Actually, if I'm not mistaken (and I'm not), you refused to participate because the tournament's restrictions forced people to use Asian characters. Your response actually seemed rather racist. It was a bad first impression I had of you because of that.Originally Posted by Slim

Of course, first impressions are merely that, so don't read too far into any of this. My point is that my opinion has changed -- that's a good thing.
In any case, I'm open to suggestions from all sides, but the ultimate theme (if there even is one, who knows?) will be up to me and Spike. We won't be able to please everyone, but all input is welcome. And don't worry... you won't be forced to be any specific ethnicity this time.
Please note the sarcasm in this post.
edit:
I realize now that this post may seem like a provocation, but trust me when I say it wasn't meant to be one. My sense of humor (or lack thereof) works in odd ways when I'm incredibly tired. I also realize that I could just as easily delete this post, but that would be like saying "hey, I never said that!" which... would be incredibly ironic, considering the nature of this post to begin with. In any case, I just wanted to clear that up before any potential problems arose. It is, quite literally, as the fine print states: a sarcastic statement.
In any case, as I also previously mentioned, any and all ideas are welcome. As for me, I've got a post scribbled out in a notebook I need to start typing. Hooray?

OH YEAH! Ok, we are both somewhat correct in this specific situation, if my memory serves me well. I believe I joined and then posted that, was inactive for an excessive amount of time, and then became more involved when it was too late for me already. I remember being slightly upset though, and I didn't mean to be racist, sorry for that impression. I just didn't want to join if that was necessary, for two separate reasons. (Perhaps, this will clear up any leftover negativity.)Originally Posted by LocoColt04

2) I'm not Asian. Don't take this the wrong way, I have no problem with people of any other race, I just feel that, if it be necessary I play as a human, I would mostly prefer to be one of my own race. It's so I can relate to the character more, and it normally leads to better writing, on my part.
Anyways, i look forward to this ToA and shall participate in it to the best of my ability.

Honestly, I'm glad you did clear that up for me. I'm not the only person who was under the impression that you were racist after that post of yours.
It's been a long time since a tournament with non-human characters has materialized around here. Perhaps that's something we can utilize here. Would it be too outrageous if one of the stipulations of the tournament was to have ONLY non-human characters? Or is that just the type of thing we need to freshen things up a bit?
Of course, if we retain the current club v. club motif, I'll probably suggest that each participant use his/her own club character, so that would actually rule out the non-human theme for some of the members. I think I'll keep it in mind in case we scrap the club v. club theme (which is looking likely, but we'll see in a couple months when full planning phases pan out).

I would recommend not making it exclusively inhuman characters. Unlike myself, many people prefer playing human characters. I would just leave it OPEN in that sense. It tends to please everyone when it's done that way. It would seem that was one of my problems with the ToA last time, character restrictions. Anyways, of course, do things how you would like to, but I'm absolutely, 100%, obligated to give you my personal opinion on anything. So feel free to ask.

Well, I like having SOME kind of theme. A tournament doesn't feel much like a tournament when it's a rag-tag group of characters tossed together and they seemingly have nothing to do with one another. I'm certainly not saying I'm against having character creation be completely open-ended, but all I need is help in thinking up a reason why.
If we can give a reason for the tournament to exist (i.e. provide a story), then anything is technically possible. The only reason I like having a theme in one aspect or another is because it helps tie all the characters together.
In a regular RPB, a participant has an array of characters to choose from, or can create another if willing to best match the environment laid out before him/her.
In a tournament, a participant has to use one character throughout the tournament, thus making some mixes and matches less feasible. It may all be fantasy, but it can be really offsetting all the same.
...and I just had a new idea. Really, all of this should be in that discussion thread in the TOA forum, so I think I'll quote our posts and then move this discussion there, if you don't mind. I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner.

If it's a tournament for the best, the top notch people, adding a theme simply makes it seem trival. Sorry, but it's not a high school dance.
If you want to do a SPECIFIC TOA, then don't say it's for the best there is, etc, as by putting a theme and making it for the top 'players', limits it and negates the whole, best part. However, I did post some ideas in the thread.
Duly noted. Also, I think you may have misinterpreted me when I said I like having a theme. Granted, the current TOA has a true theme, through and through, and the idea behind that was actually to pull a writer out of his or her element and see how well s/he could function in a potentially foreign atmosphere. I must say that I'm rather pleased with the results, but I do understand what you're saying all the same.
Tournaments prior to this one have not have a theme in that sense. Rather than the word theme, I suppose a better choice would have been common element -- something that can link the characters to one another and a potential story or reason for them to fight to begin with.
As I'm sure you've seen by now, I've flushed all of that out in the thread and it looks like the discussion is going in a positive direction. Even though I keep getting opinions from people via messengers rather than in the thread itself, at least I'm getting feedback, and that's the most important thing.
In any case, I'm off for a while, so I'm looking forward to seeing what some of the other Masters' members have to say about the new proposal. (Check the first post in that thread for a quick update as to where the important shifts in the discussion occur, to save time.)

