    That's a good thought Renji.

How about Kyoraku vs. Ukitake (on one of his good days)?

Also, the trivia question remains unanswered.

...I have absolutely no clue who those characters are. Bleach has quite a lot of characters; I only know the main characters and main supporting cast.

Did some more memory-searching, and realized that Uryu is similar to the Digimon Emperor from Season 2 of Digimon.

    Both are initially antagonists
Both later join the protagonist's group (and retain a limited rivalry with the main character)
Both go to the same school as the protagonist
    Solitary scholars
    Blue hair

Kyoraku is the 8th division captian who likes to drink, and almost always wear that pink cloak, and Ukitake is the 13th division captain who is really nice, has white hair and tuburculosis (Sorry about the spelling error).

I'll go ahead and say that I think Kyoraku would win. Both have similar zanpukto's and fighting style, so I think the question would really be over endurance. Kyoraku has more endurance than Ukitake, because even though Ukitake has his good days, his body is still weak.

How's about Tatsuki (the martial artist/high school student with black hair that hangs out with Orihime) vs. Orihime?
    -----------------------------

Kon and Daxter (Jak and Daxter)

Well, Kon's more of a pervert, but they both have a "thing for the ladies"
They're both fuzzy little....animal like things...
They're both extremely annoying, but you learn to love them

Its been a long time since I've done this. So I figured that I would get back into the activity of the clubs again. Not nearly as many clubs as I was interested in back in the day. Managing 30 clubs is quite the thrill. But that aside, I've been looking at the club for a while simply because I've gotten into Bleach a lot lately. Being that it is on Adult Swim (AS), that is when I watch it. So I have not seen all 123 episodes or anything, but I also am not planning on watching fan subbed versions. So I'll be take the slow process of waiting each week for a new episode and then waiting two years after the show is over to see how it ends.

My knowledge of Bleach is limited to the 31 episodes I have seen thus far and the amount that I have had spoiled for me by either people or myself. Certain things I know about is the second release or final release, even though it has not popped up in the show yet. I know what Renji's and Ichigo's Bankai looks like it and some of the captains. But that is thanks to a guide that I was given which showed all of the swords and their different forms.

I also know about Ichigo's hollow version, that will not be appearing for like another 50 episodes or more. I know it surfaces and apparently he fights with himself the inner hollow at like episode 122 or something. I made the mistake of reading a few of the episodes on the guide on Wikipedia when I was trying to learn how much longer I had to sit through the Rescue Arc that they were on.

Lets see what else, my favorite ending song is Life is like a Boat, but I do really enjoy the song for the second song ending credits, the first half. I have watched all of the intros and outros on Youtube, and I think I like the second opening the most.

I don't know most of the captains too well, simply because there are thirteen of them and I have only seen a couple of them more than once, so learning their names is difficult. Right now, I actually like the 4th squad, might seem a little strange, but I find them curious since they are not really fighters per say. Plus if I am correct, the captain is a woman who braids her hair in front and around her neck, which I find very fascinating.

I actually liked Bleach more at the beginning in the first season more than I do right now. The first season didn't have the feel of an arc or anything. It was just stories chained together, that would often be paired up. Nothing was dragged out and everything was important and necessary. Unfortunately, once they hit the Soul Society a lot of that changed. It became a long drive to rescue Rukia, which I didn't mind. There has been plenty of interesting things happening. It just feels like so much of it has been dragging on that it is not as interesting. I'm more interested in seeing what is going to have to Ichigo, what new abilities he will gain and who he will fight. Bleach does a good job on humor when it is not trying too hard at it. The dad was fun and quite random, always broke up the serious moment. But it never felt too over done. Feels more like they are trying to slow things down on purpose almost. One of the reasons I loved the show so much at the beginning was that it was not another long drawn out anime where things take episodes and episodes to complete one task. There was never a dull moment or a pause, now I feel like all I'm getting is pauses.

Now that I have over analyzed Bleach, mind if I join the club?

Oh no, not at all, well, I don't mind but I guess that is up to Xeim which I'm pretty sure she will, but she won't be on... yet.

