I really should post up my new Silent Hill 3 ending stats. I finished it in just over five hours... I'll post the stats when I can be bothered.
    I thought it was SH2, I just wasn't positive.

Oh yes, now I remember. Angela - the girl that was running about but didn't see the monsters that everyone else did. I often wondered if she were dead - y'know, since she seemed to have killed her father..Perhaps she killed herself in guilt? I can't see any other reason why she'd be in limbo like James.

For awhile, I thought sVhe'd leave Silent Hill with James, until she goes up those stairs at the hotel (y'know, the ones that are on fire. That looked..uh..cool to me).

    That kinda made me mad...
Blah blah blah, read the spoiler.

    Spoiler:
Pyramid head is a representation of the 'executioners' of the Valtiel sect. With this in mind, he can be seen as a representation of Alessa's desire for revenge upon the townspeople of Silent Hill in the movie, rather than the purpose of self-puninishment and sexual frustration [his representation in silent hill 2]. He can be seen in other ways as well - possibly as Alessa's practically nonexistant father - a protective character that kills the townspeople for abusing Dahlia and Alessa and Alessa's reimagining of what her father may have been like, coupled with her negative experiences with men (i.e. Colin).

Can we have a chat about the creepiest and most intriguing enemy of every Silent Hill game for a while?

    ...Nurses.

I want to talk about the bandages around their faces in Silent Hill 1 and 2 first... Why are they bandaged? They're all created from Alessa's mind, but... what exactly are they there for?

    I know it's fitting for there to be nurses in a hospital and even demonic nurses in a demonic hospital, but the question is;

    Why the bandages?

Are the faces hidden because of pure cliche; or is it to hide the personal demons of the main characters?

In Silent Hill 1; Harry really had nothing to hide; so why?

In Silent Hill 2, though, James hid the fact that he...

    Spoiler:
    Killed his wife.

He hid it from himself so that he wouldn't have to face the pain of living life without her... Maybe behind the bandages represent the fact that he lied to himself and tried to keep his secret hidden.

What a way to have it bite you on the ass, James! On the other hand, it wasn't right for him to lie to himself and keep something that big behind closed doors.

I do pity him, though... I he tried so hard to dream up a false pretense of his wife, and he only half succeeded. Poor James. I think he and Pyramid Head should have a nice big hug. I guess he really did love her, despite his slightly cold facade...

Anyway, back to the topic of nurses.

Anyone like to clear the bandaged head thing up?

    I'm looking at you, Daddy.

I always wondered that, in the first one the nurses are all demonic looking because of....
    Spoiler:
    Parasites

so maybe that is why they are bandaged, but other than that i have no idea..

My guess is it has something to do with Lisa...

    Spoiler:
On the first one when she started bleeding, being a nurse she probably tried to prevent it to her but the other nurses had failed.

As for James did he really want to confront his mistake or was it more like he knew he did something wrong and he didn't want to deal with it but it kept nagging at his brain he just had to do something?
    Spoiler:
Perhaps he blocked killing Mary out of his head so much so he became delusional making a false reality and she wrote that letter as kind of a dream about what she wanted or something but it accidently got mailed off and thats when he realized something in his head wasn't right so he went to seek it out, and the video revealed the memories of what happened

I don't know but what do you think? It is possible but how would he be able to go on that long? Thoughts...

NOTE; This post is MASSIVE. But it's interesting... soooo... if you have nothing to do, please try and get through it? I really want some opinions...

Hmm, interesting, but other than the fact Silent Hill is hell and limbo doesn't really have anything to do with parasites and whatnot... It could be, though. There are photographs I've seen that indicate somekind of facial parasite infestation. Question is... if your theory is proved accurate; why are these parastical beasts infecting nurses? Is it because Alessa thought of the nurses as parasites, or even scum?

No; this is actually because Alessa liked Lisa. Lisa looked after Alessa when she was sick and wanted to spare her from a horrible fate.
    ...But I guess
    Spoiler:
That it didn't work out so well in the end, since she wandered down into the hospital basement...

