Hey sorry that I have been totally MIA lately but I finally got a real guy job and it is sucking my will to live. NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO...................... I am hoping to find a job that involves more video games and random "what ever I want to do time" but until then I suck.

Anyhow I recently picked up a copy of Saga Frontier because I have never played it and it was made by Squaresoft. I would like to say that it was a bit of a disappointment. Has anyone else played it? And if so does it get better? Please say it does.

Cripes, It's been a bit since I've posted in this club.

I have a bit of awesome real-life happenings going on.

I received a letter from Cambridge University in England inviting me to study there for about 3 weeks. I get to choose two of their 75+ classes to take and there is one class they're forcing all invitees to take. Once there, several trips will be made, including trips to: Warwick Castle, the city of Bath, Stonehenge, Stratford-upon-Avon, and so on. I also have the opportunity to spend another decent chunk of cash to go on a week long trip to France.
So I'll be away July 18-August 14. If I can get internet access there, I'll make a thread for pictures and such on the forum somewhere.
So...yeah. All sorts of paperwork and money reorganization.

Also prom on Saturday. I got myself a fancy silver suit, because I figured no one else had picked one like it. Pictures will be up in the next day or so. Expect the usual random gauntlets/sword-fights in my photographs.

Also near graduation time. School has already begun winding down and preparing for graduation festivities and the like. As long as I pass, I've earned an Advanced Diploma with additional Computer Science awards.

So other than my very essence being stretched thin, life is good.
although...
Busy, busy, busy.

ZOMG he is alive!

At least he wants you to think that!

Really his body is in a numb state and his mind is overwhelmed by these constant 14 hour days of brutal work.

But hey, if the pay is good why complain about the hours, right? XD

That being said, most days I don't have enough time for sleep, much less anything else. But on those days where that is not the case, you can find me whoring myself to FFXI or FFIV right now. Or my new SEGA Genesis. Oh yes, Road Rash III, Lemmings, Mortal Kombat II, Golden Axe, Sonic II...who could need more than those five to pass the time? Well, if I had Streets of Rage III...

CP: See above paragraph.

In reference to computer games, refers to a game that had substantial playability without flashy graphics or eye candy. Old skool gamers appreciate difficult maneuvers, careful planning, and scorched earth policies.

In reference to role-playing games, old skool refers to games that tested players' wits, could kill off careless characters, and required dedication and inner strength to play. Old skool games didn't pander to the ideas that everyone is created equal, that all options are open to all races, that the markets were somehow free, and that a quasi-medieval society could have near 100% literacy.

Oh boy. So sorry for my incredibly long inactivity as far as this thread goes. I haven't been in the best of spirits as of late and just didn't feel up to posting. Pulling the sword out of one's heart seems just as painful as when it was plunged in, if you get my drift; but I won't bore you with my problems. I'm alive, so yes.

I finished my univeristy exams up last week and did...decent I suppose. I don't have my marks back yet, save one, but I feel I did acceptable enough. In my history courses, I did pretty well, I'm fairly certain (well, I know I got a B+ on one of them), so that's the most important thing. Stats was killer, and I certainly don't want to go into that. Suffice it to say I'm going to a cabin this weekend and I will be burning my Stats notes.

Gaming: Well, I have been on massive KOTOR2 runs. I mean massive. Like, in the last 2 weeks I've gone most of the way through about 6 files. I always had an idea for the next character before I finished unfortunately and it caused me to never finish once, heh. I've got Peragus and Telos (the first part of the game) down to a science I've done it so much. On the old skool side of things, I've started up Shining Force 2 again. I've been wanting to for a while, but I finally got around to it. I'm going through my usual stallage though as I'm about to fight the Kraken who, knows anyone that's played the game, is an absolute bitch to fight. That and after him the experience starts to greatly drop off. I'll be lucky to get 20 experience for killing a gargoyle. Bloody things. For some reason May and Jaha always end up being really good versus those things though I'm not sure why.

So anyways, yes, I'm alive, that's my situation. Cheers.

CP:

Until now!

As most of you already know, I've been swamped with work and a girlfriend and a social life and videogames, in that order. My gaming has taken low priority at the moment, at least until the crazy spot that is my life decides to lighten up a bit.

