FFVIII Help Thread

I think a good way to beat ultramercia is to use Aura on everyone so they can use their limit breaks (especially Squall and Zell because their limit breaks can do a lot of damage) Then use a holy war or use a hero on everyone so that they are invincible. Then use your limit breaks. And then repeat until you win. If not you can use Eden which does a lot of damage if I remember right. I also think that meltdown of Doomtrain works well because it drops her vitality. You could also get everyone to have good stats so you can use them all to fight her. I'm not really sure how you can get specific people to fight her or have her get rid of certain people. I forgot because I haven't played in such a long time.:lol: I would stick with the limit breaks. They worked well for me. She really isn't that tough compared to Omega Weapon or other Final Fantasy bosses.

For beating Ultimecia, I depended on Squall as the muslce (Lionheart Owns), another person as a "Medic" and another person as a "magician". While Squall would pound away with Physical attacks, the medic would keep everyone alive and the mage would make sure that any effects on the other 2 people would be removed.

I had a lot of trouble beating Ultimecia as well. I had Squall, Rinoa and Zell in my party who were level 100. I know it isn't necessary to level up but I did anyway. I had a lot of Aura magic on me thanks to the Island Closest to Heaven and Hell. I also had one person as a healer and the other two were attackers.

I kept using Aura on all of the characters and kept dishing out limit breaks to them. Lionheart is obviously the best one to use because of how much damage it makes. The only bad thing about that is Squall chooses his limit breaks randomly so you may not get to use Lionheart very much. Just heal your party whenever you have to maybe cast Protect or Shell on your party. The battle goes on for a very long time in my opinion, just be careful with what you do. Good luck. :)

I had Squall as the brawn, Irvine as the healer and Zell as the backup when I went in. The others I did as much as I could with (all of them did between 1000 + 7000 damage, with Squall as muh 9999 exception), but didn't bother reviving.
Smash her with Lionheart and Duel, keep the other two alive ... yeah. Worked for me.
Didn't bother with Hero or Holy Wars. Didn't bother with support magic. Didn't bother with anything other than Aura, Recover, Treatment and Revive. Works for me. *Shrugs*

Hello I have been searching for a place where I can ask all my qeustions too about FF8!!! Ok ill get to the point. First off my Qeuzacotl didn't learn card mod in the begginning and now he cant learn it. Am I screwed? Is there some way to delete an ability or something? My second question is how do I get to Ultima? I have beaten Bahamut and I know your supposed to go back to the deap sea lab. But my idiots wont go down. So if you could help that would be great.

Yes GFs can forget abilities by using Amnesia Greens. You can probably buy those in Esther or I think you can also buy them in Timber. This would only be a problem if you taught Quezacotl an ability. If you didn't you probably didn't learn card yet.:)

There are a lot of places you can get Ultima. You can get Ultima from Shumi Village which is located very far north.(It costs 5000 Gil) You can also get Ultima from hidden draw points on the Islands closest to Heaven and Hell along with a lot of other rare magic. Finally you can draw Ultima from Ultima Weapon which is located in the Deep Sea Research Center.(If you are into cards you can refine Ultimas from Ultima Stones which you can card mod from the Ultima Weapon Card once you get card mod.:lol:)

I'm not quite sure why you can't go into the Deep Lab Research Center. Maybe you should just try again. This was never a problem for me.

OK, after you kick Bahamut's butt, you go out into the world map, muck arouond a bit, visit Ragnarok's bridge and then head back to the Deep Sea Research Center. Should be some big plant in the middle where that blue pillar was. Climb down it. Make sure you have Zell in your party first. You'll get some Steam Pressure or something. Use the minimum possible on each level. Then get Zell to bust open the door when you see this big machine, instead of using your Steam Pressures. You'll hafta fight lots of monsters, Enc None or no. And you can't escape either. Kick their butts, and get down to Ultima. Kick its butt, and you're home free. DRAW EDEN!!

Hmm...i remember knocking down the door without zell....and if you were to forget to draw Eden, you could always draw it from one of the bosses(Can't remember which..) in ultimecia's castle...

Yeah, you can, but you use the Steam Pressures that you need later on to get to Ultima Weapon. So you need Zell. ;)
It's the Tiamat you can draw it from. Up the stairs, past the Sphinxaur, down the chandelier, through the door, therough the next door, up the stairs to the right, up the tower, jump onto the pendulum, get across, then it's through the door. Draw from it, kick it's butt, and you've got Eden and an ability.

