    NP: Hypocrisy - The Abyss.

    Great song.

Anyway, I've been heightening my metal experience lately... eh, I manage to sound like such a docuhe when trying to express my love for certain genres.

Also, Peter Tagtgren was attractive (in some pictures), until I realised how old that dude is.

Anyway, I'm stupid and having trouble making a tag with LAST.FM to display my tracks. Whatever...

Winter, I checked out Dark Tranquility. They're like an Opeth meets Katatonia, meets Windir band, I'd say. Not QUITE, but I don't have a "right way" to explain it.

    Hmm, what else?

Ah yes, I managed to reach "Super" on compatibilty on LAST.FM with Ven'Gyr, perhaps we manipulated that a bit by the sending back and forth of tracks. >_>
Two Meshuggah tracks, an Anaal Nathrakh track, two Akira Yamaoka tracks were exchanged. Of course, though, Ven'Gyr (*cough*, refuses to) / doesn't know about anything that isn't Norwegian.

    =P

He seems to be the only one I have a super compatibility with, though. Dammit, guys, stretch to our taste, wudja?!

NP: Leviathan - Particular Disease.... if you like Xasthur you'll like these guys as they're much better, I think they have a split with Xasthur though I can't remember for sure, however I would suggest The 10th Sub Level of Suicide.

As I said in the BoD thread, I shall give you a list of my favourite songs currently...

Leviathan - F*cking your ghost in the chain of Ice (Black Metal)

    Darkspace - I.4 (Black Metal)

Moonblood - Under the Cold Fullmoon (BM)

Paysage d'Hiver - Weit Aus Eis (BM)

    Shining - Självdestruktivitetens (BM)

Windir - Journey to the End. (BM/techno)

    Wyrd - Ajeke (BM)

    Esoteric - Disident (Doom)

Evil Incarnate - Satanic Victory (Death)

Garden of Shadows (Death, similar to Opeth but not soft)

Infernal Bleeding - Driven to Conquer (Death)

Longing for Dawn - Lethal (Doom)

    Nortt - Ligpraedike

Novembre - Nostalgiaplatz (Again kind of like Opeth except better)

    Nunslaughter - Satanic Slut

Ensiferum - Guardians of Fate (Viking Metal)

Bathory - God of Thunder, Wind & Rain (Viking/Black)

Isengard - I Kamp Med Hvitekrist (Viking, same guy from Storm)

Vintersorg - För Kung Och Fosterland (Epic Viking Metal)

    Wintersun - Starchild (Viking)

and yeah that should be enough for now.

Garden of Shadows (Death, similar to Opeth but not total crap)
    Fixed

By the way Winter, do you post on Accelerated-E?

    Metal, ew.

My ex started listening to this stuff before we broke up. I think one band was called Devour or something and he made me listen to and read the lyrics for a song about eating fetuses. There's something wrong with you guys for liking this stuff.

Thank you for your invaluable contribution to the topic at hand. I'm sure that everyone will feel much better about themselves after reading that and everyone, myself included, will take their lives up for thorough evaluation.

That being said, I just pre-ordered the re-issues of Sabbat's "History Of A Time To Come" and "Dreamweaver". Finally a chance to require these at a reasonable price unlike what they are going for on Egay at the moment.

I guess you're one of those people that just can't handle a little aggression and adreniline once in a while, eh?

Not to be nasty or anything, but metal is pretty ****ing popular, especially, seemingly those who posess computers and are on them a lot... gee, I wonder why...

You have to admit, though. It was amusing.

Personally, depending on the band, I feel good listening to the genre. It is the only type of music (besides the medolic ways of Akira Yamaoka's industrial feel) that makes me actually FEEL good in some way.
Depending on the band and song...

Metal pretty much wins for me. If you don't understand it, Crybaby (seriously, I'm not flaming, LOOK AT THE USERNAME! ), then that's your own opinion, you're welcome to bring it into a thread of guys who listen to metal most of the time, but you may get bad feedback for it.

And you were also bordering on flamebaiting as well. It doesn't bother me personally, and I doub any of the others here either, but keep it to a minimum, you can get warned for that, y'know? How do I know? I actually took the time to read the rules.

