Thread: TFF of Europe

This thread hasn't been too active recently so I will talk about my recent exploit(s):

So last weekend was the London Notting Hill Carnival and I decided to show up for a short time on the Sunday. The carnival, like all the others Notting Hill carnivals I had been to in previous years sucked. The cramped conditions make pickpocketing easy, the burger vendors along the streets sell you undercooked meat so you can throw up later in the evening and the fools who can't control their alcohol consumption level behave unacceptably in public. So, why did I go? Because I got asked by a few friends. That's it. I didn't get drunk nor did I dance or act in a carnival manner. I just don't do that sort of thing.

Some months ago I was walking along the high street in Wycombe (this one's mainly for NeoNecron) and a guy came up to me and offered me some weed. I politely declined.

    Drunk..a lot.
Cheap wine....makes you have a headache the next day. And makes you get as ****ed up to do singstar at Ps2 and play hints >.>
I did "Worms" the game....people actually guessed it when I crawled over the floor and did like I launched a bazooka.

    Gay goats suck balls!!

    Peace out
    Blargh?!?!

Last Monday. Wheatus played King Tut's. Pity I can't remeber too much of it....

Funny thing is, its the first time i've drunk at a gig. Never again, oh God, no. Kinda funny looking back tho. See the things you do in pubs when crappy support bands are playing....

Anyone have any good gig memories?

Reading 2004. I wasn't there but my friend did attend. And do you remember reading about 50 Cent getting bottled off the stage? I'm sure it would've been amusing to have been there. For those who can't remember or don't know, apparently someone threw a chair onto the stage, lots of booing started amongst the crowd and then full up bottles started getting thrown onto the stage.

It's a shame I don't think all that much of the bands that usually play at the Reading Festival.

Yeah, a camping chair to be precise. My friend Matt was there, he told me all about it.

I'd like to give one of these music festivals a try some time. I've never been to one before. I've been to 1 or 2 gigs, but that's it.

    Back. For a while. Maybe.

I went to the Download in Glasgow last year. It was a little mincy, to be honest; the Lost-fkin-Prophets were headlining, and most of the crowd was asleep.

Linkin Park were alright, strangely. The Distillers were, as per usual, outrageuosly out of tune.

But festivals are good. And 50 Cent deserved that, its good to hear!

Come on people, we should talk about the upcoming general election in Germany. So, it seems all parties are focusing on the Germany's recently faltering economy, with each side promising lower unemployment levels, especially for Eastern Germany. I read that Eastern Germany still remains more troubled (such as 20% unemployment in places) than the Western side of the country, despite being so many years after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Samurai Kenji, our resident German, should fill us in on some more details. And I'd like to know who he'd vote for.

I'd also like to talk about the EU-China talks and what should be done about the stockpile of Chinese goodss and quotas but instead I've decided to write a longer piece on protectionism and trade for later.

*hits Winter in the head* hard.

Edit: GAH, Look what I've missed:

    Quote:

The way I believe the French economy survives is through the multiplier effect. It is where the government "injects" money into the economy through public spending and this money increase demand which creates jobs and with more jobs people consume more, which in turn raises demand and the whole thing cycles round again. The value of the multiplier depends on how much 'leakage' there is, i.e. taxes, foreign imports, saving and the like. It also depends on the marginal propensity to consume. (Sorry to patronize you if you already know this, but other people here may not). Due to the high taxes required to support the welfare spending of the French government I shouldn't think any multiplier has a value larger than two. Of course, large government spending has to be paid for and high taxes would hinder the effect of the multiplier. Perhaps the nation is so used to the status quo the workers are prepared to earn money which the government then taxes a substantial portion of away. I'm not sure.

Does France run a trade surplus or deficit? I don't actually know this one.

I don't acknowledge such as thing as involutary unemployment. There is only voluntary employment, which means the market will stablize itself at full employment. By 'full' I mean the natural rate of employment. And what is the natural rate? This natural rate alters depending on the wage level. Forget about this. I like what I've typed here so it is going to stay, although it has nothing to do with what I've just said and what I'm about to say.

Britain has one of the lowest unemployment rates in Europe, according to the ILO it is only 4.7%. However, the numbers of unemployed people have been going up steadily the past six months.

Investment does not affect the wage price spiral. Lack of investment in capital can signify a lack on demand in consumer goods.

So, I take it the minimum wage is too high in Sweden? I think the minimum wage should be abolished. That way the labour market can find its own wage rate, rather than being distorted and actually creating unemployment. (Refer back to the natural rate of unemployment above.)

Economic stagnation won't necessarily be helped with high inflation. What is known as 'stagflation' in Britain during the 1970s confused a lot of people. Unemployment and inflation were rising at the same time, which shouldn't have happened. To cure economic stagflation you need to pursue supply side measures and in this way you also keep inflation under control. Another way to control inflation is through monetary policy, rather than fiscal methods. I believe as long as the money supply is controlled, inflation will be kept under control. Why? The price level is directly linked to the quantity of money.

