    A Christmas Carol

So, today, I went with my folks to see A Christmas Carol in IMAX.

Overall, it was pretty good. There was explicit detail and voice work in this movie. I think Carrey's voice changed, because I hardly recognized it at all. This movie looked amazing though, you can see every little bit of detail on all of the characters, and they used classical Christmas music in the background throughout the whole movie. Nice touch.

It follows the same story set-up by Charles Dickens (of course), so there's not many new things to discuss here. Even though it was IMAX, there wasn't a whole lot of "in your face" moments, but I didn't really mind that.

This movie does seem to add some new things to this movie. (Or at least, I've never seen this before.) One such involves close to the end...

    Spoiler:
There was this extremely morbid scene involving the Ghost of Christmas Present, in which the ghost dies in a creepy way, and then the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Be shows up. He's in shadow form almost the whole time, creeping into reality only to drag Scrooge closer to his epiphany.

The effects are really amazing, and the parts where they fly all around the city are awesome. I was a little amazed this old man can handle everything he went through...

    Spoiler:
Fell on his back, landed on his face(twice), fell from the Stratosphere, landing on his bed o_O, falls slowly down a large staircase, and of course...

...Falls hundreds of feet to his fiery/hellish casket. O_o All in one dream...

Of course, with every up... there is always a down. The Ghost of Christmas Past is honestly laughable.

    Spoiler:
    He's a frikkin candle... -_-

I also have the say the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Be(or Death) is not really scary enough. As I mentioned, he's a shadow for most of his appearance, he almost never becomes three-dimensional, but he's still quite creepy, and its my favourite arc of the story.

As for the end... they kind of break the fourth wall when Kratchet (I don't know how its spelled) speaks to the audience, and it kind of fastforwards through Scrooge's newfound warmheartedness (not sure how to describe it. ) I kind of hoped for something else, but I guess its the same conclusion.

In the end, I still quite liked this movie, if not for the 3-D aspect, surely for the detail, voice acting, and certainly the music score. Not sure if I'd buy it, though. It seems like one of those "one-time" deals.

So, anyone else see this movie, and/or have similar views? If not, you should go see it. It's definitely worth a look-see, I think.

I'm going through a bit of a The World Ends With You phase right now.

I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you over the sound of AWESOME.

I don't care for Jim Carrey and I probably won't see this movie. I hear it looks pretty, but so long as it doesn't contribute anything new to the classic story, I'll stick with my Muppets.
Let's go into the "archives" in "Washington D.C." and find out how people "masturbated" in the "roaring 20's."

    I second Polk's post.

That movie was FANTASTIC! Great musical numbers (here's my fave!), really good pacing, and it had Michael Caine and the Muppets.

How could ANY other movie about "A Christmas Carol " top this one? It can't. And any that try fails for even trying to do so.

And, I'll stick with "A Christmas Story", I watch it every year on Christmas, when I'm opening my Red Ryder BB gun

I'm thinking about creating a hybrid. A dolphin-monkey. Half dolphin, half monkey. Do you think it's possible?
I was thinking that since I'm artificially creating it, I'll create it with rocket fuel instead of blood, and thus it will be able to fly, using the dolphin's dorsal fins as wings. And from the air, it will look down upon us all and protect us against sharks, and search for bananas.

Ive never seen it but i love Jim Carrey. I love the fact that they put 100% of his own body movement into the film. I love the older version of the story. The Mickey mouse one was the first and is my favorite.