Gaming includes:

Pokemon Pearl (NDS)
Valhalla Knights (PSP)
Sonic the Hedgehog (GEN via Wii)
LoZ: A Link to the Past (SNES via Wii)
The Godfather: Blackhand Edition (WII)
EVE Online (PC)

...a good little variety of new and old school stuff, but the focus this past week has been mostly on my shiny new PSP and the new Pokemon game I snagged for my DS.

My PSP has the most blasphemic background ever, though.

Put this into perspective.

It is a SONY PLAYSTATION PORTABLE, and THIS is the wallpaper.

Hey if you're afraid to challenge me in Chocobo Tales, just say so, no need for the farce

Actually I haven't played much of that lately because my sister is borrowing my DS playing Phoenix Wright.

I just finished up Super Paper Mario aside from some of the extra things. I'm wondering if I should spend 10 dollars on playing Mario 64 via VC (I have beaten it, but it's been several years since), or if I should spend a little more and get Mario Sunshine which I haven't played at all. I'm in a real mood for a platformer.

(or if I should get my act together and finish DQ8, I just don't have the drive to finish it anymore)

(or if I should beat Zodiark and Yiazmat and the other Uber bosses in FFXII which I don't have much of a drive to do either)

My sister's played my copy of FFF:CT WAY more than I have. In fact, I think I booted up the game, started a file, and that was all the more I got into it at the time.

That's why I'm buying a new DS Lite for myself and giving her my current DS when the next paycheck rolls around.

No point in signing FFF:CT or Pokemon, for that matter, to this system if I'm just going to end up getting a new one. I'd rather not have to start the games over.

Hey, nice to hear from some of the cult members.

I have to say I've been pretty busy too, between friends, my new job which I've been working fulltime, and of course, a shit load of rpg games. I've been buying a lot of games off of amazon, so that has really kept me busy. I recently finished Xenosaga II, Xenosaga III, and Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits. Now I'm deciding which rpg to play next: Dragon Quest VIII, Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria, Disgaea, or Radiata Stories. So I've started new games in all of them in order to test them out and make up my mind. Right now I'm leaning towards DQ VIII and VP 2: Silmeria (I love this game and it's hard difficulty). Aside from the rpgs though, I've had some Okami and Mark of Kri on the side.

But of course let's not forget the old school stuff. My friend and I recently finished Donkey Kong Country and are getting into Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong's Quest on the SNES. I've also purchased some beat em ups, Final Fight 3, Maximum Carnage (damn that game is hard), and TMNT IV: Turtles in Time, which we both have been playing together as well (besides Maximum Carnage which is 1 player).

Sooo..CP:

1. Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria - PS2
2. Dragon Quest VIII - PS2
3. Radiata Stories - PS2 (on standby until I finish top two rpgs)
4. Disgaea -PS2 (on standby until I finish top two rpgs)
5. Okami -PS2 (on temporary standby)
6. Mark of Kri -PS2 (on temporary standby)
7. Grandia -PSX (on temporary standby)
8. Day of Defeat: Source - PC
9. Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong's Quest - SNES
10. Spiderman and Venom: Maximum Carnage - SNES

..I will end with saying that I think every ps2 rpg fan owes it to themselves to play through the Xenosaga trilogy, even though it is very non old school. Probably so far my most enjoyable rpg experience on the console. And Arc the Lad, a beloved series to me..more people should appreciate these games.

Teh Dragon Quest III is full of all kinds of win! Oh yes, this is my latest gaming frenzy and I am enjoying it. I've owned this game...started a file once before...never played it much at all until the other day.

What prompted that was reading this last week. I mean, they placed DQIII above IV! WTF? How could it get any better than DQIV, right? Curiousity wins out, and now I'm busy trying to discover if this is another timeless classic that can stand among the titans at the top of MY list. Speaking of which, I need to redo that old list. Yes, very much need to do so soon!

Oh, and I decided to change my name. At least for now. Why not, right? Go with something new for a while!

CP: A whole bunch of NES games in between the DQIII-fest! I forgot how fun Track and Field was!

Dragon Quest FTW!

