I am playing it, and I like it so far. It is linear, in that you start each Verse in one place and have to make it to the end to complete the Verse. It was like this in Drakengard,and probably Drakengard 2 (I haven't played it enough to find out). And like the other games in the series (Nier included), you can upgrade your weapons.
The story, at least to the point I am at in the game, is good. Mikhail is definitely my favorite character. He is nothing like the dragons from the other two Drakengard games. His moment of incontinence was not my favorite though. Anyway, as this is the prequel of the first Drakengard game, I recommend playing it. If you aren't going to buy a copy, I would at least rent it to see if it would be something you'd like.
