    Favorite burger fixins

I eat at least one burger every day now that I have access to an outdoor grill and the weather is nice.

So I would like to pose a discussion topic...

What's your favorite way to eat a burger -- as it pertain's to toppings and what not (thought I'd clarify so that I wouldn't get the obvious 'with my mouth hurrf durff' reaction... don't want to feed the goblins.)

I'm asking because I want to try new flavors that I've never before experienced on the canvas of a ground beef patty on a seasame seed bun.

I'll start us off... My favorite is to melt smoked gouda on the still-cooking patty and then smother it in Stubb's barbecue sauce (possibly local to North Carolina), but any sweet barbecue sauce would do the trick.

[On the subject of local to North Carolina... have any of you had Sun Drop or Cheerwine soda? The BBQ burger goes great with either.]

Well, some could've misinterpreted your question and told you "I eat it with fork&knife" That wouldn't have been any better and "With my mouth".

I'm pretty boring when it comes to burgers. I've tried some (not many) out, but I didn't like any specials like bacon or even cheese. I like tomatoes, salad and bbq sauce on my burgers. That's about it. xP

Still, that smoked gouda sounds pretty delicious... gonna try that out one day.

I rarely eat burgers. Extremely unhealthy for you. When I do though.. I go with a fatty one. Extra bacon and ranch. Sometimes I will do a double smokehouse burger. Cheddar cheese, bacon, Budweiser BBQ sauce, and two burger patties.

Though might I recommend not eating a burger every day unless you want to have a stroke. Coming from being 400lbs. and losing 245lbs. - I've learned a lot. That my friend is the quickest way to heart disease. I'm not telling you how to live. Just watching out for you. Turkey burgers are actually the way to go.

Been doin a lot of grilling myself. I like stuff hot, so most of the crap I do to my burgers involves spicy crap. Firstly the seasoning for the meat, I use a combination of Famous Dave's rib rub, and Fatboy steak rub, and just a little bit of greek seasoning.

I'll usually grill with some cheese in the middle of the patty, habenero cheddar is my favorite for this.

I mix bacon bits in with the meat rather than using strips on top.

As for condiments, it's usually a toss up between Famous Dave's Wilbur's Revenge bbq sauce, or ghost pepper salsa.

If I'm feeling fancy, I'll marinade in a Jack Daniels marinade I used to use for steak.

    Re: Favorite burger fixins

I like a little "bite" to my burger, so I like putting horseradish sauce and jalapenos on it. Other than that, just classic patty, cheese (most anything but Swiss), lettuce, tomato and pickle for me.

EDIT: Oh crap, how did I forget ketchup??? I'm a ketchup fiend! I like having it on the side and just dipping the burger right into it.

When my folks grill burgers, they put some kind of thick-slabbed and peppery bacon on top of all the burgers and cook 'em that way. It's gooooood. :3

WOW. To quote myself just now:
[11:54:43 AM] Thomas H: Horseraddish and jalapenos?!
[11:54:56 AM] Thomas H: That is the mouth needing thirst quenching!
Anyway, I like stuff on my burger. Pretty much any topping that is available to me I will put on. Lettuce, tomato, ketchup, mustard, seasoning, barbecue sauce (though not with ketchup and mustard) mushrooms, definitely cheese. Maybe even eggs. I'm adventurous. I might even try what Dodie suggests. I'd like Dodie's burger... Bet that'd be my favorite burger... :3 Anyhoo...

I remember reading somewhere that the best burger only needed onions (cooked with the meat) and mayo. That's it, but I know a lot of people hate both onions and mayo so lol.

I just like the basic, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Mayo, Ketchup. Ranch if there is bacon on it. If I'm at In n Out I tend to add animal style to my burger sometimes. As long as the meat is done correctly I wont complain. and cheese, melt that shit son.

I mis-read the title of the topic as 'favourite bugger fixings'. And then proceeded to read every instance of 'burger' as 'bugger'. It was hilarious most of the time, if disturbing.

I'm not really that adventurous when it comes to condiments on this particular kind of food, in fact McDonalds does the condiments exactly as I like my burgers. Of course calling McDonalds 'burgers' burgers is a bit of a gross* exaggeration.

*Haha, gross. It's funny because their burgers are quite poor in quality.

Lol. I respect that. I too am an athlete. Though if only athleticism mattered in a case like that. It's unhealthy, no matter who you are. I don't think I've had a burger in over three years. All of this burger talk is making me want one.. I can't give in! LOL!

