Honestly I wouldn't mind a game where literally they say we based a lot of our ideas off of 7 or 8. I wouldn't mind it but that's kinda not what they do. One reason why I think 7 and 8 were really epic was the graphics. 6 -> 7 was crazy, SNES to PS1 wow. Then you look at 7 -> 8 and it's like holy shit they look like normal real people.

Dont forget ff9. The culimination of everything great about the FF series. I think its more realistic they aim at creating an FF like that.

I do agree with you, but I still don't hear as much as about 9 then I do with 7 and 8.

FF8's visuals weren't as awe inspiring to me, mostly because of the release of Parasite Eve before it (which had similar quality for the characters). Yes I love when we have shiny new graphics and that certainly impressed me with XIII, but what impresses you initially, and what keeps you playing are not generally the same thing. I can't remember the last game I kept playing just because it had awesome graphics.

You're not getting what I was meaning by the visuals. Look at 6, then look at 7. Now look at 7 and look at 8. They changed so much. There are people who only stuck to FF games.

That's so funny.

I picked up Parasite Eve at the video store specifically because of the box art and then the graphics & story impressed me. I knew nothing about Square or Final Fantasy yet.

The cut scenes were on the same level quality wise, but FF8's in-game graphics are a bit better than PE's. Not by much, but they are. I think the characters in 8 are more in proportion/a bit taller than Aya and everyone else in PE.