No. Mary's letter to James was non-existent. James, so desperate for his love to come back from the dead, became so depressed that he grew to the point of delusion. As a result, James woke up one day alone again and was reluctant to find a "letter" from "his wife"... He set off, with hopes that she was waiting for him.

    Of course,
    Spoiler:
    she wasn't.

Maria was a dancer at Heaven's Night (Lady Maria). James must've remembered her story as he set into Silent Hill, but instead of imagining her image, he imagined his wife, but with a nasty personality and a slutty dress sense (the personality of Lady Maria, perhaps?). It was obvious to see James hated this "Maria"; if you watch the video's closely, whenever she pouts or acts hopeless, James cringes. He hates how Maria is nothing like his wife, but inside he was hoping that she really was Mary. That's why he wanted to protect her -- because Maria reminded James of his wife because they had some tiny things in common.

For example, Mary's neediness. Toward the end of the game, James hears Mary calling for him, and then his mind blanks and goes back to a time where Mary snapped at him.

"I don't deserve flowers... Look at me. I'm hideous!" -- this being because of Mary's illness, which ate away at her emotionally, on the inside and outside. I have a picture of Mary when she is sick if you wish to see it. Her face is deformed.
And then "no... James... stay with me..." - Mary when James got up to leave. Mary needed James to be with her whilst she was sick. But he was too scared to be there much. Hence the "waiting for you to come see me again......but you never do..." Mary felt he was ignoring her. But instead, he was just scared.

Note James' wariness as he sees her in this state. He is scared because he knows she's going to die. And in result, was so upset that he...
    Spoiler:
Needed to put an end to her pain himself...

See, there is NO letter. It's just a piece of writing paper (it could've belonged to Mary, since she often wrote James letters when she was confined in hospital), James just wanted to believe she was still in hospital. The letter has no writing on toward the end.

As the writing fades away, the awful truth sinks in... She's dead. And...
    Spoiler:
    he's to blame...

He wanted to set right his wrongs, but he knew it was too late. But he insisted on a second chance.

In SOME endings in the game...

    ...James is sitting beside his wife;
    Spoiler:
She tells him she wanted to die and that she appreciates him for setting her free.

She also goes on to write a letter to him -- but it isn't summoning him anywhere. In fact; it states purely how happy she was when she was with him, how much of a burden she felt to him toward the end of her life, and how much she loved him. It's a very emotional letter that basically puts a red wax stamp on the end of Silent Hill 2.

    James then either...

    Spoiler:
Lives on in his own memory and fantasy that Mary is still alive somewhere.

    Or...

    Spoiler:
commits suicide, stating that Mary and he will be together in death.

    Or...

    Spoiler:
Forgives himself and then leaves with Laura; the little girl whom Mary loved and wished to adopt.

Although this has drifted off the original topic, Mary's illness DOES bring me back to the nurses.

Did James despise the nurses for all they had put Mary through?

Mary was friends with one of the nurses, and she kept letters from Mary to give to James after she died. But if you listened to the recording in the hotel, James is in desperation for his wife to live. He yells at a doctor for "letting" his wife become sick and eventually die.

James hated the idea of Mary being in a hospital where he couldn't look after her, but at the same time, he was frightened of her illness and he was frightened of what it was doing to Mary. And when Mary came home, James knew she was going to die. He was scared that he would awake to see his wife had died during the night and so...
    Spoiler:
He swore his love one last time and then set her free by smothering her.

I feel James hated the hospital and it's staff; that's why he had to endure the pain of the hospital, that and he was looking for Laura after he saw her scamper into the building.

Maria felt she needed to look after Laura. This must've surprised James somehwat, because this is another thing Maria and Mary had in common... The want and need to look after Laura.

I felt that was James remembering how much Laura meant to Mary and so he felt as a favour to his deceased wife, he had to look out for the little girl, too.

