End of January for the stories? works for me!

    Discussion:

I listen to a variety of music, from Classical, to Acoustic Rock, to some metal, to techno, and classic rock, alternative, and some mainstream.

For instance on my mp3 player, when set on shuffle, i'm bound to hear something like

Take This Life - In Flames, I Close My Eyes(Techno Trance mix), I miss you - Blink 182, Touche - Godsmack (the Other Side acoustic EP), Soldiers of the Wasteland - Dragonforce, Sad but True- Metallica, Even Flow - Pearl Jam, and the piano version of you're not alone from FF9

I've found that over time I've become less and less of a metal fan.. I dunno what that's about, really.

I know that I started listening to all sorts of metal when I was about eleven and then death metal when I was thirteen.. I guess I'd kind of just grown out of it by fifteen. I still love metal, but I'm not going to listen to it absolutely all the time.

The album I'm listening to -right now, at the moment- is the Laced/Unlaced album by Emilie Autumn. It's entirely instrumental.. The first disc is a remake of her original classical album "On a day.." and it features a bunch of covers of other classical pieces, along with some of her own.. It's beautiful to relax to.

The next part is "Unlaced". She describes this is "Violindustrial". I don't see the industrial in it.. But okay. Alot call it Neoclassical [a contradiction of terms?]?. That's something I love alot about her.. Even in the songs where she's singing her violin says just as much as her voice. You could follow the violin through the song forgetting about the lyrics entirely and still get the tone of it..

Oh, a couple of you might recognise her from the Saw III and Saw IV soundtracks. Look for "Organ Grinder [I love this..]" and "Dead is the New Alive" [also pretty good.]

Have an unlaced. I couldn't find decent audio of this one live, sorries =(

If you like that, I'd also try typing in "Manic Depression", "Organ Grinder" and "Leech Jar".

Have her playing violin live clear as a bell.. With a faerie costume. I love this clip, I've marvelled at it over and over again. Just watch it. It's amazing o_o

Oh! I must also, like Chez, compliment Alysin's new avatar/signature set. <3. I'll rep you for it when I can.

You got me into her music Froggie. ^^ Well the "Opheliac" and "Laced/Unlaced" stuff at least. I like some of her Enchant stuff but Opheliac was better in my opinions. "306" and "I Know Where You Sleep" are my favorites. As for Unlaced, I like "Syringe" and "Leech Jar". Isn't she coming out with a new song called "4"O Clock" BTW?

As for music though, I listen to a variety of music. I'm pretty much open to any kind of music. On my MP3 player I have Madina Lake, Kottonmouth Kings, Razed In Black, Rob Zombie, Nine Inch Nails, Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, Fear Factory, Evanescence, Disturbed, Kayne West, Godsmack, Jay Z, Lacuna Coil, Behemoth, ThouShaltNot (Thanks to Sinister ), Lamb Of God, and sadly..I like listening to some country...Well, Tim McGraw at least. >.<

    ^Fear Factory is ace!

Dimmu Borgir are alright, too. I like a lot of metal, but most of it isn't known that well. I find that a lot of newer BM (black metal for those of you that don't know), can be pretty boring and repetitive. I'm not the type to take on all kinds of metal just because it's metal. I take it on because some of them manage to beat the outerline of repetitive music.

I have a severe hatred for a lot of mainstream metal because it attracts silly kids who think they're really cool, but when you ask them, they've never even heard of Nile, Korpiklaani or Amon Amarth. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but a lot of them stick to the bands that their friend recommend.

I've made a lot of nerve-racking music choices when buying CD's and hoping they'll be good ones, but I like it because I figured out what I like for myself rather than hearing everything from other people.
And you have to admit, it's kind of cool being the only people you know who's ever listen to bands that 99.9% of the rest of the world has never heard. Amazon and eBay have been good to me like that.

    Jumping randomly into the conversation....

