During the Atlus and Persona event in the Tokyo Game Show, Atlus informed fans that they were delaying the release of Persona 5. Originally, Persona 5 was announced for a Winter 2015 release in Japan and other regions. However, they've now pushed the Japanese release into the Summer of 2016 with a North American and European release unknown, but likely Summer if they are keeping with their intent to release them close.
The director gave a special message to the fans informing them of their reasoning for the delay. He said that the game was largely already finished and put together, but they did not want to release it in the current state that it was in. They wanted more time to make sure the game is what the fans are expecting, likely meaning more polish and iteration time on the design and content. He also said that they did not want to release a small game and get it out on date. He wanted it to be a full content game.
They also brought a new trailer with them showing off more of the combat and in-game environments along with some animated cutscenes.
