Best & Worst Films of 2012

Same shit as last year and year before that.

    Best

The Intouchables - I'm well aware this movie came out in 2011, albeit on the border of 2012, 2012 being the year it first apeared in cinemas here. It instantly became one of my favorite European films. It's about a quadriplegic and his caretaker who happens to be a troubled young man from a rough neighborhood. Their interaction is what makes this film special. It has a certain charm to it, due to it's nature, being both sad and funny, it's bound to touch even the manliest men among us, and seeing it's based on true story makes it that much better.

    way behind...

21 Jump Street - last comedy I enjoyed this much was "Don't Be a Menace...", you could argue it's a typical teenage/highschool comedy and you wouldn't be far off, nevertheless it has at least doznen of "laugh out loud" scenes.

Brave - Pixar, nuff said. Seriously though, it's charming, funny, beautiful, great to see with a little brother or sister.

Looper - I really apreciate all the effort to make Joseph Gordon-Levitt look as a younger Bruce Willis, and all those little details. The premise was pretty great, I feel it got a lot weaker near the end, it did however end pretty strong.

The Avengers - I was bit skeptical at first as to how exactly will Joss Whedon cram this many superheroes and make it work, luckily it turned out better than I expected. It really feels like a comic book, and while the story may not be the very best, action, humor, characters and their interaction make up for it.

    Worst

Resident Evil: Retribution - For those wondering why I saw this movie, well, I feelt like losing two hours of my life, though mostly to have something to bitch about. You know when something's bad and you think it can't be any worse, but it does, well, this film's even worse than that. It's one huge porn parody of Resident Evil, save for porn. Terible acting, god awful story that has nothing to do with games (as if it had any before), some impresive CGI, although most of it looks fake... I can't bad mouth this film enough, there is one positive thing though, one of the songs played through out the film.

Well, I just got back from seeing Les Misérables, and that is probably my favorite movie of the year. Maybe I shouldn't be deciding that right after seeing it, whilst it's fresh in my mind and everything else isn't, but to me, this was the most real movie I've seen all year. The more faithful adaptation in comparison to the Hobbit, better drama than anything I've seen all year, the best story, the most realized characters. I loved the way the movie told this story, the way the actors portrayed their characters, etc. The singing wasn't always amazing, but it was heartfelt. And I knew going in that certain songs were gonna rip my heart out, and I was misty-eyed pretty much the entire movie. My mom also loves this, and I saw it with her, my dad, and my brother.

The Hobbit was also good-I love that I get to see my favorite book on the big screen, love that I get to see Gandalf again, love that I get to hear certain lines directly from the book up on the big screen, thought the comedy in it was pretty good-but I wasn't impressed with the drama PJ tried to add to the story. Or some of the huge changes that changed the story... It was no Fellowship of the Ring. It was still very good though.

The Dark Knight Rises was a fitting end to the Dark Knight Trilogy. Some of the story was convoluted, but the action was fun, the drama was good, the characters were interesting, etc. Prometheus was better than a lot of people made it out to be; a lot of interesting ideas, and Michael Fassbender was great. The movie wasn't without its problems, but I felt the pros outweighed the cons by a lot.

I also liked The Avengers, John Carter, Brave, Wreck it Ralph, The Hunger Games, though they weren't as good as the above.

Project X... why did I see that? My brother wanted me to, I guess. It was alright-probably better than what I expected-but it was probably my second to least favorite movie I saw this year. Ted is probably my least favorite. It was better than I want to give it credit for, but it still wasn't as funny or good as a lot of people made it out to be. I don't remember laughing often (although "LOOK WHAT JESUS DID!" got me, I have to admit) and the story was generic. Also... Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter was pretty bad. In its defense, it was supposed to be, and you were supposed enjoy how ridiculous and over the top it was, but I regret that it wasn't more faithful to the book, as the book was amazing. Especially since the author of the book wrote the screenplay.

Still need to see Lincoln and Moonrise Kingdom. Don't remember what else I saw this year. This response is pretty damn lazy, sorry. Anyhoo...

    Wuv, Yer Mom

EDIT: Saw Lincoln today, and it was great. The first bit (after the very beginning where the soldiers came over and were talking to Lincoln) had me worried because it was kinda dry and boring, the colors were all dull, and there was no music, but it drew me in after that. Thought Daniel Day Lewis was a very good Lincoln, thought Tommy Lee Jones was great too (well, everyone was really good actually). It's an accomplishment that a movie about politics was that compelling. So, include Lincoln in my "Greats" of this year. Anyhoo...

    Great
The Dark Knight Rises - Christopher Nolan, does anything else need to be said? This is probably #2 or #3 in my book of the series. I was a little disappointed that it follows the same formula of the first two. But a great movie nonetheless.
Cloud Atlas - Not sure why this movie got such bad reviews from critics. I loved this show, music was good, acting was good. You didn't really have a lot of time to not pay attention, if you went to the bathroom or something you might have gotten lost in the mix.
The Hobbit - Sure its a little boring in the first hour and a little more light-hearted than the LOTR, but it was a good watch. I enjoyed every second of it. One negative thing is it seems they reused a lot of the music from LOTR, love those soundtracks, but was expecting some more original content.

    Good
The Hunger Games - I really was expecting more, so many people were hyping this movie and I thought it was a pretty good movie. Something a little original for once, but no notable actors and actresses. At least none that made any impression on me.
Prometheus - I was really pissed off when I first saw this movie. I walked out just aggravated, but I cooled off and after watching the deleted scenes, I'm a little more okay with this movie.

    Bad
The Campaign - I hate Will Ferrel to begin with, but my friends love him. Nothing noteworthy in this film. The commercials are just about the only funny parts. I hate this type of humor.
Flight - I really like Denzel Washington, but I'm not a fan of most of the movies he has been in. This is no exception. Nothing notable about this movie, except for maybe the heartwarming ending.

Still need to see Les Mis, Lincoln, Wreck it Ralph.
