    Best Horror Series?

What do you think the best Horror series Franchise is?

Do you like the trippy nature of a Nightmare on Elmstreet, the straighforward slasher like Friday the 13th, the more purposeful element in Halloween, the pure brutality of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, or the psyschological rollercoaster of Saw?

I've got to go with Saw. And Saw VI is coming out soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!

I love the psychological horror, the plot twists, the word play, the traps, the characters, the story, I LOVE SAW! I want to be able to summon Jigsaw or at least make him my familiar.

The other movie series don't do it for me, they're mostly about the gore, the blood, and the occasional side-boob (and you better not like it because that is Peter's side-boob ). with little story.

    Main series FFs Beaten - FF: 4x, FFII: 3x, FFIII: 3x, FFIV: 3x, FFV: 3x, FFVI: 4x, FFVII: 5x, FFVIII: 5x, FFIX: 3x, FFX: 4x, FFXII: 3x, FFXIII: 2x, FFXV: 2x

I agree that Saw as a series is pretty good. You just have to place yourselves in the shoes of one of Jigsaw's victims and it's scary as all hell.

BUT!!! How can you not go with the Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Did you see the original? It is the scariest, most brutal film I've ever seen, and completely believable. That crap could happen, and what's even more creepy, is it probably has.

I'm not big fan of horror movies , not because they're scary just the opposite most of them are not. From this poll I'll chose the same as Zargabaath, Saw series would be the best horror series I've seen so far. The story and characters are great and the traps are simply genius. As for the rest in this poll, not sure why but I'm not quite fond of them.

While the overall series is not the scary, I think Jaws (the original movie) has the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre beat, Jaws made people afraid to go into the water; I don't think the Texas Chainsaw Massacre made people afraid to go into Texas.

I don't think I've seen one rated "R" movie that didn't show boobies.

I like watching scary movies, but I don't think I have a favorite.
Hmmmm? no Chucky or Jason? I used to hate Chucky when I was little.

First of all, Friday the 13th and Elm Street are not horror films. Horror means to strike fear in the audience. They are more like cartoons. We root for the slashers because the "victims" are usually annoying jerks or do some sort of bad deeds that get punished, and we're like "Hell yeah, about time he/she died."

...That is not horror. Halloween, however, is horror. The original, anyway.

Saw isn't Horror either. It's torture porn. It gives the feeling of repulsion and disgust, not fear.

Although I'm not going to vote on the poll because I've never really seen TCM or 28.

Jason = Friday the 13th. It's on the poll. Also, Child's Play isn't horror. It's more comedy with a serial killer as the pro/antagonist.

Oh, I didn't know that Friday the 13th was the same thing

The newer Chucky's were kind of comical, like Bride of Chucky, but the one's after that were crap.
What was the other one I saw? I think it was like Freddy and Jason in Space or something? How random and stupid was that

I guess I haven't seen too many "horror" films then.

I think Saw definately qualifies as Horror. Try watching that in the middle of the night by yourself. It's not just gruesome disguest, but more psychological terror. Esspecially the first one. Just imagine yourself waking up in a dingy bathroom and your options are cut your own foot off or die. What a horrific choice. That was an outstanding movie. Very cerebral.

I must second Locke4God's assessment it is psychological horror and there is more than one type of horror films. Saw being a "torture porn"? That is not true whatsoever, Saw does have one trap/test that I remember, where the trap/test could be considered as "torture porn", if you want a better movie series that exemplifies "torture porn" try Hostel. Psychological horror is different than the random scary moment that makes a person jump. In Bravo's top 100 scariest films of all time a lot of the films were psychological horror; those films are about placing yourself in the victim's shoes and most likely knowing the victim's situation you would be scared as well. And the people they used for their opinions were people in the horror movie business so it would be safe to assume they know what they are talking about.

Kudos on including 28days/weeks later. Definitely my favourite for their realism( relatively speaking, of course). Though I found your omission of George A.Romeros "of the dead" franchise a bit bewildering. And when it comes to horror, I find the Japanese films far superior( ringu trilogy, ju-on:the grudge), just never mind the remakes. And I do think Saw doesnt deserve its lofty position. Its just gore for the sake of gore.

Am I the only one that thinks the Saw series is completely played out? I stopped watching after the third one and haven't bothered since then.

My favorite horror franchises off that list is Halloween, Friday The 13th, and A Nightmare On Elm Street. I also like 28 Days Later but haven't watched the other ones yet.

EDIT: And I liked the first two Child's Play movies and Bride Of Chucky. Seed Of Chucky was a complete joke.

While I do agree Locke that the original texas Chainsaw Massacre is the better than the newer I think that the Halloween series is alot better...I feel its better because of the story mostly and Michael is obviously the shit...And when I talk about Halloween I mean the original's not the new Rob Zombie remakes, they are okay but the originals are way better...

I can see if you're played out on Saw. I think maybe they should have stuck more with the them of the first, where you're dealing with 1 or 2 guys in a simple trap the whole movie. I guess that wouldn't work over and over, so I get why they moved beyond that, but the first movie was just stellar. The next 5 just flesh out the backstory for all of the questions you're left with after the first, which is fun if you really liked the first one.

Now parts 3 & 4 are esspecially interesting I thought. I mean the films overlap eachother which was a really cool conept. I've never seen sequels run concurrent with one another. And I think 5 did a really good job setting up how there was a replacement for Jigsaw. Early on it just seemed dumb to have Amanada succeed him for no reason, but what they ended up doing with Hoffman really makes sense, at least reasonably. And they worked everything into the backstory and it just fits really nicely.

I've been impressed with the writing for such a low budget horror film.

Y'know, if we're going by if a movie scares us or not as the qualifying factor for whether it as a horror movie, then probably most would not qualify when judged by adults. We know it's not real, and don't have the over-active imaginations of a child. Halloween? Are you kidding me? Sure, it was the first one, but was it scary? There was some inexplicably strong, immortal, and insane manchild who was running around killing people. How did he get so strong in the insane asylum? Not that Jason made much more sense, I suppose.

My favorite horror series are George A Romero's "Of the Dead" and Sam Raimi's "Evil Dead" series. "Of the Dead," because they have interesting social commentaries and are often more about people vs. people than zombies vs. people, and "Evil Dead" because they're funny (at least 2 and Army of Darkness are) and Bruce Campbell is the man. Of the ones you listed, I'm not really sure. The first Saw, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Texas Chainsaw Massacres were all good, as was 28 Days Later (I never saw 28 Weeks Later or The Hills Have Eyes.) Maybe Nightmare on Elmstreet, as it doesn't take itself all that seriously. Anyhoo...

Out of those; Saw. Granted VI was pretty bad in my opinion, and it wasn't like Jigsaw to have one person die and the other live, but the previous Saws were brilliant imo. Had a great plot.

They're planning a Saw VII, if you're interested... ¬¬ I'm not, after seeing VI.

Halloween I liked, but Rob Zombies re-make was just a way of showing how hot his wife is (as usual) and involved too much sex (it's a horror!) So I condemn that as a failure. II was unnecessary to even make.

Is it just me, or are Horrors not scary? Just gore. Nothing has scared me in a movie except one event when I was 7. Japan make good horrors, and can at least shock you, unlike the once again cliché style that has lost any decent meaning in American made movies.

Gonna go with Halloween even though it hung itself. The rest were meh. Saw 1 was okay, after that they were all gore porn.
