Warning: This thread might become very long. Plus it regards everyone in TFF who is a role-player, a fighter, or someone thinking about getting into either professions. For anyone else who does not care about RPing, you can exit this thread now.

Alright, I'm going to make this clear and to the point. After several weeks if not a month or more of being inactive, I have had an epiphany. It involves Factions, the one thing that was apart of the Club forum for a long time and helped bring out a lot of activity and interaction between the role-players. For members that are new, factions are more or less clans that added a combat element to role-playing, which acted as progress for the storylines. (Seriously, what story isn't progressed without conflict?)

So what was my epiphany you ask? Andromeda made a mistake. Two years ago he decided to ban factions, and understandably so. Back then, both RPing and the club forum was a dying breed that produced more drama than it did good role-playing. Today, I would like to rectify that mistake by bringing factions back, but with a couple twist.

1. Groups will be placed in subforums in the Club forum. (Privately, mind you.)

2. Factions will now have a sense of direction it never really had before. Back then, the Club forum was nothing more than a high school where kids grouped together to create stereotypical factions and fight each other. This time that's not how it's going to be. This new direction is going to be based on a DEFAULT storyline, except there will be almost no restrictions as to what type of characters people can create or what they can do. Basically, it'll be based on a world where everyone will live on the same role-playing world with whatever goal their factions promote.

For example, if someone wants to create a Shinra faction that wants to take over the world, they can. Just suspect groups like AVALANCHE to sprout up in rebellion. Oh, the suspense /sarcasm. (I should mention not all groups can be about combat. If you just wanna be a clan of ninja thieves, that's great to.)

3. Factions must be officially approved before joining the role-play world.

4. Stricter policies. I know Andro hates drama, so these factions will strictly be role-playing based. The faction group forums will not be used to simply chat with other members about OOC bullshit. If a faction wants to talk about boobs, do it on a messenger or VMs. A faction will get three warnings and then they'll be suspended and characters frozen until the suspension is up.

5. Special events will be added for everyone to join. From tournaments and such, factions will get a chance to show themselves off the same way a football team shows what they learned during summer practices.

Anyway, that's mostly what I have right now about the subject. If anyone would like to back me in doing this, contact me via PM, VM, or MSNM.

I know this will work. I've seen it work. All it needs is a direction and the communication between the people who would like to see the role-playing forums alive again. This is my last stand to breathe life into something that just needs an oil change to start running. If you give a damn about this site and these role-playing forums, you'll join me.

The clubs and RP forums are still a bit of a dying place. I had plans to change that, but well life had plans of it's own for me. Like losing my job. >.> So it sort put a lot of things on hold. Anyway, I've been sitting on things for something like a year. I had planned on getting it out then because it was almost done, but things held it up and then when things were ready to go well life sat down on me. I had been planning on getting back to it now that all of that was over, since it would require a lot of my time to manage.

Anyway, I'm going to be vague a little longer. When I banned factions I did so not really quite out of all of the drama. Its not really a matter that I hate drama. Drama is about the only thing that entertains me around here. It was more that it really created a bad taste in so many people's mouths and lives that it seemed like a poison almost. There was plenty of drama, but it just had a viral quality that was not a good one.

That said, I banned things and don't regret it. However, in the light of that I had plans when I banned things pretty much immediately. We, TFF and staffers, have been working on this in like half a dozen different forms since I started here and none of them worked the way we wanted. Though I guess that not to say my attempt will be any better. But enough beating around the bush. My plan was to bring back factions, I do like factions (I was part of two in my time and three if you count Mystic Swordsmen) and I know people like them, so I did not want to deny it. Plus I think it can help to promote RPing. My plan as I said went a little delayed, but it is sitting in its own forum hidden from sight until I was ready to announce it. As I said it is pretty much done, I just wanted to wait until I had the time to manage it and getting laidoff does not make a very good mind set to manage something.

I'm not going to open it or make any more of a formal announcement of it than this post. But since you're interested. I figured I would test the waters to see the interest level. The way it would work is that the factions would each have their own mini-forum where they do their work in private and there is a battle forum where the factions either RP or RPB with each other. It is in its own little forum and can keep all of the factions together there without having to worry about the previous issues that popped up.

This all said, Loco is on board with this, has been since the beginning and is set up as one of the factions' leaders. But I'll need two more leaders. Given your motivation and interest I would like to extend the offer to you to be one of the faction leaders if you're interested. If you want to know more PM or AIM me and I'll give you the details.

But back to serious business that sounds quite brilliant Griffith and i can't wait for it to be running, i was never around when rping was the rage and dearly would i like to see it back to the glory at which it is so explained and by members who remember it that way so i would like to be apart of it now.

I always used to like the factions in clubs. TFF could get pretty dull at times, so it was fun to see The Masters and the like stirring up some drama. And before that it was Forum Wars. And before that Clan Wars, especially Tantalus and EBG (personally). And somewhere wedged in between there was SOLDIER and the Imaginary Numbers. I'm sure there were others.