Laura was looking for Mary, yes? She went into the hospital, yes? James followed her. Inside the hospital, after having confronted...
    Spoiler:
    Pyramid Head

, the whole place turned evil. The nurses were demonic. . . . . .

Maybe James just wanted someone to blame other than
    Spoiler:
    himself...

So, sub-consciously, for a short time at least...he blamed them...

So yeah. Basically, James only liked Maria at all because of her similarities with Mary... He wanted his wife back, and that was that.

    Spoiler:
It's proved that Maria doesn't even exist at all anyway. She was a figment of James' imagination, a Mary-like woman whom was horrible to him to torture him for what he did to the wife he claimed to love so much.

But I feel he blamed the nurses for her death...

...This probably isn't the case at all. I'm hopin' some people will actually read the whole ****in' post.

    EDIT: Some mistakes cleaned up!

I didn't realize the letter was a fake, just thought that may have been why he got it. When you told me about Maria I always figured that he was trying to hide what he had done so he tried to act like it didn't happen. The whole insanity aspect of the series if you will...

Yeah I noticed that too, do you think he thought this was what he wanted so he ended up imagining her only to realize he didn't?

I've seen this happen before, people need something to re-assure their sanity, she was still in love with him right to the end and because of what happened I felt she was confused to what James felt.

It is quite a sad thing to happen but it understandable imo. It doesn't really show if he lived his life or not but I assume their relationship was something special henceforth he couldn't bare the pain of losing her so he imagined she died 3 years ago trying to say he had dealt with it but then he realized that even 3 years down the track he will still miss her.

This is the one I got, it goes kind of hand in hand as throughout the end of the game he realizes what has happened and perhaps even sees that she felt like a burden.

If the first one happened I feel it would of made the ending quite pointless to himself. If the second happened I wouldn't blame him but I wouldn't consider himself to be the type to do it, but as the game goes on I don't think he would fear death. I would say the last one would happen but that would depend on whether Laura would accept what happened.

I'll get to the rest at another time

Well, the nurses that Harry sees are supposedly insane, half-dead mindless creatues, right? Maybe Alessa didn't want to see Lisa end up that way, because she and Lisa shared a special "bond" if you will.
Alessa apparently didn't like the other nurses, and didn't care for their fate. Maybe she was "sick of the sight of them", if you get what I mean? So she bandaged their faces to try and block them out somewhat.

Do you mean that he wanted Maria to need him like Mary did? To try to somehow make it up to Mary if he looked after Maria? It's possible. But you're right. James didn't want that in the end. I think he exaggerated Mary's feelings of neediness; so much so that Maria turned out to be such a troubled mess who pouted and sulked to get her own way and to get protected from the monsters by a reluctant James. James realised Mary wasn't like that at all and then pined and needed for his love; therefore realising Maria was the last thing he wanted. That he had created a horrible monster (Maria) out of his exaggerations.

I agree. James loved his wife passionately and vise versa, but I think whenever he saw her so ill and weak, he knew her life was drawing to an end; breaking his heart to even look at her. I think that's partly why he stopped going to see her. I feel he deeply dreaded her home visit, because he knew she was going to die inside their marital home. (Which, I'm assuming, apart from Silent Hill, held many fond and loving memories for the couple.)

Yeah. I think James also felt life grated on slowly and painfully without her, and so it felt like three years rather than two or three weeks. James' feelings only worsened after her death. They didn't heal up or go away; he loved her more and more and so he only had hell to pay. He lived in a nightmare after her death.

I don't recall seeing it either, but many Silent Hill fans claim it to be true, so I assume they're telling the truth.

    Maria in Mary's clothing.

Think about it. James, either readily knew, or sub-consciously knew, that Maria was all just...
    Spoiler:
    A figment of his imagination,

and he saw Maria in Mary's clothing, indicating that Maria's provocative appearence and body language was unwanted. Mary was a very conservative dresser, and she was only ever intimate with James. James didn't want anyone else, so he set things right by...
    Spoiler:
Either sucumbing to his imagination and imagining Mary instead of Maria, or killing his imagination.

