    Favorite Zelda games

If theres another thread about this topic, remove it. But anyway, taking a look at one of the greatest action rpg series around, which zelda games did you really like out of the series? and which one did you dislike?

    My favorite zeldas are:

Zelda - It was the first game around and its pretty fun to play and challenging too.

Zelda II - I liked the sidescrolling aspect and how you got different spells and abilities that help you get past certain obstacles.

A Link to the Past - This game was a phenomenon. I liked the different locations in the games and this turns out to be my top favorite. I like the different tools you get, the game music, and I liked the travelling between 2 worlds.

Link's Awakening - It was pretty fun to play, I liked assigning items to 2 different buttons and the gameplay was pretty good.

Majora's Mask - This game took a pretty neat approach where it didn't involve rescuing zelda and gave an entirely different storyline. My favorite was collecting the different masks (especially the optional ones), liked the environments, and the music was good too.

Wind Waker - I liked the battle controls, it was really fluid, loved the music, and sailing was fun (got tedious at times) but still was enjoyable.

Twilight Princess - This one was great, again, I loved the battle controls, I loved the environment, the musical score, and the items were nice to get, and I like how this takes longer to play than other zeldas.

    Games I disliked:

Every other GB zelda title after Link's Awakening (except ALTTP) - Didn't really like them all that much. I did like Minish Cap for awhile but its just not as good as the other ones. Oracle of Seasons/Ages were ok but I couldn't get into them.

Ocarina of Time - It was a fun game to be fair, but I don't really care for the storyline and the dungeons were laughable to the point even a 6 year old could complete them. Master Quest did fix that but I just didn't like this game as much as other titles.

Four Swords/ Four Swords Adventures - This was a fun concept but I didn't really care for this title either, I like how you can play with other people to get through different obstacles but its not my cup of tea.

    Re: Favorite Zelda games

My favourite is the obvious one. Ocarina Of Time. It was the pinnacle of Nintendo gaming in the 90's, hands down. While I never used to own the game, I used to play it round my friend's house all the time, and I loved it. I wished I had an N64, but of course, I was only 8 at the time, and I had just got my PS1, so it was that and nothing else. But yeah, it is a great game.

I also like Phantom Hourglass. I spent hours on end on that game. I still haven't completed it (and as far as I know, nowhere near either), but it's still a fantastic game. Best Zelda game of the 2000's.

I like most of them, OOT cause of what happens.

I really enjoyed Oracle of Ages and Seasons, those 2 titles have a great story and great adventure.

I dunno Sabin, Twilight Princess was by far the easiest Zelda game I have ever played, the only boss fight that was great was all Ganondorf fights which are at the end of the game. The dungeons were a joke and had no challenge what so ever, the only dungeon I actually liked ironically was the Water Temple, since I hate OOT water Temple and MM water temple. TP just looked good.

My favorite was the OoT. I loved it. It was the first Zelda game I ever played all the way through.

Majora's Mask was weird. I enjoyed playing it, but it was very weird throughout most of the game.

    Re: Favorite Zelda games

Definitely Link's Awakening even though it's not the best one I played. It was my first game in Zelda series, though there's more behind it than nostalgia, the game itself means the world to me as it was a present from my best friend who died in a terrible car accident. God knows how many times I've beaten it so far, I swear I could do it blindfolded.

The one I consider to be the best though, is Ocarina of Time. First time I saw Zelda game that has a "meaningful" story. I like the other entries in GB era also, Oracle of Ages/Seasons were fun, especially Minish Cap in which for the first time I saw Vaati, finally a fresh change after Ganon who became tedious I'll have to admit. The first Zelda on NES was good, I should probably give it more credit as it inspired many great games later on including Final Fantasy.

Majora Mask and Link to the Past were good also, great in fact, I appreciate darker approach of Majora Mask, Link to the Past was great all around. Phantom Hourglass was also a decent game, new features were certainly nice.

Now when I look at my post I realize that I enjoyed playing every game in the series, I have yet to dislike a Zelda game, which is amazing as every game is almost the same, but still haven't became tedious. With that said I think Zelda can be even better, if Miyamoto would put more effort in story department that is.

Also Sabin, Zelda is pure example of action adventure game, it has nothing to do with RPG.

Its of the same genre: fighting monsters, exploring dungeons, getting items, npcs to talk to, and a deep storyline. I don't see it not being one.

Also Loaf: The dungeons in OoT take very little effort and you can easily cut corners compared to TP. TP may have had some easy dungeons but OoT takes the cake in a very easy difficulty unless you were doing the uber challenge or 3 heart challenge. Otherwise, its a walk in the park.

Yeah but sadly Sabin RPGs have been labeled to have lvling and what not. Zelda has always been an Action Adventure.

I know OOT dungeons are easier, OOT is about story.

It has nothing to do with environment and fighting monsters, the main point of RPG games is character growth and development, something that Zelda lacks.

I felt the opposite actually. After playing Twilight Princess, I went back to Ocarina of Time and felt that the dungeon design was quite simple and straightforward by comparison. I've never understood why people found the Water Temple difficult.

Obviously I like Ocarina of Time the best, so I won't talk about that. I seem to be a minority, but I very much enjoyed Twilight Princess. I can't realistically defend that it wasn't much different from the standard Zelda formula, but it expressed that formula so flawlessly. In my opinion at least. It probably would be my favourite Zelda if it weren't for the "wow" factor that Ocarina of Time had in its 'newity'.

Windwaker was pretty fun too. I liked the whole island exploration aspect of it. Reminded me of playing Pirates.