Maybe around in the evenings or if not today I'll PM her about it

    Haha, thanks for that Prodigy.

Of course you can join Andromeda. I'm honored to have you in the club.

No worries about watching them on AS. I usually try to get people into the fan-subbings, but everyone has their preferences, so it's not like they can be forced. Personally, I hate a week's wait, but it's always a lot harder to watch 20 episodes a day, and then find you've caught up and have to wait like everyone else.

I love Life is like a Boat. I have it on my itunes (I went all geeky and bought the soundtracks). So I agree with you there. But I must say that my favorite opening is "Rolling Star" by YUI. I always enjoyed attempting to sing along, but I always ended up humming because it went way to fast for me.

It took me ages to memorize the captain's and vice-captain's names. In fact, there's a few I still don't know, and I was only able to figure the ones I know out with the help of Wikipedia.

As for fourth division, it's not all that strange you like them. There captain, Unohana, is really cool. And yes, she is the one who braids her hair in front. I wish she was in it more, as she's one of my favorite captains, but what can you do. Fourth Division gets neglected, even though Soul Society probably couldn't function without them. Think of how many of people would have been dead if not for them.

Even where the story is in Japan, I must say that I really enjoyed the story a lot more at the beginning. There are a lot of pauses, like you said, and sometimes when you finish an episode you feel like you're only five or ten minutes into it because ABSOLUTELY NOTHING happens. I remember watching the "rescue Rukia" part, and would always go "Maybe they'll get her this time!" I was stuck saying this for too many episodes. They did a good job of holding the story together and making every pause seem necessary though. I was always forced to admit that I was glad they hadn't rescued her yet.

I hated what they did with Rukia's character though. She started out as a strong female lead who always pushed Ichigo around, and ended up as a weaker character who didn't even have the strength to stand up for herself. Her habits stay the same, but she seemed to wither away in front of my eyes.

On a side note, Andromeda, you'll be, ironically, put into fourth Division.

yay, i've got Andromeda. i don't really know you too well, but welcome to the Bleach club.

AS VS SUB: i prefer mine subbed, but i watch them on AS as often as possible also. the only thing that bugs me on AS is the characters voices sound so different after listening to the Japanese voice actors, but other than that i don't mind the televised eps.

songs: so far i haven't really been impressed with the ending songs, but i liked the last opener, the rolling star, and the first one they had, forgot the name though.

beggining vs. current: i will have to be the weirdo here and say that i actually like it currently all drawn out than the way the beginning was. When its all drawn out, it seems kinda pointless. it reminds me of a Mario Party game. Its all mini-games and gets boring after a while of doing the same thing over, and over, and over. It was kinda like that at the beginning.
    o, ichigo's gonna fight a hollow. cool

I must agree with Abarai. I like the current eps other than the beginning eps. Reason? Simple: The beginning was just to boring performing Shinigami jobs for Rukia by killing hollows in place of hers. Got way too boring. I needed somehting that would keep me interested so I have to say the current affiliations with the episodes right now are just so much more better. I just hated that stupid Bounto Arc (it was insanely boring) and their plot was not that great even at all.

    Now we have:
    Spoiler:
The arrancar and Aizen's plan to take over the world and Soul Society as he assembles his 10 Espadas. Current ones known are:

    Ulquiorra Schiffer
    Grimmjow Jaggerjack
    Yammy

    Current ones in manga are:

    Zaera Polo Grantz
    Arronerio Arleri
    Noitora

Anyways, Ichigo is fighting his inner hollow and is only using the Vizards to help him become stronger and now all or most of the Vizards step in one-on-one to fight Ichigo's Hollow. Lisa Yadomaru v.s. Hollow Ichigo

(Lisa is awesome and it is quite humorous to know what her hobbies and personal are pointed put by one of the fellow Vizards)

Yeah Rukia seemed to have resigned herself to her fate. She would probably be fighting it if she knew that Ichigo would not become involved. But seeing as he has her powers, he is going to be involved one way or another. Not to mention she knows how stubborned that he is that he would not leave her to die. Especially since he knows that he is part of the reason for it all.

