It make things a little easier on the staff I'll run down a list of all of the members that have already been banned and do not need to be reported. If you receive a similar PMs from a member that is not on this list please report it. Otherwise you don't need to worry they've already been stopped. Thank you for the help.

It seems like PMs where sent out at random using the PM systems auto complete feature when it comes to who the PM is going to.

Example: If I enter in G it will pull up everyones name with a G in it, at that point it is just picking an name out of the barrel and shooting.

Maybe your name caught their eye. It is unknown to me though. I doubt they where using the memberlist though seeing they sat on PMs and the main index.

Also I noticed that the one that was sent to me was also sent to alot of people who aren't active here anymore. Some had a 0 post count also.

Meh all this is speculation but seems to be the most logical explination as to why they "selected" the people whom they did.

Also if they where using the Member index the would of noticed I was staff and probably not sent me one.

This is all assuming it wasn't some bot.

Thought it was funny thought that alot of the people where inactive that the PMs where sent to. Email PM notifications are fun. I was at work when I got the notification over my phone.

Then again the staff had been watching this since this morning and it helped that some of the members took it upon their selves to make mention of it. I will leave out names but you guys know who you are and we are greatful for the help. Thanks yo.

Yeah, that is funny, I have received two from the above list. I thought they were sketchy, so I was going to report them, but they were already banned, and then I saw this thread, so all seems to be well. (I'm not totally inactive now, I just pop up at random times)

I clicked the link; it was a page urging me to download a torrent of Final Fantasy XIIII, or whatever. I closed the window straightaway, and needless to say did not go any further, and nothing untoward happened.

It was annoying to see these PMs when I logged in two evenings in a row, but happy to see swift action was taken.

I Recieved A PM About The Same Thing. It Was While I Was At School Checkin' The Forums Out During Lunch Time. I Read It, But Pretty Much Ignored It, Then I Went To check Meiers Page And Saw That People Were Telling Him About It, So I Told Him Everything I Knew About This, And I Was One Of The People Who Helped Stop Them, So I Am Very Happy That I Was Appart Of The Helping Out Process Of The WideSpread Situation. I Even Helped One Of The Paniced Members After They Had Recieved A Very Creepy Message Out Of The Blue. I Worked Together With Meier Link, And Aided In Stopping The Problem. I Know I Didn't Do Much, But I Hope What I Did Was Very Good, And Would Like To Recieve Some Thanks For That. Most Of The Credit Goes To Meier Link And The Rest Of The Staff Of TFF. I Take This Seriously, So I Knew I Had To Jump In And Do Something About This, Just Because I Truely Care About The Site And All Of Its Members.