My music? My music taste is very odd...pretty much I'll listen to almost anything. I mean, I'm not a ig fan of rap or country, but truthfully, there's a couple of each of those types loaded onto my computer. I'll give you a random sample of the songs on here:

Write You A Song - Plain White T's
Light It Up - Used For Glue
Wanted: Dead or Alive - Bon Jovi
Beat On The Brat - The Ramones
    Riot Girl - Good Charlotte
    Like a Prayer - Madonna (I know, I know..)
Goodbye My Lover - James Blunt
Californication - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Random Song From Harry Potter Soundtrack
Sound of Pulling Heaven Down - Blue October
Chop Suey - System of a Down
    Warning - Green Day
    Glory - Sugar Ray
Random song from High School Musical Soundtrack
Let The Bodies Hit The Floor - Drowning Pool

    Etc, Etc....very random I know...
"I hope you realize you look so pretty through these bleeding eyes...

<p>Aren't you a pretty little Paradox?"

You've got a pretty good mix of stuff there, Lovely. Commercial as anything, but it's pretty good. I quite like a few you have in there like The Ramones, Plain White T's, Bon Jovi, James Blunt, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and I don't mind Drowing Pool, either.

Fishie - Yeah! It's out! It's almost.. Think what would happen if you chucked Gothic Lolita and Let the Record Show together. It's ... Odd, but highly likable once you get used to it. I'm glad you like Laced/Unlaced. It's a great album. And I -LOVE- Enchant.. I wish she'd do a little more like that. I think it's just as good as Opheliac, although not as hard-edged. It's more soft and drifty and ethereal.. But it's still very Emilie. Bring back Enchant! ><.

Chez Daja - I don't really have a hate for mainstream metal... It just severely annoys me that it keeps getting put in the "emo" category. Well, it does here anyway. There was a hardcore/metal/death metal concert around here recently and posters were put up all over the school.. In about three days everybody was calling it "The emo concert." Ugh. Annoying as anything.

But yeah, I think there is something kinda nice about knowing you're one of the few people that knows who somebody is.. It almost annoys me a little when artists go so mainstream.. But it's still kinda "Good for them." I felt that way a little when Emilie Autumn.. Well, she didn't go mainstream, but she became so popular so fast. I miss being one of the 300 people in the world that had a copy of "On a Day" and "Your Sugar Sits Untouched."

I only heard one of their songs called "S.O.B" I didn't understand what they were saying either. The beginning of the song reminded me of The Nightmare Before Christmas though. >< But I think they're Japanese are something if I recall.

And Sinister, I love Razed In Black!!! First song I heard was "Nightmare" and its been one of my favorite songs of all time. "Come Back To Me" and "Damaged Inc." are a few of my other favorites. I'm hoping they make a new album. They're really good.

Well I looked at my favourite playlist, and I noticed that it's mostly rock, hard rock and grunge ^^;.

Anyway, apart from OCRemix game tracks, original sound tracks from games such as Dirge of Cerberus, Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2 and a few other lovely things I also have tracks from:

    deftones
    Nirvana
    Switch 3
    The Black Stars
    Sunken Chest
    Grinspoon
    The Screaming Jets
    Gorillaz
    devotion.
    The Offspring
    Disturbed
    Led Zepplin
    Metallica
    Dragon Force
    Evanescence
    Red Hot Chilli Peppers
    Faith No More
    Black Sabbath
    AC/DC
    Queen
    Guns N Roses
    The Sex Pistols
    David Bowie
    The Rolling Stones
    The White Stripes
Green Day (A few of their older songs >>).

A little devoid of metal, but hey metal gets a mood for me I'm not after so much nowadays. Hard Rock psyches me out, softer rock relaxes me. Acoustic Rock sends me to a wonderful place not of this Earth.

Are all bands I forgot to put in mine. Fantastic choices. I'd also like to add Dead Can Dance...I've got two of their albums they deserve to be on there. And Lacuna Coil. Fear not, I shall not remember you for your Britney addiction. You shall be remembered for having damn near Identical taste in music as me and being an awesome person.

Also Fishie, I love Razed in Black. They play them all the time at the World Club. I think I love "Oh My Goth" best. But that's prolly cause I've heard it so often. They also did a good cover of Hells Bells. I do hope they put out a new album soon too.