Though when Ichigo fought Renji and got stabbed a few times by Rukia's brother Byakyuo or whatever name is, didn't he break a few things. The result being that Rukia's powers would be released? Ichigo is running off his own Soul Reaper powers right now as I understand it, at least that was what I was lead to believe from the training and everything. So shouldn't she have her powers back. Though Renji insists that Ichigo still has to die to release her powers. Seems a little strange to me.

I don't know if you watch the AS episodes, since you've already seen the subbed episodes. But they had Ichigo and Renji's fight in the Seireitei. Naturally, Ichigo won in the end. But it was a pretty cool fight. Though the first swing that Ichigo took when he awoke his sword in the training room seemed to create a far deeper hole than the one this time. Still pretty cool all the same. I've actually watched the episode 3 times already. I usually watch Bleach twice because I enjoy the episodes so much. Though I did skip through the first half of the previous episode, since it was just that guy they took hostage talking about Rukia and the stories she told him. I just wanted to see Ichigo and Renji fight again. Ichigo is pretty cool, but Renji looks better. Seems a little funny, but one thing Japanese always know how to do, make their villains or opponents looks really cool even if they are fighting the main character.

So I get to be in squad 4 huh, sounds like fun. Your newest grouping, since you filled up your first three groups. You not really doing anything oriented with the anime/manga with the groups though, right? Just keeping with the format, in a manner a speaking. This squad 4 is not mirrored off the real one. That correct?

I liked the fight between Ichigo & Renji a lot, it gave me a break from the lame 'ol running away. But, now unfortunately, Ichigo has to recover until his next fight witch is probably going to be like two more episodes. I want Zaraki to find him already! That fight is going to be insane!

And to answer your question about the Squads, Rommy, I don't think that he is linking the Squads to the anime or manga, I think.

Yeah, I'll be interested in seeing the Zaraki fight, since it is a captain. Ichigo I would imagine will be strong enough to take a captain. Though the captains are all at different strengths, and different styles. So who knows how strong Zaraki is compared to the other captains.

And comparing the beginning and arcs. I enjoy the arc, since there is a point to them and a story that goes through it connecting all of the 40 some odd episodes. It is just that it is 40 episodes that is annoying. They spent several episodes just with the spirit orb training and things, that it was getting very boring. Then you get the fight with Ichigo, that was good. But Gonju runs for his life the whole time, which thankfully was not an entire episode, but darn near close to it. Then they both run around for two more episodes before Renji. It is things like that, that are just artifically lengthing the arc for no good reason. That is my own complaint. The beginning was quick and faster paced, with little areas where there is a time to waste time. It could be a lot worse, they could drag things on even further. But it is very jarring when it is moving quickly introducing new characters and wrapping up character stories in a couple episodes and then suddenly you come to a halt with filler time almost.

But the beginning also have interesting stories that were small and contained. The thing with Orihime's brother and becoming a hollow I found to be very enjoyable. There was Chad and the bird with a child's soul attached. I really enjoyed that one, especially when Chad was able to see him when he entered the Soul Society. It is obvious you can't jump from fight to fight, there needs to be time in between. But the endless maze of the Seireitei was a little boring. Breaking down the walls was the most intelligent thing to do.

Isn't Zaraki the captain who either ignores or doesn't feel pain? Sorry for the rather Bleach-newb question.

Any explanation for this innate ability? Or is it just sheer badassery?

A: To tell in my perspective I would have to say, probably not... You see how Ichigo was going to pass out as Byakuya was raising up his sword for the final strike and out of nowhere, Ichigo's Hollow comes out so I'd say No.

    Other Discussion V.S.

