Music tastes change with age?

Well, when I was really little I absolutely idolised Britney Spears to the death, and then when I got a bit older (like about ten years old or something) I was like "Ew, dude, Britney Spears is for babies" like the good old hipster kid I thought I was. And now, if any old Britney songs come on the radio I'm like "YEAH!! ****ING CRANK THAT SHIT UP!". So yeah, I guess musical tastes do change with age really.

I liked a lot more pop when I was younger and rock music wasn't even a concept to me, whereas now it's almost opposite. I do still like pop music, but rock dominates my musical tastes a hell of a lot more.

with age, comes many things. Things such as knowledge, experience, wiseness, reason and maturity. With all of these things taken into account, you would tend to anaylse why you like something more and eventually wont be able to find the interest in it you once had. Which is why nostalgia is a powerful emotional, it disreguards all of those things and lets you enjoy something just because you listened to it at a particular moment in your life.

I used to listen to a lot of smashing pumpkins (obsessed fan) and red hot chili peppers. Then I moved onto metal. Bands such as Slayer, Arch enemy and cannibal corpse. Then when I was about 15, I began listening to emo. I guess it was stuff I was relating to that gave me an interest in the music. The metal because I wanted to be different (i still like slayer and some bands even now) and emo because I felt I could relate. That was before I manned up and realised I was being a little bitch. Then directly after that , can you guess? It was 'hardcore', now being my most hated of genres. The idea that you can be tough and sensitive at the same time and being able to express that with public stupid teenage angst/clothing. 90 percent of songs ive heard all follow the same theme

"Ill see you when the sun sets" "ill devour your heart" "the soul of the shark" "theres blood in the water" "my hearts a raging fire" etc.

I know thats not the best example, but if you imagine those lyrics with a repetitive drop c tuning strumming open but to different tempos, you might understand what I mean.

Now im almost 21. Ive been listening to a lot of piano compositions and ambient music. I listen to almost anything as long as it sounds good to me. my playlist would now consist of

Red hot chili peppers
Nesian Mystik (polynesian hip hop group)
FF/Persona soundtracks
monorail
Sky eats Airplane
Grips n Tonic (aussie hip hop/rap duo)
Bon jovi
and various other hit songs of the 80s and 90s.
maybe a LITTLE bit of dubstep because I find the producing to be top notch with a few artists. I just dont like admitting it because I hate the crowd accosiated with it.

But in the end, I guess thats what its all about. If you care about being accosiated with it. Id love to say I dont care, but thats part of what got me to this point. I didnt like hardcore because once I noticed how people changed, my perception of the music also changed. So with age I think people may realise this and just listen to whatever makes them happy. Notice how when you were younger you would more than likely stick to one genre and have friends who enjoyed the same. Maybe that wasnt what it was like for you, but for me music was a big part of growing up.

Only real changes to my music over the years have been me discovering more bands as time goes by. I still listen to pretty much everything I always have, pretty much any rock or metal from the late 60s to now. I don't forsee that ever changing.