I LOL'D sooo much, I am tempted to flame the hell out of you but that would just lead to more excessive crap.

I am thinking of getting the Windir DVD, I can't get enough of them lately.

EDIT: Heimdall - no, what is that?

Baby Killer by Devourment (I'm assuming that's the track/band you are refering to) is a great song, you're being too harsh in judging such an epic piece of art. I am curious to know what killer bands you listen to. They must be pretty awesome to make an emokid talk down on metal like that!

Why do people post in here if they don't even like it, just a waste of time :S

anyhoo... I am not a big fan of the extreme stuff though I do like some of female stuff like Lacuna Coil, The Gathering, Nightwish & occasionally Cradle of Filth.

You know, I have a few earlier albums of Behemoth but I haven't had a chance to listen to Demonica. Anyone think they can give me some insight on it?

Please PLEASE say you mean early CoF... their new stuff is Black Pop XD. Lacuna Coil is pretty impressive, I've seen them live before and they do have a way with a crowd. Plus Christina Scabbia is a babe and she gave me a hug ^_^.

As for the Gathering, never heard of it. Nightwish though... very good stuff. Although, I don't think too highly of them for dumping Tarja... it'd be a rare thing if they found another vocalist with her abilities.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Well said my brother of the bottle

I've been having quite a bit of Symphonic Black Metal period lately where I've been playing nothing but Norwegian shit like Old Man's Child, Emperor, Immortal (even though the latter is less Symphonic) anyway I want to get more into Doom, been listening to Nortt some times and I enjoy that so I kinda hoped someone would be so Doomish to recommend me some bands in said genre. \m/

Respect them for it, think highly of them for it, they threw away their main selling point because she had a total disreguard of respect and duty to the band and felt that SHE was Nightwish, when she failed to realize that the band is Nightwish not her as a person.

Also check out The Gathering. Their first two albums are Death/Doom, then they did some Gothic metal material (Mandylion in particular is fantastic AND is one of the best Gothic metal albums ever released), then they went and turned all prog. rock and released some more great albums (particularly How To Measure A Planet?

Doom, probably my third favorite metal subgenre outside of black and folk. Here's a decent sized list of death doom.

First off the four classic death/doom bands that everyone must know so they can understand the roots of the style.

    Anathema:
    Crestfallen
    Serenades
    Pentecost III
    The Silent Enigma
Eternity (Okay so this release isn't death/doom but it is by FAR their best release.)

    My Dying Bride:
    As The Flowers Wither
    Turn Lose The Swans
The Angel and the Dark River

    Paradise Lost:
    Gothic
    Icon
    Shades of God
    Draconian Times

    Katatonia:
    Jhva Elohim Meth... the Revival
    Dance of December Souls
    Brave Murder Day

Now onto my personal picks for genre essentials.

    Black Forest:
    Sadness

    Catherdal:
    Forest of Equilibrium

    Daylight Dies
    No Reply
    Idle
    Dismantling Devotion

    diSEMBOWELMENT
    Transcendence Into The Peripheral

    Evoken:
    Embrace The Emptiness
    Quietus
    Shades of Night Descending
    Antithesis Of Light

    Indesinence:

    Noctambulism

    Morgion:
Cloaked By Ages, Crowned In Earth
    Among Majestic Ruins
    Solinari

    Mourning Beloveth:
    Dust
    The Sullen Sulcus
    A Murderous Circus

    Novembers Doom:
Of Sculptured Ivy And Stone Flowers

    Saturnus:
    Paradise Belongs To You
    Martyre
    Veronika Decides To Die

    Whispering Forest:
    Of Shadows and Pale Light

Very true, she was the bitch of all bitches, but a lot of their fan base came to associate her voice with the band. When you think about it, the lead singers of a lot of bands are assholes/bitches. If they suck despite their ego, then hell yeah, drop them, but when you've got someone with Tarja's vocal range... then it becomes an almost necesary evil. Meh, I'll still buy their records regardless of Tarja getting her ass booted out, mainly since I have a soft spot for symphonic metal.