    (I hope that made sense.)

Yeah. See, Mary felt like a burden because James wasn't visiting her. She felt "if he doesn't come to see me, I must be troubling him... he must want nothing to do with me, blah blah blah, other negative feelings". If you get what I mean? I understand how Mary felt, though. Her life was ending. And her lover wasn't even by her side through her pain and suffering... it's heart breaking and painful. I really feel for Mary.

Desperation, maybe? Needing, wanting his wife. Perhaps leading himself to thinking that letter was actually a real letter and not an empty slip of paper...

Remember in the hotel? Angela begged James to give her knife back and he wouldn't let her have it. I feel on a personal level, he wanted to use it for himself. Think about it; Angela says "you're going to use it on yourself aren't you?" James hesitates and replies that he isn't the type to committ suicide. But he definately has a faraway tone in his voice. He is running through the suicidal possibilities. A death. Free of pain at last. He dreams and fantasizes about it even.

Those three endings are all possiblie endings in the game, apparently, so... yeah...

Man did I run off-topic. If you want to continue this chat in Wish House, though, I'd be more than happy to. After all, it's a healthy discussion, and others adding in their opinions and feelings is an amazing thing.

    Joy! Thank you!

And I've only really studied Silent Hill a little. I do know a lot aobut it, though, just by listening to the storylines and stuff. I also studied psycology, so I know a bit about James' problems. (Which is why Silent Hill 2 has my favourie storylines.)

Anyway, I did discover something new about Silent Hill 2 out! Want to know what it is??

    Of course you do!

Who else knew that James Sunderland turned into an alcoholic after Mary's death? If you want more of an insight, get to Heaven's Night, in the back room and examine the wine bottles near the stairs. James will say a few lines about his new-found alcoholism.

I'm wondering if some of his finding of the "letter" Mary "supposedly" sent him was his alcoholic side? And maybe when the writing begins to wear off of the paper, maybe that's him sobering up and turning crazy?

I mean, we all know that after Mary's death, James undergoes a MASSIVE psycological turnaround, but maybe his alcoholism helps to trigger some of his problems? Besides, everyone knows that when alcohol is consumed, it makes for a temporery happy drug, until the depression comes on.

Yes, alcoholism is known to induce feelings of depression and anxiety... what do you guys think...?

That is a very interesting theory, although I can't say much about it, since I'm just playing it now (yeah, I haven't beat it yet... my work sucks a pair...) Yeah, anyway, I'm sorry I haven't been on in a while...

Ohhhh my god, Chez. That is a massive post. I want to read through it all and see what it's about and chime in with my reply to your stuff, but I'm incredibly hungry and I need to go get food.

I still haven't finished up Silent Hill

Yeah, sorry! ^_^;;... I just have excessive amounts of stuff to say about the series.

    ...But is anyone else curious?

Did James have an alcohol problem? Did this sudden increase of alcoholism effect his already iffy state of mind?

EDIT: Here's some awesome stuff I found.

That first video was ****ing incredible! Whoever put that together deserves some sort of award. Seriously.

Now, let's get to that huge post of Chez's, shall we?

In SOME endings in the game...

    ...James is sitting beside his wife;

I ALMOST had the endings ruined for me! Good thing I scrolled away from it fast. I want to see them for myself!

Anyway, yeah, the alcohol problem is true. There is a point in the game when you first enter Heaven's Night that you can examine some bottles. James comments on his alcohol problem briefly.

As for Alessa and the nurses:

    Spoiler:
Alessa hated the nurses and just about everything else. I don't think there was anything deeply rooted with the nurses. She was young. Children hate doctors and nurses. This could easily be the reason behind the nurses. Alot of Silent Hill can be tied to the imagination of a child.

I can't remember: the second story in Sh2, the one where you get to play as Maria, how do you get it? I want to play it but can't remember if it's an extra in the game or if it's separate.

I know there is only one version for Silent Hill 2 on PC and it comes with the Maria half of the story. However, on PS2, the Maria story is only on the Greatest Hits version of the game.