I find it most humerous that the clubs vs. clubs TOA is not going forward on the grounds that The Masters are the only group capable of producing four champions. Well, while I'm sure to be interested in the next TOA, I'll wait until something has been finalized. I do like all the inspiration flying around, but honestly, there is such a thing as too many cooks for the soup.
Anyways, can we move the TOA discussion to the TOA thread please? Thank you.

It's obvious we are, apparently.
Why have a tournament that would merely celebrate how good we are?
Do enjoy reading that.
lmao, Apparently a 'majority' vote is 2 against 1. Looks like another ToA I'll be sitting out due to idiotic forced things. I seriously wonder if there will ever be a REAL ToA without all the petty stuff, just fights without all the stupid rules.
I need action. BAD! Perhaps a rank battle is in order? I'd like to move up from 'Newbie' or w/e my status is right now. I've been here a while ! I'm just getting bored having no battles to take part in at the moment.

Well lets go to the ranking list. Slim is a Novice and Tainted Mage is Chosen.
As Tainted Mage is two ranks ahead of Slim, no rank up could be awarded even in the event of a clear victory. A clear loss, however, would result in the loss of one rank. However, if Tainted Mage can defeat Slim, we are in mind to count that as a half rank up, meaning if Mage were to defeat another member of lower rank after a clear victory he would not have to fight someone of higher rank to rank up and would instead automatically rank up.
Slim, on the other hand, need only battle to a draw to rank up. A loss will not count against him.
If you agree to these terms, you may proceed. Would you like me to set up the battle ground, or would one of you prefer to handle it?

Well... just in checking on posts and what not. Dark One... I shall post in our battle shortly when I arrive home after work tomorrow. Other than that... rank battles eh? Sounds interesting. I'll have to look at current ranks above Mage and see what fun can be had. I'd fight ya, but... I'm trying a new standard of... Um... staying on as shortly as possible. If something were to happen to Dark One, in turn, keeping him from continuing... Than you could challenge me.
Worry not... I just need to let my eyes rest from time to time. I find going back to my roots of Tetris, Pacman, Shining Force 2 and even Zero Wing a greater relief than most. >_>
Someone set up us the bomb! heh... heh... heh... Gotta love emulators.

Technically, two people would be the majority over one person; HOWEVER, as I even noted in my posts, I had people speaking with me on messengers because they're too lazy or whatever to post in the thread. I have all the chat logs if you don't believe me. Besides, I don't know how many times I have to stress that it's all just a discussion anyway.Originally Posted by Tainted Mage
Who's to say everything won't change? I know I listed the two-character setup and the 2-1-1-2 round setup as official already, but that's pretty much the only thing that's completely decided upon. I made a point of noting right from the start that it would be impossible to please everyone. I'm doing my best to please the highest number of people, and if that happens not to include you, then I'm sorry, but you'll just have to deal with it.
What I don't understand, however, is how something that isn't to YOUR specifications automatically becomes stupid or "unreal." If you really wanted to prove your skill as a writer, you would embrace the challenge of something that isn't ideal, and show people that even though you don't like it, you can still do it. No offense to you, but it actually appears as though you're running off scared because it's foreign ground to you. I know that may not be the case, but that's certainly what it looks like on the surface.
And yes, that IS a challenge. Prove me wrong. Participate in the next tournament, and follow the rules. Show people what you're made of, rather than complaining about it.
Oh, and just for the record, there have been tournaments without all the fancy specifics and shit, and there will be more in the future. Like, say, next summer's tournament, for example. I had already planned on going back to the straight up 1v1 no restrictions style. Well... you know, RPB/TOA rules would apply, but no restrictions outside of that.

Alright... I made my post Dark. Although I do not much know of the Zelda games... v_v guessing that is where the Ikana tower reference came from?... I changed the setting from a bridge to the base of the tower. Either way... I have no idea if the "bridge" was a literal setting or just a similie or metaphor of some sort.
Oh well... post is ready, so... >_> bah!

To Shelus - Don't worry about the setting. It really shouldn't effect battle all that much. I doubt very many people gave Majora's Mask the time of day anyways.

In time. I shall only be using "Side" for the battle against Dark One. I only used Shelus in it as sort of a... intro of my own you could say. Shelus' ability will be expressed soon. I just added those cause I knew he needed a bit more in the way of defense. Now all I need is someone to Challenge Shelus... *hint*