I have to say I don't have a lot of DQ experience..I've played through/beaten DQ VI for the SNES (unofficial english translation), and briefly played Dragon Warrior I & II/III in their Game Boy Color editions briefly while borrowing them from a friend. Dragon Warrior III was probably the most fun I had of all those games, I was really surprised to see that IGN gave the game a perfect 10 though. It's the first time the series uses the job system, though it returns in VI. I haven't played IV though, so I can't comment on it. I recently ordered the hard to find VII for the PS off of amazon recently though, so I'm pumped about that.

Speaking of DQ, I am playing through VIII right now and not playing much of anything else. I gotta say, thus far of all the ps2 rpgs I have played, this is probably my favorite. Comparing this game to FF X is just funny to me.. I'm not sure how anybody in their right mind could say FF X is a better game than DQ VIIII. Then again, that's coming from the old school point of view!

A lot of people regard DQVIII to be the best RPG on the system. Hell, one of my co-workers claims FFX is his favorite PS2 RPG but notes that DQVIII is still a better game.

I've noticed that most people have a hard time clarifying the line between "best" and "favorite" -- they're two completely different things! My favorite game of all time, as most of you know, is Uniracers for the SNES. It is FAR from the best game ever; I don't even think I'd put it on a Top 25 list.

Did I just go off on a tangent? Heh, oops. I've been out of it lately.

Currently Playing:
Pokémon Pearl (NDS) - oh, and I got my DSLite!
Pokémon Leafgreen (GBA via NDS)
Valhalla Knights (PSP)
LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy (PC)
Valkyrie Profile (PSX)
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES via WII)

I'll get into my little tangent on PS2 RPGs at another time. We should have a discussion about it at some point. You know, one of those full, drawn out things. I, for one, personally don't agree that DQVIII is the best RPG on the system, but it's damn close.

Yeah that's a really good point, my point of view of "best" and "favorite" usually differs a lot. I guess it's safe to say that DQ so far to me is probably the best, but maybe not my top favorite, I haven't even finished it yet though so I'll comment on that later. It's definitely one of my favorites though.

At this point in time, having played a pretty good amount of PS2 rpgs (but nowhere near all the good ones though), I'd say DQ VIII, Star Ocean 3, Xenosaga Trilogy (hard to group them as separate games), Valkyrie Profile 2 (from the little I've played of it atleast ) Final Fantasy XII and Rogue Galaxy are my favorite rpgs on the console. But I agree, we should have a discussion. I have vowed not to buy a new console until I play every worthwhile rpg on the PS2, and am currently going through the list pretty quickly. My biggest challenge is going to be playing all of Nippon Ichi's strategy rpgs back to back in one long marathon...

I was actually planning on starting a top ps2 rpg thread after i was done with a few more..needless to say the ps2 has one of the biggest rpg libraries around.

Oh yeah..and enjoy Valkyrie Profile Caesar, certainly one of my favorite rpgs around. I think the original is better than the sequel too..although they are pretty hard to compare because a lot has changed between them (though there are obviously still a lot of similarities). It's almost like trying to compare Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. The einherjar have now become boring, randomly generated characters though.

Cripes you guys put me to shame anymore, lol. My latest playings have been S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl and yet still more FFXI, lol. I'm honestly not sure how long it's been since I touched anything old-school. Only so many hours in the day unfortunately. ;;

Hello, I'm back at last.

So what been happening in this club for the last couple of months?

Oh and I recently got Dragon Quest 6 and for some reason I was kind of completely put off by the fact that it was a front view battle system. Dunno why just seem weird to me but is it a good game compared to say FF6.

I've also been having trouble playing games lately because whenever I get off work I don't really feel playing games for at least I'm finding it hard to commit myself to RPGs. I've restarted FF12 twice and only gotten halfway through, this is because when I don't play it for several weeks I lose the motivation to continue where I was. Could it be that working life is ruining my gaming life. Oh dear I hope not.

Hey congrats Juice *joins in dancing and raises a beer*.

Well I've definitely been away from the Cult from awhile and from TFF in general due to pure laziness and because I've been a bit busy with things. In gaming news, DQ VIII is currently on temporary hold. When we brought up the best/favorite ps2 games I thought the only thing that I would probably like more than DQ VIII....SUIKODEN! As much as I'm an avid old schooler, my favorite post SNES rpg series is suikoden hands down. When I think of amazing rpgs of the PS era..what do I think of? Suikoden II.