*sigh* Sadly, I don't have the GH version of SH2. Stupid Xbox gets it...

Yeah, that's how I found out he had alcoholic issues.

Alessa liked Lisa, though didn't she?
    So she let her...
    Spoiler:
Go on to believe there was nothing wrong with her for a while.

I know that was a really sad part in the game, because you get to know her well, and you feel bad for her the whole time, and when she dies it just seems so unfair. but it makes so much sense, Lisa's denial shielding her from the other nurses because in life her addiction and her facilitation of Alessa's abuse was rationalized in her mind by denial. So in the afterlife, when she looks back and realizes what she had done, the truth comes spilling out...

Sorry I've been away for so long, but I'm still stuck on SH4.. >_< WHYYY WONT JASPER GO TOOO T3H WISH HOUSE????

Anyway, I am so happy. Happiness is flowing within me at the moment, the same kind of happiness you feel after watching Silent Hill (the movie) for the first, second and third time
It was AWESOMEMAZING!!!!! (Was that a new word BTW?) But it was the best movie I've ever seen in my mofo life. I just loved the ending when...
    Spoiler:
Alyssa came up into the church with all those barbed wires.

And the crew did an amazing job, not only with the script but also when making "dark Silent Hill". I just love it, love it love it love it. When I get home I'm gonna watch it soooooo many times

Uhhm... EDIT: Where can I find SH 1,2 and 3? I've checked the local crappy stores but nay... *looks around self*

Good to see you got Silent Hill! Love that film, it's fantabulous!

I loved the bit at the end as well! I loved how...
    Spoiler:

Ohhh there are so many sweet parts at the end of the film!

I love Alessa. If I could, I'd adopt her and spoil her with gifts. Why? Because she ****ing rules. I've said it before.

As for finding the games, Chez hit the nail on the head. Ebay, my friend. Ebay. That is your best bet. That is where I got SH and SH2. I lucked out and found a perfect condition copy of SH3 at Gamestop for like $24. I found SH4 brand new at Best Buy for $9.99. Silent Hill Experience came from Ebay, too. I'm getting ready to sell my psp, but not Silent Hill Experience.

I just let somebody borrow my SH2, which I regret. I have like that uneasy feeling now when I think about it. I don't like knowing that it's not here with me. Someone has my Hellsing boxset as well, which bothers me.

I hope I get that shit back soon. Like tomorrow soon.

In order to get Jasper to go to the Wish house, I think you need to explore the rest of the area first. Then you'll see him standing there where you'll need to give him the chocolate milk. I think Chez would know more specifically.

DV, you're probably missing something within the apartment. Take a look around. There are loads of places in the apartment that you may need to check out.

I love Alessa! If my boyfriend and me had a daughter, she would so look like Alessa. Obviously in the scene when she was in school.

I swear! She looks sort of like what our kid might look like.

If not... I'll MAKE my kid look like her! *crack knuckles* >_>

Anyway, though. I'm wanting the DVD still. Heh. I'm getting a job soon hopefully. On the other hand, I always say that...

Jobs are cool for money and that is about it, really. Ohhh, jobs...

Anyway. I know a girl that looks dead on like Alessa from the picture here in this post. It's crazy. If I can find a picture of the girl where she is standing just right, I'll add that, too.

Made me even happier to know her.

Uhhm in the appartment? I think I checked that the last time.. I walked around, I remember I was at the front door checking it out, tried to turn on the TV and radio and uhhm maybe I should check again, and leave the chocolate milk behind until he (maybe) asks for it.

I love Alessa too, if I only could find a decent pic in something like 1600x1500p or 2000x1800 or something like that.... If I could find SOMETHING even in 8x2p I would be happy.....
Alessa is just so awesome and Alucard that chick you know is similar indeed though she looks older than Alessa.

Hmm, I can't see MUCH resemblence between her and Alessa, but there is something there.

Anyway, in playing SH4 in the small snippets that I do, I've gotten to the point where