Burgers arnt neccasarily unhealthy for you. We are talking about meat, cheese and some condiments. Theres no carbs in any part of the burger besides the bread. If you're weightlifting, the fat provided by burgers can be a great asset in building. Thats why you see all those varsity jock muscleheads in movies ask girls out for a 'cheeeeseeeburger' in the 50s-60s.

My favourite burgers are doublecheeseburgers. Im especially fond of this place where I live called "Laurie Dee's" they make the greatest angus beef burgers and their whole deal is that their meat is prepared fresh everyday (recieved and ground) and any leftovers are thrown the way side. I tend to believe this because Ive never tasted anything so beautiful before. I actually cried a little when I ate it.

I didnt say he is an eating athelete.
    I said hes an athelete.
    Like a real one.
Like the people you see in the olympics or on a football feild or on UFC.
The people who need to eat 10,000+ calories a day so that they can continue doing atheletic things.

    At any rate...
Burgers are unhealthy if you spend most of your day sitting down.
They are very healthy if you are active.

I work at McDonald's so I am up to my a$$ in burgers all day. I tend to avoid them unless I'm hungry. Yesterday I had a Big Mac with nothing but sauce. I also bought some nuggets to mop up the run-off, as I ordered extra sauce.

My dad still makes the best burgers with fresh mince, onions, spices and Worcester sauce. Since my mum doesn't like beef so much, they tend to use pork mince, which is so much nicer.

What do you do? I do firefighting and MMA. I'm trying to pack on a little extra weight to feed the muscles, so I don't worry about healthy or unhealthy calories. Just calories, and a lot of them.

Wow this thread really blew up faster than I expected! I have to say, that spicey habenero cheeseburger with ghost pepper salsa sounded brutally delicious! I def want to try it some time. And about chopped bacon in the actual meat, did you know that there's a thing called a Baconburger now? If there was a burger i'd think was unhealthy, it'd be that, haha. Bacon is too delicious. I love burgers where herbs, spices, bacon, cheese and vegatable like onions are actually shaped into the patty -- it adds flavor and leaves room for more fixins! Horseradish an jalapeno... that's how I eat my tuna xD

    Re: Favorite burger fixins

When I eat my burgers I go with provolone cheese, bacon, ketchup, A1 sauce, and crystal hot sauce quite tasty.

Talking about the health factor of burgers Rowan is dead on it. Burgers are not crazy bad for you. I am 215 pounds I do MMA, run, and lift frequently. It comes down to how you prepare your burger. If you fry a burger in oil or something then smother it in cheese and assorted shit don't be upset when you get fat.

This. But then again, everyone is different. For example, I'm 155 lbs right now... pretty light. When I finished fire academy I was running less than a 7 minute mile and was about 185-195. My metabolism is like a nuclear reactor, so I don't really have to worry about what I eat... my weakness, if anything, is not eating enough!

    J. R, have you been in the cage yet? I've sparred everything from 120lb roosters to 400lb+ bearmode, been in the cage 3 times. It's hard to find a good gym to practice in though... I keep getting kicked out of em for "hitting too hard"...

Also, just ate a burger with nothing but mayo... wish i had some onions for it, but there's something about mayo when it mixes with the hot greasy juices of a burger that's friggin delicious. Bout to go for a lil jog to turn it into heart muscle lol

I keep it pretty simple. American cheese, bread and butter pickles, a nice slice of vidalia onion and some ketchup, catsup if I'm feeling frisky.

I also love that new Boars Head chipotle gouda on a burger. It's got that smoky creamy flavor that just works so well.

Guess I am not much of a burger person either....as some of the cats are. I go trhough phases when it comes to burgers. I like the ones I grill, but I have a super secret recipe for them. I do love the one at whataburger. I know it's not grilling, but they way they do their number 1's...OMG !!! I like to get that with cheese and jalapenos ! It's is the most divine, and my favorite burger on the planet ! I also like "five guys". However, since you mentioned grill I must admit I do not grill. I simply make the burgers. I leave the grilling to the men because as good of a cook I am.....I am not griller girl. ;-)

    ^^^^forgive the typos....been drinking....no burgers in sight LOL^^^^

What's the recipe??!?!?!? PM me if you have too...

Also, yeah, there's just something about grilling that I love... It's hard for me to let anyone else cook meat for me. Some things, like steaks, I love with a good line of red in the middle... other meats, like tuna steaks and salmon it's better to caramelize the fat and get a good cripsy crust of spices on it. I'm gonna turn TFF into The Food Fantasy.
