Are you using a PlayStation 2 to play your Silent Hill 1 on?

That could be it. My PS2 doesn't play my Silent Hill 1, either. It has something to do with dirt and age... My SH1 works on my best friends' PS2, though... shame, I wish he'd trade with me.
