SoulCalibur 5 - TGS 2011 Trailer - YouTube
New one, it looks good new characters and some old ones but really can the story be any different than it was from the first, they could have refreshed it a bit I laughed when they said that the power of the swords hadn't been fully extinguished.
I never played 4 so I don't know how much the style has changed from 4 to 5.

So, Astaroth has taken the role of Nightmare from what was seen in the footage. In this game I am hoping for a better story mode; SCIV's was plain horrible. Every character following the same path, it wasn't as diverse as the previous 2 entries. And the endings were horrendous for a game that was supposed to close the story, at the time. Disappointed I was with IV.
Ok, so after looking at the wiki page for this game Nightmare is returning... along with Siegfried. God damn it. With this game and in general I wish fighting games would focus on their stories like BlazBlue along with their gameplay. Make definitive endings for that game in the game instead of having to wait for the next installment.
I do need some fighting games for my PS3.
Main series FFs Beaten - FF: 4x, FFII: 3x, FFIII: 3x, FFIV: 3x, FFV: 3x, FFVI: 4x, FFVII: 5x, FFVIII: 5x, FFIX: 3x, FFX: 4x, FFXII: 3x, FFXIII: 2x, FFXV: 2x
I haven't checked out any footage yet, I'm a big fan of the series and hoping for a bit more as far as the single player goes. 2 & 3 were good for me, interesting, challenging and enjoyable but I didn't enjoy the tower so much. It's just been done, a survival going down and multiple battle rise.
Wonder who the alternate characters will be in this installment?
I'm going to wait and see if a demo comes out. I like Soul Calibur, but I'm not a huge fighting game fan. If I like the demo, I might pick it up.
That said, I played Soul Calibur IV to death trying to unlock everything, and really enjoyed it. I was a little disappointed with the stories, feeling like they were barely long enough, and 60% of the story was in text that was too small to read on my screen anyway.
Looks nice. Will it have any special guest characters like SC2 had? (I didn't get to play 3 and 4 much, so I don't know how those were)
I remember my brother always kicked my ass when he'd choose both Mitsurugi and that drunken fat dude, whatever his name is.
Currently Playing: Final Fantasy
Up Next: Final Fantasy II
I'm a longtime Soul fan (all the way from Soul Blade, memories haha) so naturally I'm looking foward to this. I hope it's better than SCIV, which I was disappointed with. The stories were waaay too short and were not up to the standard SCII was.
I am hoping for guest characters though. My main in SCIV, funnily enough, was Darth Vader, so I hope they get some good ones. As long as it's not Kratos again I will be happy.
EDIT* OK, I got my wish for guest characters, but this one is a little bit more special...
That's right, EZIO AUDITORE DA FIRENZE is in!
I am looking foward to this game a HELL of a lot more now.

I picked this game up, and have been playing the shit out of it. The story mode was very good, but as I feared when I heard about this game it was very short. So far I am very good with most of the style's used on this game. I hate that they made Ivy's easy to use on this game, now every fag is using it and spamming online. Best style I have used is the devil jin style, raping face with it as we speak.
Played it a bit last night at a friend's house. Think I definitely like it better than 4 already, which I didn't really care for for some reason. Nightmare and Astaroth seem decidedly faster. Natsu is a fuckin' speed demon. Think my favorite I played was Yoshimitsu, however (who has been a staple for me anyway.) Like all the new designs for the characters. Sophitia's children seem like fun characters, and the story mode, from what I saw, makes me like their personalities (though Patroklos is a real smug shit, haha.)
Like that Lizard Man's conscience is finally restored, although they still have him as this evil being, even though human Aeon was a Holy Warrior like Sophitia. Guess they're hellbent on keeping him a villain, which disappoints me; I think he has a lot more potential as a fallen hero trying to redeem himself, a la Siegfried.
So yeah; if I somehow have money, I might pick this up, myself. Anyhoo...

Its funny how IV has the worst story but probably the best gameplay. Other than the star wars characters being ridiculously overpowered.
I honestly haven't played soul caliber much since I'm not a huge fan of the fighting genre, but from what I've read its received a bit of bashing from the reviewers.

So anyone beat this bastard yet?
...I was able to beat him one round out of three, every once in a while. This Yoshimitsu is either damned good, or the difficulty wasn't that high yet, this being a test play or something. Because I swear, this asshole should've been illogically blocking like 90% more of Yoshi's attacks and starting into his uppercut, uppercut, uppercut juggle thing. Neither of my two friends who tried could beat him either.
Also, I think I like using Aeon, Yoshimitsu, and Tira (medieval Harley Quinn, heh) best. Anyhoo...

EDIT: Of course, we're probably not world beaters, either.
While I didn't hate IV. I'm relecutant to puick up V. Then again after III the series started to go down hill.
So much content, And I LOVED chronicles of the sword mode. I never managed to beat strife though. sadly.
Still I may pick it up anyway just because of Ezio.

And then just like that i'm gone again.
I thought the main character was quite a jerk. lol Still couldn't quite like him even after his resolve. ^o^;; haha Side note, he was voiced by Yuri Lowenthal (Dr. Stiles in Trauma Center, Yosuke in Persona 4, Prince of Persia, etc).

I was really looking forward to this game, but the only thing I really enjoyed was the character creation. The roster has practically been cut in half, they remake 2 characters with styles from older games, and there are 3 mimic fighters. I was trying really, really hard to love it, really I was, but the new at least half of the new characters annoy me to no end, and the my favorite among the returning characters got turned into a copy-cat fighter. The only people I ever cared to go through arcade mode with were my Custom Characters. Story mode was good though, and I will admit that I'm fond Potroklos and Pyrrha, just disappointing that they were 2 of the only new additions I liked at all.
You'll have your reward for finding me, and don't think of running off without collecting. My shot is faster, or my names not Balthier.