TFF really wouldn't be TFF without some faction drama and it's more or less inevitable when you have these types of groups. I just hope the whole thing lasts longer this time around. Make sure to recruit as many members as possible! It worked for the Emerald Knights.

So lets say, you get an RP club or faction going. Do you think that would bring the RP boards back into activity? More RPs, that people stick to? If so then count me in.

Well, Loaf, let me give you a low down of how Factions would work.

All Factions will be able to obtain their own private subforum in the club forum. Then the TFF World forum of mine will be edited into one official forum for all Faction OOC and IC activity (RPing + combat). I want to do that because if Factions used the RP/RPB forums, it'd be a lot of going back and forth as Factions would often skip between character interaction and fights, so with Factions having it's own forum for both role-playing and combat would keep things from tangling up. The idea is to focus on Factions first, then if activity becomes great enough, people will naturally want to RP and fight in the other two forums.

Needwork, no, you don't need such requirements to join Factions, though the leaders of factions might have their own set requirements for recruitment.

Other good news is I'll be working with Andro to see this thing through. Suspect more information and such to be coming to TFF daily.

The clan days were some of the best. I'd love to see something like them come back, though I've seen far too many attempts die off. But what the hell, another try won't hurt, right? Count me in.

Well, I have been seeing some inactivity lately and sometimes there isn't anything interesting for me to post or talk about. So if your Faction idea works, Emperor Griffith, this could generate interest. I'm in whole-heartedly.

As a rper from back in the day, I would love to see some proper guidence go into the rping section in general and having factions or clans if you prefer would (In my opinion) do just that.

I am all for the faction idea but I have a question.

1st, who can start a faction?
2nd, do these factions have to be themed? (Ex. Shinra would be an FFVII faction)

I like the idea but I think we really have to plan this out. I also second to use of the TFF world thread for factions, I do agree and think that it will cause for less clutter in the rp section.

1. Anyone, yet there are standards.
2. They can be whatever you want, though they do need to have a purpose and end goal. That is limited, however, to people who might want to create "spam factions" that don't do shit. Hence why all factions must be approved.

Emerald Knights was pretty damn big even when I was in it in... Spring 2001? I think we joined at almost the same time, right? They tended to pull in a lot of the newer members, while Tantalus and Itazura basically split SOLDIER members down the middle. I can't remember what growth was like in Itazura and Fight Club, and Nanten died earlier on when Xyst inactive'd. EBG was never that big and the majority of the serious RPers were in Tanty if anything, but when Clan Wars started to die only the vets of before and now really stuck around. Then Forum Wars started.

ALL of the clans had their prolific members during its high point though. I think that's what really made Clan Wars recruitment and drama great. They were balanced and each had a distinct appeal. Then again, I was 13 and everything about TFF had me in awe, so that may be embellishing reality.

Still, I think that's what would make this whole thing a success. Balance out factions, make them distinct, and get some rivalries going. Though some of us may be at the point where we can't take it seriously anymore, which sort of kills the whole experience. Can't be afraid to let go once in a while.

What in heavenly tarnation are you speaking of? Only one Faction will be the dominant one. I don't even have to mention which one will that be. Heck, I don't even have to mention who will be the members.

It shall be revealed in due time. Fear not. As the war heats, the faction shall reveal the master deck of cards (both carton and plastic), and all shall subdue to it.

In either case, I've always thought this was what made the forum different from others. I wasn't here when the Clan Wars and Forum Wars were at full heat, though I was here on the second go at factions (when they were still at the Clubs section) Since it was lost, RP just hasn't been the same. I've tried to look for good RPs, those which aren't tied mostly to a game or a series (with some exceptions: Red XIV's FF8 sequel RPs were, in my opinion, great enough for me to participate). Even with light RPs and the like, it seems like people just isn't as interested in RPs as before. So I'd say, doing it mostly because of honor instead of just dragging yourself to participate in one should do good enough.

At least, I expect. Else, I'll be forced to ask Fuzz if he can implement the "Dice" BB code to TFF World and cause a forceful takeover...

You're right. The Polk Coalition will be unstoppable now! I may even have to bring back the banner.

I'm not the biggest Role Player in the world (see: never actually RP'ed in my life), but this seems really interesting. Hey, who knows, I might actually try my hand at RP'ing (see: highly ****ing unlikely).

If I started a faction called 'Bitches', created for the sole purpose of lols in the world of RPs, would it be stopped or not? Or maybe the name could be changed. 'Hoes'. '**** You, I'm a Human!'.

I get the general feeling that the older version of this created teh dramorz. If this one will too, count me in. ****ity, I might even RP seriously. But that would be a leap. Don't expect miracles.

Anyone can create any kind of faction, as long as they interact with other factions and provide positive activity to the factions forum. If you wanna create some femma fatale faction, go right ahead. Just remember, this is still based within the fictional setting of the TFF world, so just keep it realistic in that sense.