    Uryuu Ishida v.s. Renji Abarai
    ==========================

Based on qualities and fighting skills and abilities, on you own opinion, who would you think would most likely win? Oh yeah, Renji uses Bankai and Uryuu with his Quincy powers regained (No Sanrei Gloves Removed).
    ==========================

Tatsuki v.s. Orihime eh? Well, since Tatsuki still has not really had any powers or special abilities, I'd say Orihime would win easily using Tsubaki to pierce Tatsuki. I just know that if it were to ocme ot this, Orihime wouldn't have the guts to and if Tatsuki was posssessed or anything, even maybe for fun, she'd beat Orihime down. Reason, because she's a bit tomboyish -.-

Yes, Ichigo has awakened his own shinigami abilities. However, from what I've gathered, it seems Ichigo would have to completely die for Rukia's powers to be returned immediately. Urahara stopped Ichigo from dying, which means Rukia's powers hadn't returned. They also, if I'm not mistaken, made her wear a collar they kept her from using spirit power, as well as locked her in a tower that had the same effect. So, even if she did have her powers back, she couldn't use them.
    ---------------------

I also enjoyed the fight between Ichigo and Renji. I really don't like english dubs, so I don't watch them on AS. Then there's the added problem of me not having cable....but I wouldn't watch them if I did. So, it's been a while since I saw it, but I remember the episode well. My favorite part of the fight was the end of it when Ichigo remembers his training with Urahara and quotes the things Urahara says to him. I can't quite remember all of it right now, but I sure wish I did.

Yes, right now I have no plans on doing anything manga/anime oriented with our Gotei, I merely followed the format. In our Rp, however, we will be joining the divisions as they are. The story is going to start before the Soul Society arc, so if you choose to join, you'll be able to keep up.

I suppose that leads me to my question. Andromeda, would you be at all interested in joining in on the RP?

    Renji vs Ishida

I'd have to go with Renji. Ishida may appear to have the advantage with long-range attacks, but Renji's zanpukto can go pretty far as well. Not only that, but it can easily be used as a shield. This is tough one to explain for me. Can I just go with, Renji's a total badass?

Next up: Aizen Sousuke (Soul Society arc) vs. Kuchiki Byakuya

Yeah I'll take a look into the RP and see what I decide to do. I'm used to the English translation, so some of the things I might not completely understand. Most of it I have been able to figure out through context. So I should be mostly fine. But I'll probably continue to refer to things in English version rather than the Japanese, since I little knowledge of it. I know Shinigami is Soul Reaper, but I don't know most of the translations.

So even though he is no longer using her power, he still has ownership over it. That is a strange thing. They want to kill her anyway for breaking the rules. So I guess it would not really matter if she got them back or not. Though she also seems content to die or at least does not want to fight it. It is interesting how at the beginning of the show you get this really nice picture of Soul Reapers painted in your mind. You sort of know they aren't completely good and do something that are cruel, but they are definitely the good guys. And yet now at this point they are all just as twisted and manipulative as hollows. In the end the only difference is going to be who wins when all is said and done.

In the English version the words went something like this. When you counter don't let them hit you. When you protect someone don't let them die. When you attack kill. You could see it in Ichigo's eyes that when he swung his sword he meant it to be a killing blow and not just to push you back. And there is his resolve and with blue flames in his eyes. It was a little more Ichigo style carrying his sword on his back rather than sticking it up in the air to power up. Still cool none the less.
Curious? There's no limits but your own imagination.

Well, I know I go back and forth between Soul reaper and shinigami, though I say shinigami more. I think that's one of the major changes between the english and japanese that everyone should know.

Since I'm not quite literate in the english version terminology might I ask you a couple things?

Do refer to the spells casted by Soul reapers as Kidou or something else?

They refer to their source of energy as spirit power and not reiatsu correct?

And, did they change the name of the part of soul society where the soul reapers reside? In the Japanese version it's Serietai.

If it would help any, I could attempt to find and record any words that change between the versions and record them in our OOC, updating the list as I go along. I'm pretty sure there are a couple RP participaters who only watch the AS version, like you.
    ----------------------
The shinigami are definately strange. I think they're an amazing idea. That the afterlife would have its own set of samurai. In fact, Soul Society greatly reminds me of a fictitious feudal japan. It is, of course, not exactly like it, but the shinigami are protecters of a more powerful power, while outside their citadel you have all the poor commoners who are forced to work very hard to stay alive. I might be making things up here, but it's just something I've noticed.