Yea. I tought him an ability and didn't learn card until late in the game because I didn't think it was for anything good. So he learned max abilities and learned card for like his last one. Come to find out thats what you need to get card mod sigh. It was funny because everyones talking about card modding and what you can get from cards and I'm thinking how the crap do you card mod??? I must be an idiot! Because everyones talking about it like its something easy. Anywhoo I was talking about how to get to Ultima weapon lol but thanks for the info where Ultima magic is. I usually just buy it from Shumi Village. I think I'm at a part where it won't let me though because I have been to the Ragnarok bridge and done everything I am supposed to but it still wont let me. Im at the part where Laguna is on the ship and I'm supposed to be going to fight Seifer.

Not to be random but Card Mod is super useful at an early stage. You should get it as soon as possible.

That is a good question. I'll give you the answer. ;)

First you have to go to the Centra Ruins. (Place where you get Odin.) I would suggest doing this after you get Odin. While you are there you have to defeat approximately 20 Tonberrys. If you need help defeating Tonberrys just ask.:) Then after you defeat the Tonberrys, the Tonberry King will appear. (Immediatly after the battle. You won't exit the battle.) Be prepared to fight. Tonberry King can be tough. If you need help with him just ask again. Once you defeat him he is all yours.:cool:

Ok. So Tonberry King is pretty tough. First of all you can't use Diablos like you could for all the regular Tonberrys.:( So really this GFs attacks aren't much more powerful than regular Tonberrys, but he is much faster. If he is too fast for you, you might want to cast haste on your party. Also Protect is good for lowering the damage he does. Also this GF has great magic for you to draw. He has Death Full-Life and Curaga. (If you are at a high enough level.) So healing should be a breeze. If someone dies revive with Full-Life, and if someone is hurt use Curaga. Also I would suggest stocking up on some Full-Lifes. They can increase your stats a bit and they are rare to come by. So really this fight will just take a long time. Use your GFs and if you get a Limit Break those are great too. Yes I believe this battle took me a long time! If you feel you are not strong enough yet, you can wait until later in the game when your GFs are more compatible and are stronger. I hope this helps.;)

just go to the under left edge of the card if I remember right

I had troubles finding her house the first time I played as well, I don't know how long it took me to find her house but I know it too too long! It's around the bottom left hand corner of the map, well close enough anyway.

Simply get as many thunder elemental magics junctioned to your elemental defense as possible. piece of cake.

I didn't find that battle very difficult which is surprising! I would recommend casting shell and protect on your party. Just hit her with limit breaks or use Leviathan and Diablos and you should be able to take her down pretty easily. Use potions or cure spells if you have to as well.

I hope that helps! Don't use Carbuncle lol, he's not really effective.

Not really a method I'd recommend, but first time I took her on, I tanked up Squall with super HP and strength Made him the pruimary attacker. Regardless of what is happening, he always attacks.

Have a second character as a healer, dishing out Cura's and Curaga's. Might be agood idea to stock up on items if your struggeling.

Then have the third charcter switching between healing and attack. But when you can, throw out some support magic, like your doubles, shells,haste etc... And if you've managed to scrounge any, use Aura on Squall ASAP, before she casts her big nasty limit break killing move.

It usually works... for any boss. But it might take a bit longer.

Thanks but it worked for me.

She will probably cast reflect on herself so that means any spells you use on her will just be reflected back to you so don't use any black magic on her. The only spell that doesn't reflect back is Meltdown so if you have any of that, you might want to use it on her.

I do agree about the above posters thing about having a character mainly for healing, that could be really handy if she is dealing serious damage to your party. If she isn't then just keep using Diablos (He's really handy!) or limit breaks and it should be over in no time. Do not use Carbuncle because if you do, your cure spells with be reflected on to her and it's just bad! :lol:

im trying to upgrade all the characters, and i need adamantoise. i lost my card in a game and well, can't seem to find an adamanatoise on long horn island for the life of me. any ideas?

Try to win back the card, 'cos you don't get just one piece from it, 10 pieces is pretty damn usueful, and it'll probbaly take you longer to get 10 pieces fighting than to win it back.
Check Minotaur on your card list and it'll tell you to whom you lost it.

I think you can find them around the beaches of Dollet aswell.

yeah,Raines is right,i used up the admantine when i had it and i had a hell of a time trying to get it from the admantoise,if you do it by fighting,you need diablo's mug and
i belive bahamuts rare item ability

Absolutely wrong!! Adamantoise drops Adamantine, When you mug this monster you will receive Orihalcon ( GF learns Vit+40% ability ), This item (Orihalcon) is really useful but you don't need it to upgrade any of your weapons...

Don't use Mug with this monster if you want to get Adamantine!

Its ok buddy, I just want to mention that Bahamut's Rare Item ability is not necessary ;! when you want receive Adamantine..BUT!

Each Adamantoise drops 1 Adamantine for sure, Rare Item ability increases your chances
to receive 2 Adamantines from one Adamantoise.