I value artistic credibility FAR more than capital credibility, and dealing with someone who is artistically opposed to the vision that the rest of the band is just not worth doing. It would drive the quality of the music down significantly as well I think.

My Dying Bride is f*cking grym.

I also found out that Agalloch is American, which I totally unbelievable because most U.S. black metal is absolutely rubbish. Also a grym ****ing band. Chez, if you like them, I also suggest Woods of Ypres.

USBlack Metal can and often is fantastic. Leviathan, Xasthur, Ludicra, Grand Belial's Key, Fanisk, Lurker of Chalice, Weakling, Negative Plane, Wolves in the Throne Room, Krieg, Absu, Birkenau, I Shalt Become, Velvet Cacoon, and Averse Sefira are only a few of the amazing USBM bands.

I keep hearing ABOUT Woods Of Ypres but I never seem to get the chance to actually listen to them... Hmm... O_o;...

I really should, though, once my obsessed with Hypocrisy fades off for a while, I'm going to need more shit to keep me occupied until I want Hypocrisy again.

Sorry I didn't get the chance to post here earlier I only woke up a little while ago... Oops?

Anyway, I've had a lot of suggestions from people now. I'm thinking I won't be completely bored for a while.

I've heard Absu, but I didn't know they were a U.S. band. I also checked out Wolves in the Throneroom's MySpace, their music sounds promising. I am in your debt for the recommendations, and once again you have proven your easily above average knowledge of metal.

    I am what now?

Anyway yeah surprisingly there is a few good USBM such as Leviathan, Draugur, Xasthur and I guess Krieg though I am not sure of my opinion of them seem as how they use DBZ samples.

I have been listening to a lot of raw stuff like the LLN bands, Moonblood, Leviathan etc...

They're quite a good band, but make sure to ignore both the hype and the hate because they are a very dividing band in the metal world. More so than other bands the opinions about them are very polarized.

Also so far only their demo is actually metal (black metal), their first album (their second one is due soon) isn't really metal, more of a mixture of folk rock, doom metal, and black metal, but overall it ends up being more rock based than metal.

Unfortunately, I'm not really likely to listen to what masses say... The majority of them are even more musically-stupid than I am... and that's saying something.

I'll take your word for it, because you, unlike most people, actually have a good opinion and mindset about music in the first place.

I hear it; and will decide for myself whether it is "ear-worthy".

My play on words sucks like a motherbitch.

Funny you should mention that because I believe Malefic actually whispers into the mic and turns up the distortion or something. However I agree the ambient stuff is better in my opinion.

I guess Krieg is ok despite the trendy name and stuff, sometimes its just typical "chugga chuga" metal but sometimes it's pretty well done.

I keep getting Woods of Ypres confused with Woods of Belial (Which I have a demo of that is quite good)

Dug out my Strapping Young Lad tracks out the other day. Some great shit they've got!

I forget how raw and awesome they are sometimes.

Apart from the excessive, obsessive Hypocrisy craze I've been going through, Nile, Opeth, Windir and Strapping Young Lad have been occupying a lot of my time.

Over 1,000 times I've listened to Hypocrisy this WEEK.

Windir was my top band this week even though it didn't feel like it, 53 plays it says which I guess is all 4 albums plus 1 or 2 more.

Right now I am listening to Burzum, I know most of you hate his politics but seriously his stuff is some of the greatest stuff ever, definitely the best out of the first Norwegian wave.

I only got like, twenty plays out of Windir on my Last.Fm.
Chez Daja has been damn lazy. Heh.

NP: Opeth - Face Of Melinda.

Man does this bring back some good memories of times when life was actually pretty enjoyable.
I'm missing an Opeth album, though... This makes me a sad duck.

EDIT: 5,900th post, too. ****ing w00t.

The best metal song ever is Strong Bad's Trogdor, that's some killer shit. I mean, what a guitar solo! Two even! Those high pitched screams just send shivers down my spine; I love them. And the content, I mean, what a burninator that wingaling is! Again, the best metal songs ever, period. And the Trogdor comes in the NIIIIIIIGHT! \m/

    Until now!