At the beginning, I expected Soul Society to be very different. I thought that if Ichigo ever went there, it would be so Rukia could introduce him to her friends and such, and that everyone would be friends. boy was I wrong.
    ------------------------

That's pretty similar to the Japanese, but I think one of the lines was "When you protect someone, you WONT let them die." Instead of "When you protect someone, don't let them die"

I love Ichigo's fighting style. Throughout the whole show, I've found that Ichigo's sole redeeming quality. The character himself gets on my nerves, but the way he fights is breathtaking at points. Of course, him being the main character, that makes since, right?

The English version from what I can tell kept a lot of the things from the Japanese in its traditional tongue. Though they did make alterations, I guess Soul Reaper was an easier concept to convey than Shinigami. I don't know. But Soul Reaper is definitely the largest and important different. The Seireitei is still called that in the English version. And Rikua still uses her Kidou. I've never seen anyone else use it, but since everyone else has a sword there probably not a lot of reason.

They say Spirit Pressure more than Spirit Power, but they are really much the same thing as far as I can tell. I'm not sure why that decided on pressure, maybe to try to distance themselves from sounding like all of the other fighting action anime that is all about power levels and spirit power.

There refer to the districts by their Japanese names. Rukon District was the one that dropped in on, if I spelled it correctly. But they say Squads rather than Gotei. As for the Bankai, I don't know if they are going to call it that or something else. They do not really even give a name or term what when they do the first release. So I'm not sure if they are just going to hedge around that or something. But since you have to say Bankai to do the release, I'd guess not.

Oh I can see how it could be called spirit pressure. I don't really want to ruin anything for you, but a possible source of the name appears before the Zaraki vs Ichigo fight.

I hope they don't change bankai. If a character went around saying, "Final Release!" It'd sound kind of....well it's best put as cheesy I suppose.

The area they were dropped on is Rukongai in the Japanese, so it looks like they just shortened it?

Also, they don't refer to the shinigami as the "gotai" as much as the "13 protection squads." Gotei, is the japanese word for it I believe. I guess it depends on the encoder one would use for the japanese version. I've seen the vice-captains as vice-captains as well as lieutenants, and divisions as divisions as well as squads. That's the only confusing part of the subtitling. Which version did the english version adapt? Or did it take something else entirely?

Thank you for the info so far. Its actually particularly fascinating for me to learn about the changes made between the two versions. If you find any other words that have been changed for the english version could you let me know so I could add it onto my list? Most of the changes are obvious, but there could be a few that would throw some members for a loop.

I hope you decide to join the RP, as I'd really love to have you in it.

They say Captain and Lieutenant. I think that the squads have been referred to as the Protection Squads before as well. Though typically they just say Squad such and such. When they are speaking more formally and at length I think they bring out the more proper title.

They seemed to have kept a lot of the Japanese in the show, so I would imagine that Bankai probably makes it in. But I guess we will see when Renji and Ichigo learn their Bankai.

There is the Sekiseki rock or however it is spelled. I think that is the same, at least it sounds Japanese. And they refer to Ichigo's party as Ryoka or however it is spelled. That is probably Japanese as well. I'm not sure about Kon, it was a really long and hard to say name. So I would say that it was Japanese too. They say Mod Soul as another name for it, which I guess would be the English translation of what the Japanese was.

I started reading over the OoC thread. I will continue to read it over since there are already a fair amount of posts and I am currently writing a RP post for another RP. So my time is a little divided. What I saw looks interesting, at least from a Bleach point of view. I will try to keep thinking of what else might be important words that got changed in translation.

I just watched Ichigo and Renji's fight a fourth time. It was so much fun to watch it. Always enjoyable seeing Ichigo do a devastating move that destroys earth more than the person. Makes it seem all the most powerful, in spite of appearances that it should have cleaved Renji in two. But Renji's attack should have ripped through Ichigo's ribs and destroyed a lung or something. But in spirit form I guess you really don't have a body to have injured. Just the appearance of damange done while you bleed still. A little strange.

