to find out, I had 2:30 out of a 5:00 timer left. So plenty of time to spare.

I have almost all of the license grid completed now. Penelo is almost at 9000 LP. Oh and my shield absorbs Darkness, so I used Darkga to heal myself for somethings. Though in serious fights, I cannot do it that much since it holds things up.

I had a rough battle against Fafnir, he took me all the way down to no MP because I used so much of it. Though I decided to try out Curaja during that fight. It is pretty much pointless having everyone else use it as I figured since it is over kill. Curaga is safer and cleaner. I have to kill Behemoth King, Diabolos, Ixion, and two other Marks still. Behemeoth King and Diabolos will be a pain since they are both Level VII Marks, like Fafnir was. I know that Ixion is either a V or VI and I think I still got a VII and VIII left. The VIII Mark is going to give me a lot of trouble I would imagine.

Well I got 6 more Espers left to find and beat up. I am a little concerned about Zodiac and Ultima, but I plan on making them mine.
Curious? There's no limits but your own imagination.

I'm now just beginning the Sochen Cave Palace. Just finished the most annoying boss (that mark you accept from the Archadian Wayfarer). Bleh.

I've got Basch equipped with the Sledgehammer (I think... whatever one that has Disable as a status effect)

    Balthier has the Six-Fluted Pole

    Fran has the Traitor's Bow

Vaan, Ashe and Penelo haven't had much equipment upgrades, I rarely use them. Once I get bored enough I suppose I'll level them up more. Waiting to find that embroidered tippet thing so I can get their double exp.

Well, I barely got my Belias as my first esper. Now I'm in Rabanastre and my Clan Rank is a Vanguard. I've already done 8 mob hunts and all my characters have 2 quickenings. I wish my memory card didn't break. I'd probably been almost done with the game by now. Anywayz though on the good side, I get to start over with a frest start.
    Here's my characters stats:
    Vaan:Lv.25
    Penelo:Lv.24
    Ashe:Lv.24
    Balthier:Lv.21
    Fran::Lv.23
    Basch: Lv.22

I'm gonna do a few more mob hunts and buy some new weapons and armor before going to the Ozmone Plains.

I finally got to the Stillshrine. My levels are 23 for everyone, cept Basch who's 24.

Quickenings make this game easy. Enemies with 70,000 or more HP make it difficult.

Currently, I'm in Rabanastre after the Barheim Passage bit. Vaan is level 9, and I currently have 3 marks done (Rogue Tomato, Thextera, and Flowering Cactoid). My highest chain is 14 (Dalmasca Westersand), and right now I'm off to find Penelo. Yep.

Has anyone in this family ever even seen a chicken?

    Wow. Just...wow.

I just completed it for the first time. ^^ And...that's all I can say lol. That special feeling I get from seeing "The End" on a Final Fantasy just can't be rivaled by any other game. And I have to say, I truly enjoyed every moment of the journey.

Of course, now that I completed the storyline, it's time to play through again for all the extra stuff haha. Yes I could use my current file, except I missed the chance to get Genji armor, so....new game! It's all good though, there's no such thing as too much Final Fantasy.

    Final Levels:
    Basch - 63
    Ashe - 57
    Fran - 57

Well I now have 11 of the 13 Espers, though the last two are going to be a bit of a pain to beat, Ultima and Zodiac. I am going around trying to finish up the last of the marks that I have. I have 41/45 marks. I killed Diabolos, who for a Rank VII mark was pathetic. I was going to hunt down Behemoth King, but I thought about trying for Ixion again. I had to go to the lighthouse and get those stupid black orbs. This time I need too many of them, so I took a break from that.

Vaan, Ashe, Basch are 79 now.

I also accidentally ran across Phoenix and easily killed him. He is apparently an Elite Mark, though there is not petition on him. I'm working towards getting some better gear. Since I have enough Espers now, I can hit the Henne Mines finally, should not be much trouble for me at this point. Though there is Zodiac in there that I'll have to avoid. But the Zodiac Spear is in there too. Maybe I can get lucky on that. I have the Masamune, though I have not used it yet.
Curious? There's no limits but your own imagination.

I was actually doing that tonight, I got two scales and got myself one Durandal so far. I still need to go back for four more scales at some point. I just set it up where I had one person with the Thief Cuffs on and I turned off all gambits, had them steal and once successful, always the first time for me. I would turn on the gambits and kill it. I managed to get two in about ten kills I think. You can steal it or get on the drop, so you double your chances with that. Also have the Monograph that improves drops from Dragons, the Dragoon Monograph I think.

My three guys are 87 now and I just got the Ashe Title, for getting an average of 50 levels for the party of six. Which is 11, 14, 14, 87, 87, 87. They also have almost everything in the license grid now. Ashe is already finished with everything, other than the Espers that I have not accounted for. And Vaan and Basch are pretty close behind in finishing things up. Everyone else has 10,000 LP sitting.

I have 44 of the 45 Marks now, 3 million Clan Points, and I have 11 of the 13 Espers. I also have the Ribbon and one of the best shields in the game, though it is pretty lame because it has Poison, Sap and Slow on it which are unremovable, not even Ribbon counters it like I hoped, it has +90 Evade too. I'm looking into getting the Zodiac Shield and the Zodiac Spear. I spent some time in the Henne Mines leveling of the Abyssal bats in there that are giving 3k exp, turned into 6k. In two runs of about 50 kills I got over 200k exp, I know that because I leveled off of them from being at 250k. So really good leveling in there, plus I can chain them to 25 and check on the treasure chest for the Zodiac Spear. I'm 0/3 on the appearance right now, though it is a 1/10 chance of appearing. And I have 1/10 chance of it being the Spear, so yeah long road, but no reason not to level in there.

