Back to the topic at hand, I have just made a couple more changes to the user reputation system. Now, instead of having to rep 20 other users before you can rep the same person again, you only have to rep 15. I know it's still a fairly large number, but I think it's more appropriate than 20, and still high enough to prevent rep-whoring.
I have also altered the display settings so that you can see the last TEN comments left for you, rather than the last five. I kept getting questions about that, so I figured I would go ahead and do it. I won't set the number any higher than that, though.

If a User doesn't have a high enough reputation to give or remove any points from you, then their rating just shows up as a grey box and it doesn't change your Rep Points rating, but...
If that same User then gets a high enough reputation themself to start to change other people's reputation with their ratings - do the ratings they've given you previously then make a difference?
In other words: Does the rating system work retrospectively when a user become able to influence other's ratings, and points they've given that didn't do anything to your rep score then start to change your rep score now, no matter how long ago that particular rating was given?
If you don't have 200 posts, it doesn't matter how high your reputation is -- you won't be able to actually affect anyone's points. Conversely, if your reputation is below 10, you also cannot affect anyone's points, regardless of how long you've been here or what your power is. Yes, you do receive one point every X days, every X posts, and a couple other variables. I don't necessarily know that publicizing the full workings of the system is bright, as it may encourage more spam... but they're very high numbers, just know that.
And no, the system is NOT retroactive.

Now I'm really pissed...I try give reputation to XXXX person and it throws this message..."You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to XXXX again."
So my question is how many person I have to give rep to give rep to this XXXX person...?
Please can you answer...?
You want to buy this shirt and/or this shirt for me, don't you. They cost under 4000 Yens (~25 €). When you have bought both/either one of them (I'm 182 cm tall), contact me with PM and I will give you address where to send that packet. Thank you.

Many forums have problems with their rating system.
One forum I was in, used some kind of ...I don't know...light bulbs or potions to rate their members, in one word "it sucks".
I like the titles system, some add levels or special icons to it to make it look more fun.
I think you should really work on those titles, in my opinion the official "names"
from square-enix would be much better and give this place and the users more of a FF feeling, still improvisation never hurts anyone. You may consider making a post where people would vote for the titles, that way you wont upset anyone and get the most wanted result!
As for the rep points, oh well, lets just say that stupid people occur, its a good tradition on every forum, lets just hope they wont spoil anything with giving -100 points to a good person who tries to correct them or disagrees with their behaver. In he end we still have the moderators, if anything unfair is happening just tell about it to them and like the rules say "an investigation will be held"!

Do you see that "v-x" button in your posts? If you press that, you could give either good or bad reputation to someone.
However, you can't give reputation to yourself, I said before.
If someone gives you good reputation, then your points will increase. If you get bad reputation, then your points will decrease.
I know that I am nowhere near the number of posts needed to give rep points or comments, but how do you give them?
Yes, Moondancer freely admits that she is a n00b here and understands nothing!
you see that tick and cross? it's at the bottom left hand corner of your post (every post has one). Just click that on the person's post you want to give reputation to.Originally Posted by Moondancer

Angry Moogle, you are not completely right.
If someone wants to give reputation, he must have at list 200 posts and 10 rep points or something like that.
If someone that gives rep hasn't got all these, then he will give 0 rep points. That means that the reputation will be neither good nor bad, and the rep bars are grey. Neither red, nor green.
Excuse me for sounding like an idiot(Probably making a fool of myself.) but, what do you mean by reputation.
Well, do you see those little boxes between your gold and gifts in the posts? That's the reputation you have. The more reputation you have the more boxes are displayed. If your reputation is negative and it's uder 0 points, then the box will turn red. The more red boxes that are displayed, the less reputation you have.
If you want to know how reputation is given either it's good or bad, then just read the previous posts.
I'm just wondering if there is a way to see WHO gives you bad reputation, for i have a bit of a..well mixup or problem that i'm concerned with, though i think i know who it is.
and is there anything to do about unfairly giving somebody bad rep?

Or maybe for no reason at all, and that's called repwhoring.Originally Posted by Fishie

Yep, I can see that sort of stuff, but I'm not at liberty to disclose such information. Reputation is a private system for a reason. It allows a person to make commentary while maintaining an air of illusion.
Basically, it's private to protect the identities of those who give negative rep.
That's how the system was built and no, I can't change it. It's part of the internal vBulletin code that is built directly into the forum. It's not an add-on.

What i'm wondering is that when you say that your rep must be higher than 10 for it to have an effect on someone, what happens when your rep falls below zero? Can you still affect other peoples rep or does it have to be above 10?

It must be 10 or higher, period. If it ever hits 9 or goes lower than that, you cannot affect anyone else's reputation. When it goes back up to 10 or higher, you can affect reputation again.

My question is this: Say you get the neutral rep from someone who does not meet the rep-affecting requirements. Well, when those people reach 200 posts and 10+ rep, will that neutral rep become whatever they'd intended it? I mean, would the neutral rep then become good rep because the giver now meets the qualifications? Or would it stay as neutral rep permanantly?

I also have a MySpace so look me up.
@LS: No, it's not retrospective. If someone gave you rep and it was grey at the time, it will not turn red/green when that member meets minimum requirements for actually affecting someone's reputation.
@Rikku: Huh. Umm... let me take a look in the admin panel to make sure nothing's wrong there, and if I can't find anything, then I'll look for a solution somehow.
edit:
Well, you have 21 points now (because of another rep from someone else), and I don't see anything that would otherwise be restricting your use of the system. Have you tried it since you hit 21? If it's still not working, send me a PM and we'll try to figure it out. And by that, I mean I'll bother Fuzz about it.
All the same, let's not continue worrying about it in this thread.