Well, after all, since probably that the Shinigami who inhabit Seiretei who are members of the 13 Court Divisions/Protection Squads (referred to Japan as the Gotei 13) or however you may like ot call it, are put to harsh training based on their status.

You probably know about the 11th Division right? You know with Zaraki, his lieutenant(s) have referred to their Division as the strongest (in terms of brutal comabt with swords) in the 13 Protection Squads. Since they are known for that, you'd bet they train hard on their stamina and offense, could care less about defense for them.

Now, since they have been trained and went through exams and have been assigned missions and such you could guess they could take more damage than living people. Like what you have said with Renji and Ichigo. A normal human being would have probably counted that as fatal or have been dead but since Shinigami are already dead, they can whitstand a great deal of hits.

To tell the truth, watching Renji rip through Ichigo's shoulder like that with his Zabimaru, was ughhhhh... I could almost feel that happening to me right now. It gives me the shivers...

Other than that, I must say for their Shikai, to call the command for their Zanpakutoh, for example: Renji, "Roar! Zabimaru!" is better than saying Shikai, and then the name, just like in Bankai. That is the initial release. Hopefully when they do get to around episode 40+ we could hopefully say that they would see "Bankai" and not the "Final Release" as Xeim said making it sound un... (thinking of other word than cheesy) un...Bleach like! Yeah, that's it. Also, you got to love the theme songs for Bleach.

Some of the themes are good. Though I really did not like the second ending credits song for the first season. I thought it sounded really bad. I don't know, maybe the female singers have better songs. But I like the second season opener and that is a male group. So I don't know, but I was glad for the second ending to be over. I could listen to the first ending for the first and second seasons over and over again. Plus I think it is pretty nice how they introduce you to all of the squads, captains and lieutenants mainly. It is pretty cool watching each of them. Gives them all some personality that we had not seen before, since the meeting did not really go into each captain that much.

Though I've barely seen much from the Lieutenants. They all gathered together and that was about it. Most of them are still trying to figure out what is going on and wearing their badges. Only Zaraki and the little girl are out doing something. Though that Masked Captain, which is really strange is on the prowl. And Gin has been missing from the screen for a while, in spite of being mischievious. And what's with that girl that is going around with the Masked Captain. He said something about putting her back in pieces or something. I guess she is a Lieutenant, really submissive, very wierd their relationship whatever it is. It's like she owns her life or something to him.

Oh, that masked captain who looks like a skull? and that lieutenant who was following him? Well, only read if you are sure you want to spoil anything for yourself.

    Spoiler:
That captain's name is Mayuri Kurosutchi and that lieutenant is his "artificial daughter named Nemu Kurosutchi. Mayuri is the captain of the 12th Division and is looking for test subject sacrifices (live people) Around ep 40+ is when we get to see a Bankai.

Hmmmmm... Oh yeah, another spoiler (sorry if I keep doing them, can't help myself)

    Spoiler:
The girl lieutenant on Kenpachi's sohulder is Yachiru Kusajishi. The reason why she is with "Ken-chan" all the time is because of what happened in the past. After nearly destroying a village or something like that, Kenpachi found a little baby girl and decided to take her with him and Kenpachi therefore named himself from the district of Zaraki and named the girl Yachiru Kusajishi.

Hopefully, you're referring to the girl with the pink hair... if not, then my mistake. Yeah, I agree, the songs are just fantastic though I got to love the female-led songs though a few male ones were pretty good. Example was the first theme song.

One question that has me questioning is... how did they come up with the lyrics and English subs though when you sing it in english, you see it makes no sense at all. Though, the Japanese part of it sounds so much better. The way they designed Bleach is very creative. Not too much profanity or nudity and not all of that stupid stuff where things explode and we see all of these disturbing images. Very nice theme-layout, names, background information, and characters. Quite possibly my most favorite anime or even T.V. Show.

