SAAS are nice in that they'll pay your tuition fees for free without too much fuss. But anything beyond that they cling on to for dear life. Have ready for March photocopies of:

Your birth certificate
Proof of residence
Proof of your parents' marital status, residence, nationality, and financial details
Some crazy tax credit things

And that's only the beginning, haha. I hate SAAS with a vengeance. They tried to tell me that all I needed was £80 a month to live on this year. Uh. Like no. And then I had to get the uni's big scary financial man to go at them for me. But as long as you get your forms done as soon as possible, you should be okay. That gives them plenty of time to send you lots of stupid letters before whether or not you have the money actually matters.

Once more, I project to waves of pity for Higher Maths. Bedtime for me. Sleep tight, and fret not about UCAS!

If you don't mind me asking, what were your Higher grades? I'm sure you'll be fine to get in love.

I think Caledonian accomodation comes in at about £2000-£2500 a year, pretty average. Easy to cover by combining a loan with a Young Students bursary, or a job, or as I do to be super-rich, both! Oh, wait. You thought UCAS was fun? SAAS is going to rock your world. I think they may well be the most hated people in the universe.

I see what you mean about just getting in, it is a priority. And I am not by any means some Master of Games Courses. I've just heard so many horror stories from Cali and Paisley, and you seem nice and intelligent too, I'd feel bad if I didn't warn you. An art course in Paisley gave my friend a pass after she gave a presentation drunk (she was alreayd fed up, and wanted to get chucked out rather than leave), and she called it a day then. I know someone who left Cali after hearing a metaphor involving transformers and wires that began with the words 'Imagine the world's global electicity network is a bath.'

Though, in all fairness, none of these courses were game design. Cali may hold secrets! It's a nice looking place, right in the middle of Glasgow too.

Living away from home can/does cost money, but I would highly recommend it. Leaving the west coast and experiencing somewhere completely new was one of the best things that's ever happened to me. You feel so free!

You will love student life. Trust me. Don't be scared to leave high school.

I had some advices:

AVOID, at ALL COSTS, the Uni of the West of Scotland and Glasgow Caledonian. They will teach you nothing of worth, and the vast majority of the students at both institutions are stupid enough to drive you right back to Port Glasgow. I have field reports from 8 of their dropouts (3 Paisley, 5 Cali) to convince you if all else fails. Have you ever been to Paisley? Shudder.

Abertay is an excellent choice, however. My brother's probably going there. There's an awful lot of game design activity in Dundee, what with it being the birthplace of Grand Theft Auto and all. Pixar have a hub there too. If you want to get into games and arty computery things, Abertay and the city of Dundee really are the places to go.

It's a hard choice to make though, I don't envy you. I was so nervous when I had to do it. And I will die happy if I never have to write another Personal Statement ever again. Make sure to include some crap about how you socialise tonnes and do homework at the same time, apparently they like evidence of 'work/life balance.'

Haha, my version of authenticity is making a few spelling mistakes in the I'm Not Coming In email. I've never actually typed an email with a fever, it's harder to pretend than you think. We all used to sit around last year helping one another compose 'omg I can't beleive I cooked chicken wrong AGAIN' emails.

Hackney Road is just up the road from where I live. Right next to my old school. I don't recall there being a dentist there, but I know lots of dentists charge a few hundred for a filling replacement in London.

Ha... London + London Dentist = Rip-off Central.

Hey thanks for the rep! I can't stand chavs, but snobs are... ok - its when they go and stick their noses up at you because you say you live in a chavy place - London's Hackney where I live is sooo chavscum, its horrible!