Yeah, my bad, its action adventure. It shows it as that on the nintendo website. I got confused from seeing other people label the game as an rpg.

About OoT, I used to like it but I just don't care for the storyline in it anymore. Its not engaging to me which is what I stated before. A Link to the Past was something that was more engaging each time I played. It never got old and the dungeons kept on being challenges even if I knew my way around.

You need to watch a speed run, it makes those dungeons look like jokes. Like Dungeon 6 in the Dark World, I can do that right after completing Dungeon one, I don't need a hookshot to get across the beginning like you normally do.

I guess I enjoy the OOT story more is because I follow the timeline theories since well Nintendo hasn't actually relieved any sort of time line if there really is one.

Even though you're right about it not being an RPG(except for Zelda 2, which was an action/side scroller/RPG) this is general gaming, so it's not just RPG's

They weren't telling him he can't post about Zelda because it's not an RPG, they were just saying that it isn't an RPG because he made the claim that it was.

My favorite Zelda... Not really sure. Really liked LttP, LA, OoT, WW, and TP when I played them. My choice may be a rather strange one that few people would agree with, however: Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. It is the first Zelda game that we owned, and so it holds the most memories for me. And it hasn't gotten old, like LttP has (I played that one to death during grade school.) Or maybe it's just the return to the retro gaming experience that it gives me. Anyhoo...

Ocarina of Time was the first Zelda game I played. So somewhere inside that will always be special to me. But A Link to the Past is really more of a enjoyable game. I even really like the first Zelda. So you see... I can't exactly pick ><

The one I played the most over and over till I got everything there was to get was Zelda and ALttP. Of course I played ALttP over more times then I can remember.

    Majora's Mask.
Ocarina of Time held the spot for years for me, but sometime fairly recently MM started grabbing hold harder. I love the story, mask abilities, the feel of rolling around as a Goron...

The replayability is unmatched for me.

    Re: Favorite Zelda games

I liked a lot of them actually, but my top two faves are Ocarina of Time and WindWaker.

I played the hell out of OoT when it came out, and even quite a while afterward too (I'm talking YEARS afterward ). I thought it was just really fun, and really immersive because I just loved the world it created so much. Also, OoT is pretty special to me, because it was one of the games that my brothers and I put our money together to get.

WindWaker I thought was really cute and interesting, and I liked sailing out on the open sea. It could have gotten tedious for some, but I was really into the music that played while out on the water. Also, I liked how Ganondorf got sympathetic reasons for his motives. Made him more of a fleshed-out character than just simply being an evil guy who wanted power.

Can't say that there were really any Zelda games that I just outright disliked.

I have yet to play Windwaker but it is one my Top5 priority list of games I need to play/get. My friend says it's probably the biggest Zelda game ever.

    Re: Favorite Zelda games

My favorite for the longest time has been A Link to the Past. The only problem I actually have with that game is its length. It's way too short.

I can't actually say it'd still be my favorite though. I haven't finished Twilight Princess, and I do like most of what I've played of it. I also haven't played more than the very beginning of Wind Waker, but the gameplay on it was good from what I experienced. The storyline also seemed interesting.

I have no excuse for not playing Twilight Princess other than giving other games priority over it, either. I really should get back to it sometime.

Ocarina of Time was a great game, but it was still second to A Link to the Past for me.

And the only Zelda I didn't like was Majora's Mask. I've finished the game, but something about it I just didn't like. I think it was the storyline.

    Re: Favorite Zelda games

My favorites are Ocarina of Time/Master Quest and Majora's Mask on N64.
I also like Wind Waker,Twilight Princess, the oracle games and Link's Awakening and basically all of them except 2 games: Zelda II and Spirit Tracks on DS.
Those i disliked simply because they suck

The 4 swords series were not a favorite but i didn't dislike them either.
Minish Cap was extremely challenging if i remember correctly and the multiplayer sequels were fun for a limited time. I finished with my friend the GBA game, because it was fun to collect everything for ALttP and FS.
Four Swords Adventures on the other hand had better levels and bosses but it had nothing to collect, except unlock levels for fighting stages which was decent.
Collecting all those rupees in a panic and get nothing for it kinda ruined the GC version of Four Swords.
It's like Nintendo are trying to be stupid with some games like FSA and Luigi's Mansion.
Games that could've been awesome with 1-2 things left out (For example not overwriting your save would've been benefitial for Luigi's Mansion, but because of it, it made the game suck). I mean who makes a game that overwrites your save to the beginning automatically??

But basically i like all Zelda games except 2 of them which sucked.
Would be fine if upcoming Zelda games would have the difficulty of ALttP and the fun play-through of OoT and MM.

Also, I liked how Ganondorf got sympathetic reasons for his motives. Made him more of a fleshed-out character than just simply being an evil guy who wanted power

It'll be easier to explain if I just quote Ganondorf's speech, but I'll spoiler tag it for those that haven't played it yet:
    SPOILER!!:
Quote by Ganondorf in Wind Waker
My country lay within a vast desert. When the sun rose into the sky, a burning wind punished my lands, searing the world. And when the moon climbed into the dark of night, a frigid gale pierced our homes. No matter when it came, the wind carried the same thing... Death. But the winds that blew across the green fields of Hyrule brought something other than suffering and ruin. I coveted that wind, I suppose.
Life was harsh for those living in the desert, and Ganondorf wanted the life that Hylians had. One that wasn't so harsh as to how he was raised...

...so to me his reason was pretty sympathetic, but I guess anyone can interpret it however they want.