Yeah I was talking about the pink haired girl. In the English version she is always calling him Kenny, which would be the closest thing to Ken-chan, since both are meant to be cute child like things to say I'd imagine. He is quite the giant though when compared to her, she barely fits on his shoulder at times. And even when you compare her to the more normal sized members of her team, she is still like half as tall as them if that.

I did not read much of your spoilers, just the first line or two and stopped at that. So I did not really reveal anything too important to myself. But I figured that there was a story behind all of them. There are a bunch of important characters and I can only imagine that a part of them will have their history revealed at some point in the show.

Something else that I noticed, though it was more like they put it out there for you to think about for a while until they decide to answer the riddle. But when Ichigo returned to being a Soul Reaper during the training and first showed his new sword off. The large man with the mustache said something that made him familiar with the sword as though it was either famous, legendary or very important to him in some manner. Is that explained? I guess some connection that guy he looks a lot like or something. They did not make a huge deal out of it, but there seemed to be something important left unsaid.

If you think about it, the Zanpaktou's have their own souls. One would think that the Soul Reapers and their Zanpaktou's communicate with each other some how. Thus, the Soul Reaper you mentioned, Rommy, was told by his Zanpaktou of Zangetsu.

Jecht has a good point there, but I'm not quite sure who you mean when you say "large man with the mustache." Do you mean the one who works for Urahara and always wears that apron? Because, Jecht, I'm not quite sure that it was ever said what he was, and I've never heard shinigami, meaning he wouldn't have a zanputou. So, if that's who you mean, Andromeda, then I don't think they've ever resolved that. If it's someone else, then there might be an explanation.

There is three people that work with Urahara. The two kids and the man that is really tall and has a big mustache. I don't know what his name is, but he did some sort of binding on Ichigo while in the pit so that he could not use his arms.

But when Ichigo get out of the pit and revealed his new sword the man said something. He acted as though he was familiar with that sword already in some fashion. And I am pretty sure he isn't a Soul Reaper. I know Urahara was a former captain, but that was about it the others aren't, right? But also Zanputuo's only talk to their owner, and no one else. Right? Even if he did have one, he would not have spoken or hear Zengetsu. The only one that can hear Zengetsu is Ichigo, at least that is what I am lead to believe.

So he must know the sword from somewhere At least he acted like he knew it. Is there ever a backstory reveal about the man and how he came to work for Urahara?

Yes, zanpuktou's can only talk to their wielders.

As for the people who work for Urahara, they've revealed nothing about them so far. I think the big guy (can't remember his name either) looks like a quincy, but since the Ishida's are the only quincys left, he isn't. They just started revealing little bits about the young girl, but as of yet they've said nothing about the three. Maybe your question is something that the author plans on answering later, when he reveals the backstories of Urahara's employees. They're obviously special, but I seriously doubt they're shinigami. Someone in Soul Society would've mentioned them by now.

I've wondered about them for a while now. The big guy can even use Kidou.

I think I have somewhat of an explanation. After scanning through the Wikipedia on its Bleach topics, I found that

    Spoiler:
Ichigo's dad is also a shinigami, apparently. And his Zanpakuto has a little ribbon-tassle thingy as well. That may be what the tall man was referring to.

    -edit-

Forgot spoiler tags... sorry if I accidentally ruined anything.

Yeah, there is definitely something strange about them. They are unique in what they can do. Seem like normal humans, but with special powers. Though it would not be any different than Chad or Orihime since they both have very unusual powers that are not like a Soul Reapers or Hollows. I don't know what you classify them as. They are like the Quincy, but the Quincy are their own group now since they all use the same power. Is there a specific name for humans that have spiritual powers?

But I guess that everyone could learn a little something. Even if they had only a small amount of spiritual power they would be able to use a really weak spell that would probably do little to hurt anything. But Ichigo's sisters can see hollows and spirits, though that is in part to Ichigo and the way his family is I guess.

The little girl has a rocket launcher pack or something that she uses. Is that her power or just a special weapon? I know that she has abilities since she was able to take on Ichigo for a while.

Which Squad was Urahara the captain of again? The one that the masked captain is head of now? I remember seeing it in the credits once.
Curious? There's no limits but your own imagination.