And Celtic reminded me to add The Offspring, Disturbed, Nirvana and AC/DC.

    What about Dream Theater?

And James Labrie? Do you like Labrie's solo work? I find it strange in many ways. It sadly reminds me of an ex, which makes it less enjoyable for me to listen to, sadly, however it's slowed fading the less I listen to it.

There are a few good songs from that band Evanescence. The lead singer annoys the crap out of me, though. I can't fault her voice at all, but I hate the terrible lyrics. Sounds like dying chimps on speed wrote them.

Jeez. I don't really think they're emo... More like, the lame side of Gothic which people are kind of embarrassed about. And Goths try to deny it, and emo's try to deny it, but we all know that's sort of how it's become. That's my opinion, anyway. I honestly can't listen to them more than once every two months without feeling like a doof. Weird.

I don't know why...I've always detested metal, in all of its forms. It's just too loud for me, I suppose, most of it just sounds like noise. I like music I can think to.

....that's all I had to say

And also, it's good to see the RP alive again!

Aw XD. Evanescence was one of the first bands I started following, actually. Guess I was about eleven or twelve? Maybe a tiny bit older. I've got all of their albums and DVDs, though.

I don't listen to them as much as I used to at all, actually. Barely once a month I'll flick over to an album of their's.

I think that they're quite talented, though. Amy Lee undoubtably has one of the best female voices in the music industry, and I'd easily say the best in the mainstream music industry. And of course I can't really say, but from the DVDs that I've seen she truly does seem like a lovely girl. She's also.. Very beautiful. I think I've wanted hair like that ever since I was a littlie XD.

I think they're a good band, really. The instrumentalists can play instruments well and the vocalists can sing. I've also noticed that they don't put themself out there as 'gothic'. I heard one of them say "We're not saying that we're gothic or emo or metal or anything, we just play and write what we feel like." I can't hold anything against that ><.

True. But in the end, I think it really comes down to the majority of the listeners/critics. They might be telling the truth about writing and playing how they like to, and yeah, that's a great thing. But at the same time, it gets twisted and contorted by the fans and non-fans anyway.

The consumers change everything and that's what starts all kinds of rumours and opinions, etc. It's pretty sad, but I think everybody does it to some degree. In the end, I'm probably one of the biggest critics I know. I judge and stick by my judgement, and that's no doubt a bad thing in a more than one cases.

Please tell me one of you here has heard Blut Aus Nord? Excellent stuff right there.

I feel the same way about most metal myself, Govinda. I've wanted to like more of it, but I just can't get into it. Also, I clicked and I liked. Thank you.

I have heard some Dream Theatre, Chez, and I liked what I heard. I always meant to expose myself to more of them but I never did. Hmm. I'm also a Pain of Salvation fan. Like them a lot. I'm not against that kind of thing as long as they sing to me instead of purely yelling.

Oh, and Amy Lee is from my home town and no one there ever forgets it.

Um. I rarely hear them mentioned here, but Coheed and Cambria? Anyone? I love 'em. I do.

Lately, I've been listening to A Fine Frenzy and a Scrubs soundtrack. The Coral make me happy.

RP! Glad I didn't kill it. I started on a post yesterday night and reeaally want to finish it tonight or tomorrow. I'm real good at getting distracted, but I will try.

Oh! And and and! Thank you Chez and Vampiric both for the avy/banner comments. That made me happy.
    Curious?

Dream Theatre is okay. I can't call them cheezy without being called a hippocrite. Because I used to listen to Dio. Yes DIO. As in Ronnie James. But I like a few of their songs, Metropolis was okay. Can't say that I own one of their albums, classic though they are.

Evanesence is almost a little too mainstream for most Gothic tastes and some of their songs are borderline cheezy, but I wouldn't be so cruel as to ban them from a Goth's library. I doubt a real emo would claim them, either, though.

What about you Chez, ever heard Lacrimosa? True Goth Metal. A hybrid of our 'tastes.' You can find a link somewhere in my list, I think. It's in German, mind.

