What is the best search engine ?

Well there are allot of pop. Search engines such as Google, Ask, Ask Jeeves, and Dogpile. Any way what is your favorite search engine it does not have to be one of those? I like Google for stuff like history and ect. I like Ask Jeeves for Pic and stuff of that type.

Anyways what is your Fav. ?

Altavista is also cool, you can get a LOAD of crap off there. It's a tie between the two for accuracy, but I'm going to say google for the pure fact that it's just easier to use.

I use Google but mostly just for images. I used to use Wikipedia for information but half the time I would look elsewhere only to find the stuff on Wiki to be inaccurate. Never bother with others as Google does the job just fine.

Google is what I use. It's built into this neat toolbar so hey, why go somewhere else when it's right there. >.>; Yeah I know, I'm lazy. It gets results though so I can't complain.

I'm with Chez; Google and Altavista.

Google for the ordinary, every day searches. I use it the most to look for pictures, however; I rarely search the internet for anything else anymore, as per most the stuff I want to find can be found at a few big web domains anyway. I guess you can also search for videos through Google, but I never use it for that.

Altavista, I use to search for mp3's. People host all kinds of mp3's on their personal pages. It's great, although you can't find everything that way, obviously. Most likely just the most famous songs by a particular artist. Anyhoo...

I'd feel very unsure if I used another engine. Though I use wiki, answers.com, and howstuffworks.com on the side.

google's search algorithms are untouchable. not to mention the image search has been the key to the success of many anonymous humorous myspace comments. i'll google image search things like "slaughter" or "cute pandas!" or "helmouth" or "exploding planet" or "magical forest" - and you know what? it never stops being endlessly entertaining - the internet at its finest.

although i'm not down with the chinese censorship of the google image search,or how google ads is responsible for all the FFXI gil/powerleveling pushing on TFF

True I get alot of the pic I us for makeing sigs and avatars there. I love it and I did not think everyone like google well I was wrong hehe.

I use google. I've been using it my whole life basically. Plus, it is easy to use and sometimes the google banner would change to match the holidays!

I don't know others one and Google is best and probably first search machine that people get to know. And It doesn't so much competitors so people use it.

i like altavista its just a plain search engin nothing extra. i like it because its my first choice, then comes google. i have no clue h what happened weather this is a new thread (i hope its not) if it is im sry i ment to reply to someone.

i would have to say dogpile because you can search for something then narrow it down to an exact search of what you want

That's very true.

You can search for the exact filetype you want if you wish to look at something. That's a major plus and one of the reasons I use altavista.

I find that google sometimes loads a little faster than sites altavista provide, though. And a LOT of Altavista websites lead to yahoo adds and whatnot. Just some very useless things at times.

Google and Altavista are still my choices, though. (Google is just something I'm more likely to use for a search, hard or easy to find.)

Altavista is used on an occasion where I need specifics.

I would have to say goog jus tbecaus eI use it most of the time besides using either Yahoo or Wikipedia as well. Google is really reliable espicially with helpful links and good images as well, but the again other search engines are somewhat alike too.

Oh man, I used to use Yahoo! a lot, but I really
liked the simple design of google - eventually that
made me use it a lot more. I also like google cuz it
ryhmes with Moogle.

But yeah, there is no search engines like da Google. Once I had a Firefox plugin that let me search on Yahoo and Google simultaneously but after this modern Firefox 2X it was lost

You can find anything on Google, but it is not the search engine for bogans. Yahoo! is the search engine for bogans. That said, if it's just information you're after wikipedia has loads, as well as external links to more reputable sites for most searches. And yeah if you're looking for something specific Altavista can be quite good.

Coincidentaly. Anyone used the search engine on ninemsn. Good grief, it's crap. No matter what I looked for, the results were pitiful.

Definitely Google for me as well. It's just a simple page which always has the best results for me. I used to always use Yahoo but their home page is covered with heaps of crap, it takes ages to load if you have dial up! Google was always good with that since there's barely anything on the page. They also make their logo different whenever a holiday comes around and such.

I don't have dial up anymore though but I still prefer Google. I have for a few years now. It's simple but highly effective.

There was another search engine I saw once.. it was good because beside the information of the site, it had a small picture of the site as well. I guess that was pretty handy. I can't remember the name of that engine though!

I have been playing around with AltaVista a lot lately and I must admit, it actually churns out more accurate results than google does. The only flaw it has is that in doesn't show the image separately like google does. However other than that tis excellent for looking for a quick porn fix. (opps, I seem to have accidentally hit enter)

I normally use Google, but Yahoo is pretty good too. I think Google will get my vote. It is a nice search engine and has almost every site in their search engine.

You're talking about Yahoo

In 1996, AltaVista became the exclusive provider of search results for Yahoo!

Simple, the better search engine will return more hits than the other.
