What sort of things are you interesting in RPing? There seems to be a lot of people who'd like to, but don't have the opportunity. It's sort of a shame, haha.

I'd agree though... "not as serious" is best. Some things are just too hard to keep up in.

I am scared to RP. I have an RP phobia! I want to join the Bleach RP too, but all I do is stare and watch. >.>

Does GIMP have the Background Eraser and the Magic Eraser? I mostly use those to cut out renders. But you're talking about the little rough, white edges after cutting, right? I'm not sure if it has it, but Layer Masks of the renders that are smoothen with Gaussian Blur are good. Also, you can just take the Blur Tool and go along the edges to make them smooth.

I have a question for you. Hold down Ctrl and click on a layer image. Does that select everything not transparent for you?
