Oh not a remake? Don't care.
This is the one Zelda game I want a remake for. The Dark World is so cool.
Nintendo is readying a new The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past game for 3DS.
While still-to-be-titled overseas, the Japanese version is called The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 2. The game aims to reinvigorate A Link to the Past‘s 2D world with a new sense of height and volume. Link can now utilize different heights in dungeons to solve puzzles, and turn into a drawing to change the viewpoint and move within the walls.
The game features a brand new story along with new Dungeons and is set in A Link to the Past‘s world, but is not a remake.
The new Zelda will be available this holiday on 3DS.

Best news ever. Nintendo is a clever girl and knows what she's doing. Link to the Past was one of the most prominent and powerful Zelda games ever and Nintendo wants to keep it rolling, so to speak. It is running out of ideas with it's Wii U interactive family fun shenanigans, is losing lot's of sales, with 3DS probably the only thing that's keeping it floating. Nintendo needs a hit, get the audience back and this seems to be it. Clever girl, indeed.
Thankyou Odin. I was gobsmacked at how little coverage n attention this news has received. I almost cried but screamed instead when I watched its announcement on Nintendo Direct(Japan). This a surprising announcement indeed but really I concur, BEST. NEWS. EVER!!! This(n Project Zwei) has made my year (n E3 hasnt even arrived yet)
From what was shown, the landscape looks exactly as how I remember it albeit in 3D, the trees, Links house n the surrounding area, the third dungeon, Moldorm n green chus or ChuChu’s as they later were called, with which I happen to notice in the gameplay footage Link freely swinging at the annoying critter. Back in the A Link to the Past days you couldn’t kill them by simply swinging your sword at it. It would electrocute you. Plus the magic meter appears to recharge over time. The hammer n the painting uses the magic meter makes me think bout a stamina meter in there too likely those actions just utilise magic.l find the art style visually appealing its lot more colourful, brighter n much like Spirit Tracks and Phantom Hourglass I couldnt get enough of the puzzles with the gameplay mechanics yes I loved the stylus driven movements for the puzzles but in this game, the attacks are mapped to buttons and movement is controlled via the circle pad. The picture mechanic will definitely open some new possibilties for puzzles, much like the shrinking did for Zelda Minish Cap.
Also I would much rather have a new game then a remake.
A Link To The Past is not only my favourite Zelda game. Its one of my favourite games of all time.
Cannot friggen wait for this.
Thankyou Nintendo.
Over the years most fans (that I at least know and talk to) aren't that excited about the DS and handheld games. Most fans want a full 3D adventure now even those Handheld versions are just updated versions of the older Zelda games which is cool. But I know most of my friends want a new full on 3D third person view Zelda, not another top down handheld. Still can't wait...I mainly want to see the Dark World with these new graphics.

You make it sound like a bad thing. In this case the Zelda franchise is still very popular n is a huge seller for Nintendo. Straying too far from its roots would anger its longstanding fanbase including myself, I like a little change but not too much so long as I still feels like a Zelda game. I bought the WiiU just for Zelda n Im aware ppl will now do the same in buying the 3DS. But new story, new dungeons set in the same world its still a new game, a sequel at that.
"New story"... seriously? Almost every Zelda game so far has nearly indentical story that can be summed up in tops two sentences. I don't want Nintendo to revamp the entire damn thing either, though I wouldn't mind seeing a deep story for a change and characters with actual personality, flesh out the lore, Gorons and Zoras would benefit greatly from it instead of just being there.

and the moment Nintendo changes Zelda into having deep story and characters that talk and have personalities is when you'll be like "they should have stuck to the normal Zelda format." I honestly can't imagine a Zelda game with people talking and what not.

Lol I agree with you completely storywise and characterwise. In playing almost every Zelda game those have been my exact thoughts but..XD that doesnt get in the way of me still loving n enjoying every one! The gameplay, puzzles, exploration, the quirky, strange NPCs n the sense of adventure I get overrides the lack of story n character depth..so I just try to source that satisfaction elsewhere from other games. Im fine with the series so far they havent done anything drastic to the series so much as to piss me the hell off like SE with FF. I felt their attempts to try n explore the relationship between Link n Zelda in more depth in Skyward Sword was *fart*..The lack of story anD character depth doesnt bother me but I know its present. Haha Im one of the Zelda fans that are happy for the Gorons n Zoras just being there! Give it 2 more console titles n I might just be voicing the same concerns.

Deep story, characters with actual personality, rich lore, all enveloped in fun and addictive Zelda gameplay we all know and love... yea, I would definitely beg Nintendo to go back.
No one mentioned voice acting, great story and character personality can be carved via mere text.
I love Zelda for it's gameplay, but after almost three decades of exact same shit and seeing what action adventure games are capable of (Batman Arkham Asylum/City & Assassins Creed 2 most noticeably) gameplay alone isn't enough for me anymore.

I too am excited for this ALTTP sequel, I was just too lazy to reply when a thread was made here lol. When I watched the gameplay I said this: "Yep, that's the Zelda game I know and love."
Personally I am more excited for earthbound but this is good too

I loved ALTTP for it's secrets and challenges. It'll be awesome to take on new challenges and other things ALTTP did so well. And as others correctly put it, Zeldas aren't for the story, but for the action. And I also think 2D top view Zeldas can offer more difficulty because more things can happen at a time on the screen, which you can see and react to. 2D is where it's at. 3D Zeldas are more for casual, slower paced games. 2D is always more intense. At least from my memory of Zeldas.
