I don't like much rap at all. But if I had to choose a favourite rap group or artist I'd go for Jedi Mind Tricks or Busta Rhymes.

Vanilla Ice, Snow, and MC Hammer.

I don't really like rap, so I tend to go with those I find somewhat amusing.

Not that I'm dissing rap but I've been disliking a lot of its music as of this year for some reason. Like that one song "Ay Bay Bay", he says "I'm so hot up in tha club, I ain't got no shoes on". I just thought that was stupid and I still don't understand why everyone where I live liked it apart from the beat. Bring back the old shit!!!! I like MC Hammer and Busta Rhymes. I also like Kanye West but I just don't like him. >< Jay Z is my favorite though of all time. I've been wanting to get his "American Gangster" album for a while now.

I will go with Ice Cube, Queen Latifah for their acting skills. But I can't think of anyone else right now.

I used to like Rap tonnes about a year ago. Then I started listening to a bit more soft rock and particuarly *cough* game music..

Ummm Tupac, Nas and Eminem (assuming it's Eminems old stuff) are all pretty good. DMX and Ja Rule are ok. (Coincedentally all 5 of these guys have been in movies.)

I literally laughed when reading this. I agree with you. A lot of it has gotten stupid and we need the good shit back already. I'm no sick of hearing Soulja Boy or "Thick like sneakers". But I have a sister who likes it which I hear it nearly everyday. I still don't see how we're related. ><

50!!!! I like 50 and also the Kottonmouth Kings . Didn't 50 retire by the way? He lost to Kanye West and they made a deal or something like that I heard a while back. Eh, honestly I'm tired of Akon. I've been hearing him all year long along with T-Pain and its just gotten boring.

Some say he's wanted by the CIA, and that he sleeps upside down like a bat... all we know is, he's called the Stig

Some say that his tears are adhesive, and that if he caught fire, he'd burn for a thousand days... all we know is, he's called the Stig.

Some say that his genitals are on upside down, and that if he could be bothered, he could crack the Da Vinci Code in 43 seconds... all we know is, he's called the Stig.

Some say that the outline of his left nipple is exactly the same shape as the Nürburgring, and that if you give him a really important job to do, he'll skive off and play croquet... all we know is, he's called the Stig.

Some say he isn't machine washable, and all his potted plants are called Steve... all we know is, he's called the Stig.

I don't like much rap either. The only song I can really stand is "Baby Got Back" by Sir Mix-a-Lot because it's just a funny song.

You guys need to stop hating lol. Ya'll just dont know where to find the good stuff. Ludacris may have had that song out, but he does meaningful songs too. Just like every other rapper, they have their party/club songs and they have their songs that have messages or mean a lot to how they were raised. Well anyways, if you know what's going on in rap now a days you would know that T.I and weezey F baby are at the top. Jay Z is alright with his new American Gangsta album. Eminem needs to come out again. Akon is played out. I used to like him before but his voice got old, but he's not so much a rapper. I'm tired of hearing him millions of times on the radio. Dre is dropping another album next year and hopefully it will be sexy because it's supposedly his very last retirement album from rap. I missed Nelly and he's back. I like how he has a melody in his voice to a lot of his songs. As I memtioned before, Ludacris is a pretty good lyricist that puts humor into his lyrics. I know you guys remember "Roll out" lol, I remember that from High School ^_^.

My favorite rap artist is probably...Big L, Mos Def and the Kottonmouth Kings. Throw some Tupac in there too, some Dr. Dre and Eminem. (His first two albums) Mos Def is probably on top though. His lyrics have so much depth to them, it's a lot more than being sexist and rapping about his spinning rims and how much hoes he's beaten up. Unlike that 50 cent who raps about the same shit in each song

Some lyrics from "Respiration" by Mos Def

"My eagle talons STAY sharpened, like city lights stay throbbin
You either make a way or stay sobbin, the Shiny Apple
is bruised but sweet and if you choose to eat
You could lose your teeth, many crews retreat
Nightly news repeat, who got shot down and locked down
    Spotlight to savages, NASDAQ averages
My narrative, rose to explain this existance
Amidst the harbor lights which remain in the distance"

Props to Chairman Meow for mentioning Wu-Tang, I was thinking I was the only Killa Bee on this forum.

My favs, in no particular order: Blackalicious, Wu-Tang Clan, Cyprus Hill, BG Knockout + Gangsta Drestah, Kool G Rap, The Game, 36Mafia, 50 Cent(strictly drunk), Nas, Rahzel(more beatboxing), and for sure T.I. I remember picking up his King album before it really caught on, I felt like I'd discovered a secret treasure.

Yeah, well I talked like that on purpose to get on peoples nerves because I know at these forums the majority hates rap and everything that surrounds the hip hop culture. Check out bay area rap too, its fun to listen to with their punch lines. Such as mistah fab, frontline, traximillion, yukmouth, e 40, the federation to name a few.

Just because you listen to Metal doesn't mean you have to hate other genres. I listen to Metal as well but right now I'm listening to Classical and I like a lot of Techno/Trance. In fact I quite dislike most of the fans of metal as well as rap... yeah its mostly the fans that kill it.

Man, it isn't like I'm a metal purist or anything. I'm listening to Drive Like Jehu right now and on the way to school had Del The Funkee Homosapian's Both Sides of the Brain playin'. You just don't get how inanely stupid mainstream rap is if you don't get why that post bothered me.

It was the whole 'trying to get a diamond out of a barbie doll accessory ring' deal that irked me.

I can say I think metal is stupid and depressing right? You just need to know how to search for a good artist either underground or on the come up artist. People find different things they like in each artist and their style. It''s also either if you understand what each song is trying to say or is about..

Something tells me you missed my point.

I do know plenty of underground rap and I love a good bit of it - tons of amazing stuff. Mainstream rap is awful.

People may find different things but I still find it really hard to believe that anyone can find gold in a dung pile.

If I had to choose, I'd say Jay Z, but only because his lyrics are intelligent and poetic, not like the usual thing you here. I suppose for that same reason Eminem is interesting to listen to, but I really hate his whole attitude.

Sad to see no ones made a Soulja Boy reference yet. Shame on you TFF. YOUUUUUU!!!!!!!

I used to think that I hated pretty much all rap, but through my brother I've discovered a few artists that I like. I especially like some of the "Nerd Core" genre, like MC Chris. I've also always liked the Beastie Boys and Busta Rhymes, and I like that guy who rapped in a few Gorillaz songs too. I think that's him anyway. I totally cannot remember the name of Andre 3000's "band" right now either, but I liked them, too. Basically, I like rap artists who don't take themselves too seriously.

I also like some artists that mix hip-hop/rap with other forms of music. Like Faith No More (Mike Patton is the man, apparently. I just discovered this this year, too. "Surprise! You're dead!") Anyhoo...

Oh god, I remember a while back, everyone would play that song so much. It was everywhere!!! That song was okay though. It was a little overrated and overplayed though. I think Soulja Boy's going to be a one-hit wonder though...

Outkast you mean? They're awesome!!! "Roses", "Sorry Ms. Jackson", "Hey Y'all" are a few of my favorites from their's. I have to agree with you that the fact that they don't take themeselves seriously. And if you've seen their music videos, they're not like 50 Cent's or T.I.'s.

I think I've probably already said this but Kanye West is growing on me. I haven't got his new album which came out a long time ago but "Flashing Lights" and "Good Life" have been stuck in my head all this week. One thing I don't like about him though is how he thinks he's the shit when really he's being perceived as an arrogant whiny ass but I still like his music, just not him.
