If you're speaking of the save file bug where file sizes over 5mb run the risk of crashing then this is what I know.
As I understand the bug, the way the system in Skyrim works is that literally records the state and position of everything you interact with in the world. If something changes from the default then it writers that to the save file. So all of the doors you open and leave open are written, all of the objects you leave around your house are written. That sort of information adds up in a large game world.
So the best course to keep your file save down is to close doors and not leave any junk around. You'll probably want to keep as much as you can in chests, cabinets, etc to reduce things it has to keep track of. I would also guess that you probably want to limit the amount of npcs you kill since it would probably track that as well.