I have to go fight a Wyrm in the Sochen Palace to get the final Mark, which has 50 million HP. The Wyrm has 8.5 million HP. Not fun stuff, Behemoth King had a lot too, though he was not too bad. I would guess he easily had a million HP or more. I had to fight those stupid Mandies again that you killed in the Sochen Palace to get Behemoth King. And I swear that they level up, because I checked them once and they were 85, then the next time they were 99. And then on top of one shotting me for 9999 HP, which thankfully Vaan and Basch have about 10400 HP, they barely survive and Ashe is instantly killed. I got Scathe on them chasing them down for like 30 minutes all around the Feywood. Then all said and I done, I have to go fight a huge, powerful Mark, Behemoth King with everyone under 200 MP. Thankfully the way that Basch is built, he does not use a lot of MP and charges quickly. So I just Syphon MP off of him when he gets near full. Ashe pulls off like 400 MP from him which is crazy. That is 2/3 of his MP. Vaan I think pulls about half or so, which is a little more reasonable. But that was the way I managed to survive through the fight not needing Ethers. I actually use that strategy a lot, unless I get Fearga and then I just want to slap them.

I visited the subterran of the Phoras of Ridorana, which was fine on the first and second floor, annoying but fine. Then I'm screaming on the third floor because the stupid monsters are appearing in mass and doing high level area of effect spells and abilities, that for some stupid game design halts everything that is not simply attacking. So my curagas gets paused in queue waiting while I'm getting knocked around. And there are like 3 doing AoE and two simply attacking. So I get knocked around a lot. Plus the monsters I am fighting do not simply die. When I kill the first one, there is a good chance a second monster comes out of them like a spirit of the monster. So the fighting does not end. After getting my butt beat around, I change my strategy and solely focus on one monster. Since I can kill most of them if all three of my guys attack at once. That manages to keep the numbers down.

I am going to have to return there though, if I want two more Ribbons, since a Rare game that has them is in that Lighthouse. I have to go back to Giruvagen for Ultima sometime, and return to Henne Mines for Zodiac, who does not have a save crystal before either. That makes me none to happy.

Well other than that I have just been trying to get better equipment to go into the last stretch of major fights. After than it is all smooth sailing with Rare Games and mini-games that I don't know if I will do. I still need to level up the other party members, but since I found the Henne Mines to be awesome. I will be doing all their leveling there. I have no doubt that they will all level up to like 30 or 40 in like an hour. The only thing is that I doubt they can fight alone, so I will probably be using one main character and two and then switch the other in later. Thankfully for the 10k LP, I can basically get the entire License Grid finished for them before they even start leveling. They will be wearing Maxmillians and Deathbringers, it will be so awesome. I wish I had gotten the Genji armor, because I have been using the Masamune I got from Ixion on Ashe and liking it a lot. The fast comboing ability it has would be awesome with the Genji armor. I always wondered what the Katana's special thing was, they are like the Samurai of FFXI, high TP and skillchaining with themselves. I did watch Basch doing a 6 hit combo with a normal sword though, which is pretty funny. Basch does a lot of combos I noticed, high ones at that too.

I let Penelo to use Kanatas/ Ninja Kanatas/ Daggers
The reason for that is I using the accessory that increase her speed (+40 speed)
Ninja Kanatas/ Daggers damage based on speed and strength. If I equip Penelo with my heavy armors, she can does the most damage + combo. I always cast haste on her ==> Great in speed, damage, and combos.
All of my characters have mastered the license board..
How can you get 10000 HP???? I wants to know for getting in the pharos sub..(the monsters appear with a large #, so if they all attack at once, my party will be wipe out)

It only appears as 9999, but does exceed that. It is a little strange, but they only allow for the four numbers they just do not hold you to that number. I have 10000HP because I use Bubble all the time that doubles the HP. The Subterrean you should be fine at your level and with Bubble. It can get to be a little rough, but otherwise that is enough to allow you to survive in there.

Right now I haven't had much time to play this whole week. I'm at the Still Shrine of Miriam. My character's are at level 31 and 32. I haven't gotten Mateus yet cuz I barely got there. I've already done 14 mob hunts and all my character's already have their quickenings.

Well it's been a while but I've mostly been doing quests.

Ashe, Penelo and Basch Lv 38
Vaan, Bathier, and Fran Lv 40

I also have All thee Quickenings for all characters. Also doing one hunt in the Barheim Passage (the Vampyr I think) I got a chance to take on Zalera. MAN! What a freaky Esper. I got really lucky though, I broke my all time record with a 16 Hit Quickening Combo (I do believe as you get all the characters' abilities it gets much easier to combo than say just one or two people with Lv1 Quickenings). I caused 45,000 Points of damage taking down his HP by about 2/3s. From there on, I mostly used 1000 Needles which I use a lot of the "Immune from damage" or Flying monsters (for my characters like Vaan and Basch who have short range melee weapons, I don't have Telekinesis yet)

I've had a couple of REAL close calls though namely with the Gil Snapper and Trickster though, those were tough!

Story-wise, I've just met Reddas and I'm currently heading toward the Feywood (but checking out the plains north of that Port town that starts with a B) Killed a couple of those damn Wyrms on the field there. They're tough, though getting a good Quickening Combo in helps quite a bit, they also have some good things to steal.