Cough. I'd like to apply. >.>

Why do you think you are unique?
I am unique because I am at the centre of all. Using Star Wars terminology, I am a grey Jedi. I find the middle grounds to be the zenith of wisdom in a large majority of life's dilemas. Learning from different extremes to find a middle ground that is reasonable is essential as extremists on every end of every spectrum are foolish and lead to needless conflict and ignorance. Also, I'm a solipsist (thank you for that word, Sinister). I don't believe you exist. Why I'm joining a club made by someone that probably doesn't exist is simple: I'm bored and I can only assume I created this imaginary world out of boredom. No, I don't believe that I absolutely created this world and you are all fake. That would be a silly assumption given no proof. But the only thing I do know is my own existence (my concious), so it is all I can truly believe. I hope that's enough. I hate saying too much because it'll sound like an angsty teen.

What talents separate you from others? Be advised that I'm only looking for unique talents.
Well, I have the uncanny ability to know far more than I can actually handle. What I mean by this is that usually I will know what to do, I simply can't do it. A mundane example is metalworking. I know excatly how to arc weld properly, but for the life of me, I can't do it. I could probably teach someone sooner than I could do it properly myself. Of course, this reaches far more complex and metaphysical conflicts, but I think you get my drift. I am a watcher.

Has anyone ever referred to you as different/strange/weird/freak/insane?
Well, Sinister, you kind of did earlier today. >.> I get the weird one a lot, but I don't think much of it considering those that usually say so are your typical highschool/university moron. I suppose it does happen a fair ammount though.

How do you deal with the rest of the world, being so absurdly different as you are?
I usually tend to stay away from it. I suppose I unintentionally adopted a sort of Taoist reclusiveness policy and have been attempting a more Buddhist approach of not being at all attached to any part of the world. Of course, as I said before, I don't believe in extremes, so I do not intend to go live alone in the mountains or give up all of my desires. I just try to find the middle grounds that will yield happiness. It is a long journey that has yet to end, but it's a reason to live, so I press on.

What title would you select to describe yourself, which we may refer to you openly?(NOTE: Please be unique)
Buddao - yeah, I'm that creative.

    Word, yo.

    Until now!

    I have, actually!

I told you my msic knowledge was fairly impressive.

The music is great. The vox aren't really to my taste, although they're a valueable mention when it comes down to the Gothic and metal theme. I think it leans more toward the side of Gothic, but there are songs which appear to be more metal than Gothic. In all, a very good, balanced band. They wouldn't make it into my top fifty, but they're very impressive for what they sound like.

The person in my avatar is me.

Welcome to the Theatre, Buddao the Hybrid. Love the title.
    And even happier to add yet another member of distinction and intelligence to our ranks. I'll edit the first post and you're now a member. Post lots ^^;

@Chez It does guiltily lean closer to Goth, I fear. But they have their metal moments. As for vocals, don't worry, Goth band leadsingers seem to pride themselves in their lack of range. And it is an acquired taste, I suppose.

You have some good offerings here, Steel. Long long ago many of these were my favorites and some still hold some good places in faves list.

    AC/DC(Have to love them)
Rush(not my thing but they were a great band and had some good songs)
    Dream Theater(see above)
Metallica (Didn't like St. Anger either?)
System of a Down(I like this group)
Godsmack(I'll admit to liking them even when Omega isn't around)
Blue Oyster Cult(A good band, as a Goth I'm required by religion to pay respects)
In Living Color(Always liked Cult of Personality)
    Evanescence(see above)
Korn(have them in my favorites as well, even their new stuff is still listenable)
Nirvana(Better burn out than fade away)
Alice in Chains(Nirvana's doppelganger or vice versa I like their songs but never got off my duff to get an album )
    Disturbed(See my fave list)
    Iron Maiden(Two minutes to midnight)
Dio(yes...I own several albums...even *sigh* His "new" stuff...><)
    Black Sabbath(always a classic)
    Tenacious D(Loved the movie)
    Radiohead(Me, you and Gov)
    The Offspring(Me too)
    Weird Al Yankovia(Who doesn't)

Actually I got into Enya about three years ago, when my math teacher would play it all the time while we worked. I just ended up really liking it, some of the most mellow stuff I listen to, besides Native American Flute music.