Anyhoo, so I recently ordered Suikoden III, IV, V and Tactics. I'm playing them in numerical order, even though it's not that big of deal which order you play them. I, II, and III are more direct sequels of one another though, atleast chronologically speaking. Basically from what I've heard from gaming sites and forums, and user reviews alike: III is great, IV is a disgrace (atleast to the series standards, but not a bad game all together), and V is a great return to the series roots (finally the original battle system is back). Seems like most still consider II the best though. I hope to tell my final verdict of all the games once I finish the new ones. I'm playing through Suikoden III right now and loving it though (despite a few problems like the camera angle and the strangely altered battle system).

I am playing something old school though, and something I know Jintatsu might like! And that game is...*drumroll*...Shining Force CD! I didn't know this game existed, but it's a compilation of two remakes of the Game Gear games Shining Force Gaiden and Shining Force Gaiden II. Visually, right on par with Shining Force II. Gameplay wise though, all the free roaming town sequences are gone, so it's basically strictly battles. Still, with two games, and the same classic shining force battles, it's a must play for fans of the series.

For once my post actually contains something (sit down, this might hurt you) BESIDES FFXI!

Ya rly.

In the old-school gaming era: Played some NES and 64 last night. Yes, I'm aware 64 isn't that old, but considering we're 2 systems past it anymore, I think it's earned it's induction into the old-school halls. Much fun was had with Anticipation and Marble Madness for the NES. Then more fun was had admittedly as we broke out first Star Fox 64, the Super Smash Bros., and finally a little bit of Mario Kart 64 to top it off, with many rounds of Battle and several VS. races, mostly consisting of Rainbow Road and Wario's Stadium. A little bit of Starcraft thrown into the mix in preparation for the upcoming Starcraft 2 some time in the future (gameplay trailers exist now, it looks SO damned pretty).

So ya, little bit of old-school for once from the old-school loving Mithra. =^.^=

CP: Read the post, yar.

...did you SERIOUSLY just utter those words?

Join you at Gaia? WHATTHEFUCKNO. =(

My old school gaming as of late has consisted of Valkyrie Profile, and a handful of virtual console games on the Wii (Street Fighter II, Excitebike, Link to the Past, and Sonic). No gaming otherwise.

GASP! No current-gen games running?! Nope, not at the moment. Too busy.

Scorp...did you get younger? Only 12 year olds have the time to sift through the 3 million threads on Gaia. You scare me. Old skool to them is N64...

I think you should kill yourself instead of me for that.

Gaming gaming gaming what gaming? Kotor2 as always? Sure. It's only my 20th file or so. Shining Force 2 when I feel like it. Yup. Zro is dead again? Mother ****er. Bisho bastard! >=O

Pokemon Pearl, ugliest starting pokemon to date? I think so. "We already have a water turtle, let's make a grass one even though turtles have nothing to do with grass!" Silly.

Least cohearant post ever? Oh yes.

Alcohol in my slurpee? Yes indeed. =)

Yay for old school gaming, Nintendo 64, Wii..and alcohol Jin.

I'll make this short. Playing Suikoden III still and It's been sucking my life away, so far I have to say this is probably my favorite RPG on the PS2 thus far. About 30 hours into it..probably another 30 or more to go?

On top of that I've been playing Shining Force CD. The cool part about the game? Multiple difficulty settings (one of my annoyances was that the original games were a bit on the easy side). So I've been playing the game on extra hard mode which wasn't too bad until I got up to about Chapter 3 and the battles are suddenly REALLY hard and my characters are way under leveled. So I've been stuck on the same battle for days now.

Old school question (for ZRO, noticing his awesome banners):

Is Mega Man X Collection worth getting? I loved the original three on the SNES , especially the first one. I've heard the later games in the series aren't exactly stellar though

I have the 10000th post in this forum. Booyah! =D

Funny thing about Shining Force and difficulty. For my current SF2 file, I decided to put the difficulty up to "ouch", the supposed hardest. The witch seemed pretty certain I'd die, but so far there has been absolutely NO difference. I think the programers just got lazy and decided to use the difficulty settings for psychological warfare, rather than actually making it harder.

