Amen, SKI, AMEN! The same here in Holland, the state is just handing out free money and then finds it's strange the economy is so f*cked up. Well, hello! If everyone is sitting on his lazy ass and nobody works for their money, you can count on the social system to collapse as well. I've never been such a fan of communism, but it shows that communism does have advantages. People should make a new government which mixes democracy with communism. Communism is very social, when democracy likes to keep things under control. The result = Social community with good policies.

    Yes. Yes? YES!

Haha, introducing communism would make people even more lazy. Because goods would be handed out by the state, often there may be a shortage of goods which means those goods are acquired on a first come first serve basis. Also, if the people only work for the "good of the country" and are not allowed to own capital which will make then rich then that kills the incentive for them to work hard. So you'll get an even larger number of people being lazy than you do now.

Well, yah! That's why communism almost completely dissappeared of the face of the planet. But I didn't say to go back to communism. They good thing about communism was that people worked. Communism on it's own isn't good, that's why it should be combined with democracy. Things shouldn't be handed out, although that's whats happening in Holland. You should work for it. And you shouldn't work just for the good of the country, you should work for yourself. That's how people came up with capitilism, you know. Communism just showed people how to treat eachother with respect, what, I think, these days isn't being done by people. It's a shame!

Indeed personal gain is a strong incentive. And the best way to motivate people to work hard to become richer than others is through the market mechanism. Unfortunately, the market is rather impersonal and tends to allow the richest to become even richer while those in lower income brackets experience an increase in wealth at a lesser rate to those in the highest income bracket (or sometimes they become poorer than before). Consequently, the government steps in to soften the more "negative" results of market behaviour, for example, handing out unemployment benefits. But handing out benefits will make certain numbers of people too lazy to work. I should think there must be an optimal level of benefits - one which won't cause privation but will highlight the rewards of paid work. The optimal amount would have to change fairly regularly according to where a country is on the business cycle and dependent upon other factors like the ease of borrowing money. But "fairly regular" changes (lets say 3 months) means income uncertainty for the lowest income households who rely on state benefits. Interesting. Well, this could get far too long and end up sending everyone here to sleep.

Uh-huh, almost had me going there. Well, like you said about the market being too impersonal and richer getting richer is right. The market itself wants to become richer. This leads to a cycle of corruption in a certain way, which is a damn shame. Things just aren't fair these days and I don't understand why nothing is being done about it. People should be raised in a good way, so that he/she understands people, that he/she can communicate with others. Communication is very, VERY important, especially these days....

I passed the exam from like a month ago btw. ^^/
It was Japanese grammar test btw.
And chavs suck....nuff said. They always annoy me when I go to England. Or you see them running around here in Amsterdam getting high on weed and feeling all proud. Meh, I always get into fights with them on holidays for some reason >_< lol.

    Peace out

Hahaha, well they always look for fights, that's true. And it's pretty fun to beat them up them But we shouldn't be that aggressive all the time. It's much better to fight virtually. Like RPBing or something. I've just started a club called the Phoenix Knights. If you're interested in RPBing, please start doing so, and join the new community!!

I don't fight chavs because I'm physically weak, mentally is another matter but when they start on me and I offer to settle it over a peaceful Sudoku, they normally kick the shit out of me...

Quite is an understatement......or am I the only one who pictures as being this funny. Then again, alcohol makes everything seem more humerous than in reality....or maybe it is funny. I don't know anymore and I have confused myself beyond proportion.

Alcohol for the win is the moral of this story in my opinion!
Chav: hey you looked at me?
    You: uhmm, yes?
    *Chav tries to hit you*
You: Let's play sudoku instead! *dies*
    Blargh?!?!

  15. #195
Otto.... you study Japanese... I guess you learn pronounciations too...

How is Sudoku meant to be pronounced... 'coz that's Japanese right? Su-Dock-OO? Soo-Doh-Coo? It's been an ongoing argument between friends for a long time.

I believe it to be Soo-Dock-Ooh

(Neo, I added you to MySpace, you only had one friend, it upset me )

  17. #197
Yeah, that's coz I only just started to use MySpace. Whe I signed up over a year ago I couldn't be bothered to add anybody.

I recently was reminded of MySpace, heard it was becoming popular and thought I'd give it a try again. I only just made said decision. Hence the lack of friends. I'm bugging people I know to sign up.

Things are just swell in here I see.

    Well, happy new year!

    Touch my mind.

  28. #208
Nolwynn, I haven't seen you for a while. Happy New Year to you too.

I'd like to take this moment to mention David Cameron's recent proposals. Distinctly non-Thatcherite and a clear attempt to force Labour left, after Blair claimed much of the 'middle ground', there doesn't seem to be much difference in the policies of the two major parties. I'm no longer sure I'd vote Conservative, but I'll have to wait for their manifesto to come out.

  29. #209
All those who request to join may join. Huzah ^_^.

Egh, politics. Screw manifestos. I don't trust them. Parties make promises which they don't keep, and so I cannot base my vote on a manifesto.
I will base my votes on how trustworthy I feel the party to be, and how nice they are. Yeah, that may sound stupid, but really, there's no point in voting somebody you can't trust, and it tore me up how labour and the tories just seemed to slag eachother off all the time.
The lib dems didn't seem to do it last time, and so I like them more. And I think I trust them more. They'll probably get my vote.

    That's if I vote, anyway.

All political parties banter with each other, but when it comes down to it policies matter. Neither Labour nor the Tories would do the opposite of what is stated on their manifesto because they'd lose the public's trust. They government doesn't succeed in all the objectives they hoped, but I do believe they try. Perhaps harder on some issues than others. When it comes down to it, I wouldn't vote of a party which seemed trustworthy but promoted policies which I was against.

Anyway, on a lighter note, the Conservatives should bring back Thatcher.