    I'm in!

It appears we are discussing bands we like, so I will list mine now. I don't have quite as many as some, but they serve me well.

    AFI
    Apocalyptica
    Black Sabbath
    Blind Guardian
    Demons and Wizards
    Gamma Ray
    HammerFall (I'm half a fan)
    Helloween
    HIM
    Iced Earth
    Iron Maiden
    Judas Priest
    Kamelot
    L'ame Immortelle
    Metallica
    Opeth
    Pink Floyd
    Rhapsody
    Trans-Siberian Orchestra

There's some other bands that I do listen to, but I don't feel liking one or two songs every once in a while really counts. So there you go.

    Until now!

I know that this isn't centered on the current discussion, but I need a spot of help, from some weird points of view. I had to write this poem in my high school English class about where we see ourselves in five years. I've been told by Ellie, a writer and fellow member, that it was good, but there was something wrong with it, but neither she nor I have been able to figure out what, so, I'm going to post it, and i'd like to see if anyone else can figure it out before I go crazy.

"Futures of a High School Nerd"

    In a private dorm room
    at a Sarasota University
    He cracks a window before
softly slipping into a serene slumber
the sound of waves crashing in the distance.

    A twisted body straightened
    Stormy blue-grey eyes liberated
    from large thick glasses
    His bones no longer visible
His appearance unique, and slightly more refined
    Bodily imperfections prominent, but subdued.

    He passes from uncertainty, confusion
to certainty, resolution, set on his course in life
    Lectures where pen meets paper
    Practicals where screwdriver meets chassis
His calling, passion, major; computer science

    His outward demeanor remains pleasant
    masking the raging tempest that
forever lingers in the darkest reaches of the mind
    the should-haves, the shouldn't-haves
    haunting his memory evermore

    Cast from the simplistic life
    of high school, thrown into
    the confusion of college existence
    left to sink and drown
    or to swim and suceed.

The taste of triumph over trials and
tribulations in life is the taste of true success.

I just can't figure out for the life of me what's wrong with it, though it just doesn't feel right...

It seems fairly solid, although something about this stanza:

    'A twisted body straightened
    Stormy blue-grey eyes liberated
    from large thick glasses
    His bones no longer visible
His appearance unique, and slightly more refined
    Bodily imperfections prominent, but subdued.'

Don't seem quite right to me. Not exactly sure what's doing it...
Maybe I'm just reciting it wrong. ><
    But yeah, it's solid dude.

As I no nothing about the technical aspects of poetry, I ain't touching that with a 40 foot pole.

So I went to the bookstore today and splurged a bit on some philisophical books. Well, religiously/historically philisophical books. I bought me a book on the life of Buddha, because I find him an interesting individual, like Jesus, a book on his teachings and (you'll like these Sinister) Stories of the Dao and the classic Tao Te Ching. The prices for all of these except perhaps the one about Buddha's life were rip offs when it comes to money, but I'm looking forward to reading these.

So, anyone buy any good books lately?

    Until now!

I just read "Extras" by Scott Westerfeld.

God, I love Scottie. I read his blog and listen to any music he makes and read every last one of his books.. If you go to his website you almost fall in love with him instantly. he does have an amazing personality and a warped sence of humour, which I can.. Relate to, a little.

It wasn't his best.. Maybe he decided he just left too many people sobbing at the end of Specials and needed a happy ending. It was good.. But not 'wow'.

Also reading the Demonata.. By Darren Shan of course, who I love. It's good. Not sure if it'll compare to the original saga, but I'm liking it so far.

Oh, and the "The Dreaming" manga. This is a little different.. It's an Australian manga, but unlike alot of Western mangas it's not trying to be Japanese.. It's very, very Australian. And it's my type of thing. It has cute twins, Victorian girls, old art and skeletons. Yay.
I've been on this site since 2006 woah