Until now!

The less than triumphant return of Rasler

Hello fellow cult members. This post is as much to reaffirm that I am IN FACT still alive as it is to get rid of that automatic reminder that I haven't posted in several weeks. Technology likes to tell me things that I already know.

Anyways, I have been away with some les than desirable health issues. It was quite rough, with coughing fits so painful I was having convulsions.

The only game I'm playing at this time is FFV-A. I'm nearly done with it. (Finally)

Yes. It is entirely worth it. Any compilation of old-school games is worth your money. it's like 5-6 Megaman X games plus like 2 bonus games. And yes, the later X games are a bit crap.

Okay, temporary access to a computer = post time!

Mega Man X Collection...eh...it depends...I have every game in the series (Including 7, 8, and Command Mission), and I still bought the Collection, if for no other reason than just to hear the stage music for Storm Eagle in it's glorious remastered version.

And to clear up what Rasler said (if my memory is working for once) Mega Man Collection was Mega Man 1~8, and also had the Mega Man Power Battle games as well (which were never released here in the states). Mega Man X Collection is just X 1~6, with a few goodies thrown on the disc per usual with Collection type games now days.

Admittedly, the later games in the X series were a bit...eh...not as good? But they're still worth playing, tho 5 and 6 kinda turned me off personally a bit, due to their "OMG go do that or that or that!" type of play. 1-4 were pretty much straight forward MegaMan games, except for a few oddball deals, like being able to switch to Zero in the middle of a stage in 3, and in 4 you could pick to go through the game as either Zero or X right at the start, but whichever one you picked, you were stuck with for the whole game. 5 and 6 kinda took the whole idea and turned it a little oddball, making it so that Zero just plain wasn't available for pieces of the game, and changing up options depending on who you went with from the start. Such as if you started with X in 5, Zero lost his ability to use his Z-Buster, but if you started with Zero, then you lost out on one of X's armors (Falcon Armor from 4 if I remember right). Mind you, I'm not nearly the expert on 4-6 that I was on 1-3 at one point in time. Been a long time since I truly sat down and played my ass off at that series, tho I need to...still never even finished 5 and 6 with all endings, never finished 7 at all, haven't even opened 8 yet, and Command Mission I lost interest in at some point. I think most of all that tho is because I got my head stuck in FFXI, and kinda lost interest in just about everything else, since my mind kinda works on a "I'm paying for it, I'm playing the shit out of it" philosophy.

OKay, now that I've gone and completely ranted my ass off, I'd like to point your attention to my latest craze. Advance Wars. I've no clue if the first one is as good (couldn't find a ROM file of it to d/l ;; ) but I've been playing Advance Wars 2 on my comp, and omfg this game is a freaking blast. XD

On a sidenote, finally finished my Mega Man X fanfic, tho I guess you could say it's kinda still not finished) and that's been a minor accomplishment, tho I left it open for a sequel which I think I may start working on soon. Who knows? http://www.fanfiction.net/~zro4825 <~~link to my Fanfiction.net profile if anyone's feeling energetic enough to read through 27 chapters, lol.

No need to ask GRIM, Ye be always welcome within the Dark Halls of our loving Cult.

Inbetween work and whoring myself onto FF11, I've been doing alot of Youtube lurking and I came across this fucking wicked clip of all the Limit Breaks in FF7. It made me grin because they are pretty much *all* identical to the skills in FF11 which you have to put (realistically) years into. Yes, thats years ~ our time not game time. lol

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gs866stRx3o

Wouldnt mind being able to properly download the thing, instead of chewing up bandwith to watch it every single damn time I clickie on it. Ah well I suppose you cant get everything eh >_> Also got my hands on some spiffy new FF4 hentai which I should add to my online collection but alas.. keep forgetting, either via beer or purely being lazy at the time.

CP: Jins favorite game, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
And where I whore myself for gilz, FF11.
SPOILER!!:

GRIM would like to join the club. I haven't been online in a long time and I kinda missed my drinking buddies you know who Im talking about. Old skool games are the best! They may not have the best graphics compaired today but they have better gameplay compaired to the current games today.
