I liked it. It was better than Temple of Doom and below the other two.
People that didn't like it forgot what Indiana Jones is about. Pure escapism. There is no moral, no message, just entertainment. And it is hard to say it didn't deliver.
Hey guys, thought i'd start a thread on the new Indiana Jones movie that just came out yesterday. Having seen bits and pieces of the movie (since i work at the cinemas ), and due to patrons mixed responses of the movie, i honestly cannot make my mind up whether or not the movie lived up to the expectations of the majority of viewers. If anyone would like to highlight their own opinions of the movie, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Benny

Hey! Read my movie blog! http://centralfloridafilmcritic.blogspot.com
It was fun. But I would recommend seeing it with a large audience because it probably wouldn't be as fun as a renter. Unless you made it a big group thing.... see it with people.
And I just... okay...
SPOILER!!:
I don't think Lucas's obsession with green screen was something that helped the film.
SPOILER!!:
Haha and there were some lines that you KNEW Lucas probably wrote himself. What was that one line?
SPOILER!!:
I'm being very critical. I really did have a good time at the movie and if you can see it with a big rowdy audience like I did, you'll come out with a good experience. If you like that kind of thing, I mean. The movie was entertaining. There were just a few things that I can't help but poke fun at.
Curious?

Spoiler: Not aliens. Inter-dimensional beings. Get it right
I have to admit, it did seem a bit... I don't know what the word is, but it didn't seem to fit into the film. Still, I could see over that and really enjoy the rest of the movie. And yes, I'd agree, to some extent it's better than Temple of Doom, or at least on par, but not as good as Raiders or Crusade.
But yes, Crystal Skull was freaking awesome. Anybody who thinks otherwise.... deserves to have a negative criticism pointed at them.
Back. For a while. Maybe.

****, spoilers take forever.
Spoiler: I too hated the alien idea. The beauty of the previous films is that it was based on Christian legend, which a lot of us know something about.
Spoiler: I didn't like the green screen either. I could tell in the trailers that there would be a lot of it. The previous films looked better, and they are twenty five years old.
Spoiler: I hate exposition, so the part where we see pictures of Henry Jones Sr. and Marcus and Indiana tells us they are dead annoyed me. It was just bad.
I like how they brought back the theme of useless Indiana Jones, though. If you think about it, in Raiders of the Lost Ark, the Last Crusade, and this one, Indiana does nothing. The enemies still get what they wanted.
Spoiler: Raiders of the Lost Ark and Last Crusade gave the bad guys their comeuppance for disobeying God. They open the Ark when they are supposed to and cross over the seal with the Cup of Christ when they were told not to. Why did the alien kill Cate Blanchett? She was supposed to receive power. They copied the end of Raiders in this one, but Raiders did it better, with Indiana knowing to close his eyes. Indiana survives by running away? Lame.
Also, Cate Blanchett was beautiful in this movie. I like Russian girls.

It wasn't bad, it wasn't what i expected but it was good.
It left me with a numb rear. I think the mistake is comparing it to the earlier films. I think it works well enough as a stand-alone. I think it's a good effort but I would have liked to see Ray Winstone in it a bit more. Mac just isn't well defined enough for my liking.
It's a pretty strong effort though, and by the amount of people in my cinema screening tonight should perform very well for Mr. Lucas.
I'll enclose my post in a spoiler since in my rant I'll me meantioning a lot about the film.
Spoiler: Firstly can I say: Aliens? WTF?!?!?!?! I was left rather annoyed by this change for Indiana. I could understand Christian legend or indian myths but this took it too far in my opinion. Sure the film was based round that part of it but it all seemed to over the top. Hell, even the flying saucer at the end. My god! Me and my friends couldn't help but laugh and rip it to pieces.
Secondly, the film screamed cheese. Although it had that usual Indiana feel about it, I felt as if I was drowning in foam cheese being radiated by the screen and some points (espicially that ending). Yet even though I do rant about the films flaws (or at least the ones they were in my opinion) I did enjoy it. I can't however say it was better than the previous three though. The old ones will forever be classsic to me.

So basically, Josh, you're saying it was an outrageously funnily far-fetched ball of cheese? Nice.
I'm seeing it with my Dad on Friday. If there really are aliens, then my George he's going to love it. He'll most likely laugh the entire cinema down. Bye-bye, Cineworld.
As for me...I honestly really don't wanna see this film. It's not my thing. >.> But I want to see my Dad, and he wants to see it, so...yeah. It better be darn-arse worth watching.
it spoiled everything about indiana jones like ever. As soon as they opened the big silver case (WARNING SPIOLER) i shouted ALIENS and yes at the end the cheeseness of a big golden throne room with silver alien skelitons sat in and then the spaceship comeing up from the crown WTF??? Realy i thought it was such a bad film. Indiana Jones + Aliens = Disaster, at least thats what i thought

well accually, only one of the previous movies was based on christian legend.
raiders - jewish
tepmle of doom - hindu
crusaders - christian
Spoiler: on the note of jones sr and marcus being dead, would you rather not know what happened to them? that leaves something called a plot hole. and its not like they spent half the movie talking about them, it was a mearly 2 second reference.
why can people not care about religous mythology but get all enraged about aliens?
if you acually pay attention to the plot, this movie is also based on religious mythology, hint: myan.
and its not like the aliens were that much oflet down, atleast it wasnt like every other alien movie thats been done to deadth (when they always come to earth to salvage the environment for their own use.
why did the alien kill cate?
the alien could subconsiously see all that was going on being that one of it's skull witnessed the entire movie. if you were gonna give ultimate power to someone, would it be to someone like her? who lied, cheated, and killed to get it? i dont think so.
i really dont see why people hate this movie so much, just because its alittle different from the first three. and also, on a certin level its supposed to be chessy, why else would they still have those redioulus noises when ever someone gets punched?