Oh, and all currencies in the world should be floating currencies. On top of that governments around the world should not feel a need to hold reserves and try to manipulate their currency. It certainly isn't sustainable along with a few other problems it poses. It'll also rid the need of government's complaining about trade deficits. If your currency is allowed to float then any surplus or deficit is quickly eliminated. Then again, I'm sure most companies know that. They're just too worried by the "instability" that a floating currency may cause them. Oh well.
    -----

Ok, to make it short, not to kill this club. Entirely.
I major in economics, so yes, I'm quite familiar with multiplier effects, spirals, stagflation etc etc. Which, I guess, is why it bores me to no end. I don't know if you were serious with this post or not, you're a clever guy and you know it. But all you did now was to quote my books for me. Which I'm sure wasn't your intention at all. Basically I'm just having a hard time figuring you out. And I'm tired. Do you want my honest opinions or are you just burping things because you have nothing better to do?
-Investment does indirectly, through money demand, effect wage/price levels. But it's quite another story, I agree.
-It's not entirely true that you can control inflation through MS. It is to a certain point, and in theory I suppose it would be possible. Still, don't you think it's a naive conclusion?
-I reeeeeally didn't want to get into this kind of discussion. Ecnomics is a science of its own, there are so many factors to take into consideration and I have no clue where you stand knowledgewise. It's just silly.
-And please forgive me for exaggerating this. I have no patience these days. You're a good guy Winter!

And I'm going on vacation - again. Byyye!

It is quite true about the unemployment rate being staggering, even after pumping countless amounts of money and many attempts to lower it into the east. Strangely enough, the Western Germans complain about having to send so much money into "modernization" of the East, while the Ossies (as we call them in the West) complain about us having more jobs then them.

To tell you the truth, no one has access to jobs. It is a horendous problem and no one knows how to effectively solve it. That of course being the reason for the change to SPD (Social-Democratic Party of Germany) in the last elections. Now people will most likely switch to CDU (Christain Democratic Union) again in hopes to remedy the problem.

I personally think all partys are terrible in Germany and dont really think we will see a drastic change in the trend. I would vote for CDU without a doubt if their candidate was not such a stupid bitch. The SPD is also never going to get my vote because I dont like their apporach at political and economic issues. Ill probably vote for the FDP (Liberals) since they promise to create more jobs and increase wages effectively. If theyll succeed is another question.

I would like to add that we get two votes. One goes toward the partys candidate and one towards the actual party. Thats to stop the issue caused by majority votes, where the party that got the actual majority wins, disregarding that the other party's voters will have no representation even if they make up a majority of the total votes. This is the problem that rises in the British voting system.

You may want to ask Toromor for his oppinion as well since he lives in Germany as well and might have some comments to drop that I forgot. He'll probably vote for himself as dictator though, so that question may become a little pointless hehe.

Of course, talking about politics on some internet forum isn't going to change the world, let alone a country but that isn't the reason why I discuss these things. It just allows me to find out other people's viewpoints and assess my own as well as re-enforce my current perspectives by talking about it.

    Thanks for telling me this.

In Britain it is true you only get one vote in the general election and you are voting for your local Member of Parliment who represents your area in the House of Commons although often the MP you support is likely to be the political party you would want to see come to (or remain) in power anyway.

Haha, interesting edit you made back there. Inflation gets controlled by the money supply as long as you can predict the velocity. But you must know that, especially since I now know you are majoring in Economics. I suppose the velocity is something difficult to predict but as the subject bores you and everyone else here I won't say anymore about it.

    Oh crap...

I hear Neo Necron's back from his holiday in Cornwall... that sucks.
I guess we'd better update him on the conversation he's missed as he's too lazy to read through posts and catch up.

Cornwall was awesome. It's one place in Britain you're never ashamed to be in. Losts of sea and cliffs and cornish pasties and stereotypical sea captains.
It's like being in Pirates of the Carribean... only in britain.... and the pirates are british and aren't pirates, but friendly bar patrons.

Winter: don't let us stop you, go ahead and talk about anything you want. Even economics. As I said, I just didn't know whether you were for real or not. I still think it's a fascinating subject, otherwise I'd never have chosen it as my major.

Khorde, ok, I'll give you another chance. T-centralen in two weeks. Deal? I'll make you coffee.

Of course we remember you Divi, welcome back. Things are a bit slow around here nowadays, so it's good you're back with us

    Khorde, we can share?

So what's going on people? I'm following hurricane Rita's violent advance with great anxiety as I have friends in Houston. I heard from them a couple of days ago and they told me they weren't gonna seek shelter or anything, but now I can't get hold of them at all. =/ Suddenly everything became so much more real.

A hurricane hit Britain in 1987. The damage wasn't on the same scale of what we've just seen though.

Why are there so many posts after mine? Its scary :/ Its so....unfamiliar...HELP ME SOMEONE

Damnit people, Ive had alot of names.
I used to be called <B> Vadrigar, ShadowReborn, Paladin and Gray Fox.</B> But Khorde will (I hope) stick with me forever.

Okey guys i know nothing about HTML, thats why my sig sucks. I cant get my own pic either. The root of all this is my Modem, when i get ADSL (broadband) i will be able to post more and look on the net for pics and read HTMl guides, but now Im stuck. Come on really now, Ive been here for one year and check my Post Count, THATS NO ERROR, yes low.
I dont meen that I will spam when I get broadband, I will just be able to be as active as I want. So dont think I dont care for TFF, I love it and its Community. Whenever somebody leaves TFF it sucks big time, its as if a member in your family is leaving.
Yeesh, im never so serious. IM CHANGING, AND I CANT STOP IT!!!
    Help ME, PLEASE!!!

OHH yeah, congratulation. You´ve just read my whole sig, and if you havent started crying out of boredom and pain. I thank you for that.

Note:You can not sue me for any damages that my have been done to you physically or/and mentally.

    This Sig Sucks.
