Spam (warnings) for everyone!

Starting today, as of this post, I'm going to start warning for posts less than 5 words long. We'll try it out for a couple weeks.

2nd edit: also what about just posting pictures? They're technically worth one thousand words, so are we ok with just posting pictures?

I kind of agree with the ten word rule.

I've been on forums with word/character limits. If the post is under 200 characters, you can't make a post. Something will pop up if you try. Is that possible here?

It used to be that way. But too many people complained that we weren't being lenient enough. That "this is general chat, we should talk about what we want how we want." So we tried to make the members happy.

But we go back and forth on this issue pretty often.

More content the better I say. Like IDs one paragraph minimum. Not hard to write just one and its not demanding to much in my opinion. Just a suggestion though. Maybe should of said this via PM.

It is what it is. I may have been referring to the Intellectual Discussion forum, but realized it isn't really in the GC. It's hard to make a decent sentence with just 5 words though. Unless you're really good with words. That's just my opinion.

I don't know if spam is really that big of a problem here. If anything I would say the post whoring and necro-posting. Which I see go on with new members for some time till they exhaust the topics they can give some input. Back in the day I was informally warned by Victoria for both. Which afterwards stopped. Recently, after a period of time of a member post whoring & necro-posting without any curb in behavior due to what I perceived as a lack of warning, I gave a friendly piece of advice to that member to curtail that behavior less they get warned by the mods.

On necro-posting, I know it can be unfair for new members who have thoughts on a matter yet can't post because the topic is too old. They can't recreate the thread or one of a similar topic or so I believe. So it puts them in sh*tter. If the time limit is 3 months then perhaps after that has passed the thread should be locked. Moved into an archives that way any member can look at them if they so desire. Just a suggestion.


As for the spam rule of 5 words I'm cool with that. I don't perceive getting a warning for that with the length of my posts (). But not every post needs to be long. It, the 5-word rule, still allows people to be themselves. Five words are not hard to come by.

"Me Gusta" means "I Like (it)".

Y me gusta es idea! I can't type the upside down exclamation point. I think that if you can't post a decent-sized post, then don't post at all. What I don't like are all of the short posts; and then in order to read the next one, I have to scroll down past this gigantic signature. I understand that your signature is a way to express yourself, but at least make your opinion worth me looking at it.

I think this is a great idea! Personally i love to read good, wholesome and well-written answers to topics raised in the forums. Aside from promoting one's opinion, it also serves to further showcase one's vocabulary and skill with words. I'm a bit of a sucker for the English language

Actually while your here, RavenZecht, I have something very important to ask you. Can you not change the size of your text? The colour is okay-ish in TFF Light, but on an iPod, it is near impossible to read your text. It's tiny. I have to pinch like twice and then scroll across your words.

It means "i like" or something its used alot in memes as far as I know. But yeah, i'm all for this rule it couldn't hurt to have it.

I think two lettered words should not count to the five or ten word post.

Where do you draw the line at necro posting I remember a time well after I passed my newbie exam and there was absolutely no interesting topics so I trawled the older posts looking for something to tantalize my brain.
Also on the necro posting doesn't it say in the forum rules that before you post a new thread you should search older threads and add to a thread of the same relevance instead of creating double threads about the same thing.

Actually on reviewing the new rules you can open a new thread if the old thread has been inactive for three months but it also says that the mods will close any threads that have been active for three months or more to prevent any necro posting in the first place, which would mean you would have two open threads of the same relevance.

Personally, I think the necro-posting rule is really stupid. I don't see what's so wrong with posting in an old thread, especially if it sparks up new activity. I think it's sillier to close an existing thread and make a new thread about the same topic, regardless of how old the other one is.

But anyway. I think this rule is alright, it's not gonna affect me very much because I think I tend to makes posts longer than five words most of the time. But I don't know if it's gonna solve many problems around here.

Another thing I don't get is nix still seems to be having a paddy. He asked for changed and he got it. So... huh?