another thing that bothered me was that people should ave known what the movie was about before they saw it. i mean, im no theologist but how could you not know what the movie was about knowing that it took place in the 50s, in the mayan empire centering the CRYSTAL SKULLS.
does anybody even watch the history channel?

It is the best of the series!!! It is soooooooooo AWESOME! I found out that it is true that there are skulls like that found in South America. It can cause a severe power outage for miiiles! It was said on 9 alive news soon after the movie. Don't believe me!?? Look on google.
When I watched this installment to the legendary movies... first I was a little stunned. It wasn't at all what I was expecting. It all seemed so far fetched... So I decided to look back on some of the other Indiana Jones. Okay granted... they push it a bit as well...
I love Indiana Jones. (I love Harrison Ford). And the movies have always been a favourite of mine! But this one took a bit of adjusting to. BUT. In the end I kinda like it...
I like alien stuff... I love Indiana... so why not put the two together? ^~

Yeah man, I believe everything on the internet too. Honest.
Like James said earlier in the thread, it was a good, entertaining movie. I don't understand understand why people are upset about all of the CGI usage, I mean realize who is directing the movie, Lucas and Spielberg lol. But people need to not take the movie so seriously, All of the Indiana Jones movies are supposed to be those B-rated action packed flicks from back in the day. It was a genuine attempt at an Indiana Jones sequel, and I liked it. I also liked the time gap between the movies, both for their time era and ours.

hahas, updated July 28th (oldie but goodie!):
I think Spielberg let Lucas have too much influence on this movie. I mean, the other three films in the series had something to do about history, but this one was about aliens. It was almost as if Lucas convinced Spielberg to combine Indiana Jones with Close Encounters of the Third Kind. It was a good movie, but it was just so much different from the other ones. The only part that I didn't get was how a refrigerator could save the guy from a nuclear bomb. That was kind of... ridiculous.
What the ****?!?! I found people who actually liked this piece of crap ?
This movie was a ****in disgrace, a real piece of shit i dont know how it fooled you people.
Someone even said it was better than one of the previous installments? Are you ****ing retarded or just that easily entertained?
Seriously, i have never in my life been more disappointed with a movie... ok transformers was a disaster too but **** me!
So many things wrong with this movie, and the alien ending is just the icing on the cake
I honestly didn't like this movie. The Indian Jones franchise was about adventuring in the exotic places of the places of the world, not mulling over sci-fi trash. Are you serious, Speilberg, Aliens??? Why?!?!?! I know you did E.T. and War of the Worlds and you're practically best friends with Lucas but ALIENS in a Indian Jones flick???? That just made me uncomfortable, especially seeing the UFO at the end. Lastly, judging by the ending, Speilberg is going to eventually make Shia LaBeouf the new Indiana Jones after Harrison Ford ends it........no, just no.
The crap script, aliens, annoying boy swinging through trees with apes, aliens, the interrigation scene where indiana jones all of a sudden has a history of working with cia etc (he was a archaeologist ffs), aliens, the over use of poor CGI... THE ENTIRE MOVIE! AAAAAAHHHHH
The only thing ill give it is that Ford was entertaining, but not enough to carry the movie.
Que South parks take on Indiana Jones 4
All I have to say is the first 3 movies were much better than the 4th one but I still liked it even though that is a slim like.
I found the movie pretty awful. The first twenty minutes or so were the most unintentionally hilarious moments of any movie I had ever seen. It's an old movie, but I'll still spoiler tag so that people don't get sad.
Spoiler:
First you start out with the gun battle in the warehouse that has a huge magnetic field. They use the gunpowder to find the Skull, and the magnetic force is somehow arranged so that it cleanly goes down the aisles of the room, which was hilarious in itself, but then once they start using the weapons trying to fight, suddenly the magnetic field didn't affect the bullets at all, which have a much higher velocity, and therefore should be subject to a much greater magnetic force. Really?
Then they escape, and he gets to the nuclear test demonstration and survives a nuclear blast in a refrigerator. I don't even need to explain this one.
Then (and this is the part that only I found funny, but I was rolling out of my seat laughing), he gets picked up by FBI agents. One of these FBI agents is Neil Flynn, better known as the Janitor in Scrubs. So, every time he tried to be serious and menacing, it reminded me of that, and I fell over laughing.
Beyond those parts, I didn't actually mind the alien stuff. I did mind the fairly poor script, the awful awful character better known as Shia LeBeouf, and how eyerollingly cheesy most of the movie was.
