The Curse of The Golden Flower vs. Hero?

Now, I haven't seen The Curse of The Golden Flower yet, but I love and adore Hero. Probably one of my favorite movies of all time. I love the fighting sequences more than anything, the twists, the setting, the costumes, the actors, the music, the plot...uh, I love everything needless to say.

Now, my question is for you Hero fans, or even those of you who haven't seen Hero, how good is The Curse of The Golden Flower? Since it was made by the same people who did Hero, and the previews look amazing, I am expecting something completely on par with Hero, if not a million times better. It looks so amazing.

My boyfriend and I are going to see it on Valentine's day, and we are beyong excited, but I figured that I'd ask you guys before hand:
How did you feel about the movie?
    Was the plot good?
Were the fighting scenes well done?
and, How does it compare/contrast with Hero? which is better?

I'll post my thoughts once I see it next week assuming it's worth seeing of course!

And I MUST ask that you PLEASE mark your spoilers! I haven't seen the movie yet, and I don't want ANYTHING to be ruined!!

    Thanks so much guys!

Heh, I didn't know that the movie was made by the same people who did Hero. I'm definitely gonna have to see it soon to have the verdict for myself. Hero is without a doubt one of my favorite movies too, the first time I saw I saw in theatres i was floored!

A little off topic but if you liked Hero you guys should check out director Yimou Zhang's other recent film, The House of Flying Daggers if you haven't already seen it. A little weak on the story line, but the visuals in the movie are one of a kind. Definitely worth seeing if you liked Hero, it seemed to be a lot more well received than Hero, but I still think I like Hero more overall.

But heh, I'll comment on the movie when I see it for sure. Rottentomatoes have some reviews of it up already but I always like to judge movies for myself.

I can only say one thing about both movies. They are lame.Eventhough Hero was quite good, they overdid it with almost everything. The characters' movement is s fake that i wanna cry everytime i even think about it.It's as if they had rockets implanted in their "behind".

Anyways i don't want to ruin it for you,it's just my personal opinion,I don't really like that stuff, but since you're into it,whatever...(I'd go watch South Park)

See, that's what I liked about Hero. I liked the gravity-defying near-impossible, overly techincal fight styles. That's my favorite thing about all of Hero. It's impossible, obviously, but that's what makes it look so cool. it's like Star Wars...all of that is impossible, but it's still cool.

And...for the record, I hate South Park I've never really seen the appeal in that show, yet all my friends love it. Whatever floats your boat I guess

I was torn on this one, both movies provided an excellent story and some kick ass martial arts. I for one like some gravity defying stuff, but not a whole lot. I didn't like in Hero that he dies in the end, Jet Li doesn't die, he's freakin immortal. As for the Curse, it had a crazy indepth story, with betrayal and secrets and awsomeness. I went with Hero in the end.

Curse of the golden flower/The city of golden armour is pretty cool but in some parts it's boring.I haven't seen Hero yet but I'm pretty sure it's a good movie since Jet Li is in it

To decide it really depends on what you're into. If you want a movie that is going to have a really cool story that is always going to keep you guessing. Then I'd go for Curse of the golden Flower. However, if you're looking for a movie that has a decent story, romance, and great martial arts fighting then I would pick Hero.

I loved Curse of the Golden Flower, but I haven't seen Hero yet. I might have to check that movie out so I could make a less biased judgement. But I voted for Curse of the Golden Flower. It's beautiful to watch, suspenseful, and Chow Yun-Fat makes a great emperor. He just has that sort of aura about him, I guess.

It is kind of messed up that the step-mother has a "thing" for the crown prince (her step son), and there is a scene where the Crown Prince finds out a secret about the girl he is in love with that's pretty messed up as well. But it's a really good movie, and it is very pleasing to the eye as far as visuals go.

Both movies are really good and it is really hard to pick which movie I like better. I may have to go with Curse of the Golden Flower. I felt really sorry though for Prince Jai's army, but I was amazed on how quick Chinese Imperial servants can clean a battlefield.

I like how the color changed in Hero's story and feel for Sky as he is the only one to survive out of the plotters. Their abilities are supposed to be "ancient arts that have been forgotten" a somewhat fantasy setting. Those things should be expected in a wuxia film.

I'll also add that House of Flying Daggers was also a good film; my friend said it was all story and very little action. When I watched the movie it had plenty of action; my friend likes to exaggerate.

I like to throw this out here, Ong Bak 2 is supposedly coming to the U.S fall 2009 (for any Americans reading this); another film starring Tony Jaa. If you haven't seen or heard of him watch Ong Bak and Tom-Yum-Goong/ The Protector (be careful about there is a movie starring Jackie Chan called The Protector as well). They are very good martial arts films and you won't be disappointed. In Ong Bak they do not use any wires or CGI at all! In Tom-Yum-Goong they do use CGI for a helicopter scene, dream sequences and another scene, but I found Tom-Yum-Goong to be better.
