My FFT favorite job has to be the Geomancer/Monk combination. It's totally awesome. Well, then there's the Dragoon jumping ability.
Thus I revive again, as does this thread.
Like I said before, FFVII blew up in my face due to a retarded computer, so I started up the origional again. It was Psiko I think that first said he was taking the whitemage challange? Well, I did the same and it's pretty hard, I must say. I just got to Elfheim recently, so I've still got a long ways to go. Even so, I felt more like playing Tactics, so I put FFI asside for a bit to start yet another Tactics file. I never get tired of that game. So far, I think I'm going to go with Ramza as a Dragoon with Battle Skill, a Geomancer/Monk, a Ninja who's other fate is to be determined, a Bard, for the hell of it and finally Agrias. I don't know why, but of all the characters you get, I like Agrias the best, followed closely by Beowulf. T.G. Cid is just too powerful. I never like people who have every move available, they never have a niech. It's fairly different from my usual setup of using almost every gained character and setting Ramza as a samurai, but it should be interesting.
So, for a topic: we had the FFV favourite job question, let's do the Tactics one. Favourite Tactics job, lay it down.
Mine is close between samurai and Geomancer. The former has a million uses and the latter I just think are neat.

Until now!
My FFT favorite job has to be the Geomancer/Monk combination. It's totally awesome. Well, then there's the Dragoon jumping ability.
Well, after playing for a bit, I have to say that so far, (havn't mastered anything yet) that the jobs that I prefer the most are knight and monk.
I like the power and the double hit, although x-fight from the hunter, and giltoss are also topnotch. I'm working on mastering hunter on butz and faris right now, because I'm stuck on Ex-Death in Ex-Death's castle in world 2. He just keeps handing me my butt.
I just can't win.
Anywho, cp:

Hmmm...in tactics? Hard to say..though i mite have to say samurai again..or ninja. Once you get the characters with the special classes though the normal characters take a back seat. My final party i had Cloud as a Knight, Orlandu, and Ramza as a samurai/ninja hybrid.
You're right about Orlandu though..he is too powerful. You can literally send him into battles alone and have him win. I loved Agrias as well, i think i liked Beowulf even more though.

Calculator. It's hard, yes, but with the right circumstances, HOLY SHIT.
Okay, it's not really my favorite at all, but I am rather fond of it. My second favorite job in Tactics is Geomancer with a sub of Time Magic. It's great. When you're too far away to attack, buff with Haste on the party. When you're within distance attacking range, use geomancy. When you're close... WHACK!
The Geomancer in FFT was way better than the ones in FFIII or FFV.
And as if you even had to ask, my favorite favorite job combo in FFT is Dragoon+Squire, especially on Ramza since he gets the extra abilities. Fun shit.
In other, completely related news, I preordered Final Fantasy VI for the GBA and Castlevania: Portrain of Ruin for the DS (which comes out tomorrow!) today.

I unfortinatly havn't played FFT , But I have played FFT Advance. On that my Favourite job is the Templar because his armor and attack are as strong as any other fighting class except he can attack 2 spaces away instead of 1. Another favourite is the Animist, but only because of Sheep Count, which can put and entire group of enemies to sleep for a few turns, during which you can nuke them with black magic, without waking them up.
I should have had Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin today but it's been postponed from 5 of December to 21 of January, ARRGGG!!!!

I ALWAYS forget about that, heh. So yeah, anyway, it really goes back to the oldschool side-scrolling action. When the title was first announced, I thought they'd try to go the way of Castlevania 64 with it, especially since the title will be the first to really leave the castle and explore elsewhere. I was so happy when I discovered it would still be a side-scroller though. ^_^

Portrait of Ruin looks great..WW II setting and 2 player support? Good stuff if you ask me, i love the Castlevania series, i don't own a DS though so no love for me. I think that Castlevania is certainly best as a sidescroller though did actually enjoy castlevania 64 and legacy of darkness as well..though obviously it's not the same! I still love the SNES castlevanias the best..or else Sympathy of the Night. My original was Castlevania 2: Belmont's Revenge on the GB though.
Right now i'm not playing any console game..haven't picked up FF XII in awhile, though i think soon i mite b pickin up Grandia again and finish it. Ever since i got that game design club i've been workin a little more in RPG Maker 2000/2003 again too.
played any new Wii games loco? Wii Play sounds pretty cool, a sort of alternative to Wii sports. Though we arent getting it until sometime 2007
Haha i found this secret of mana character thing..thought it was a nice change from all the final fantasy ones you see around. Those tests are so crazy tho, just change a few answers and you get a different result. The first one i actually got was Dyluck, though i thought this one was a little funnier. I got Dyluck first, Watts, Sprite, then the Boy. I was actually honored to have Dyluck picked, to me he's one of those 16bit minor characters of legend along General Leo.

Well at least you don't need to wait until the end of January, and GLC TWO-PLAYER SUPPORT!! WOW!! if that really is true then Portrait of ruin will have to be the best Castlevania yet. Although sometimes games say they support two players just a commercial stunt to sell more copies, San Adreas anyone, that had the worst 2 player in existance. So GLC tell me more about this 2 player support, mainly will it require two game packs?Originally Posted by LocoColt04

The funny thing about our Wii party is that we are all only getting Zelda as our first game to what are we going to play together, oh that't right Wii sports. From what I've seen though it looks like it's just a hardware commercialiser (if that isn't a word I just invented it) and tester and appears to have that graphics of an N64. that's hilarious, i knew something was going wrong every time I was trying to write the name in it would end up being underlined for being spelled wrong. I guess i just went with a completely different word so atleast it wouldn't be underlined. I do deserve some old school lashings for that one i suppose, but i was pretty messed up while writing that if it counts for something.
It almost makes me want to get a DS too though..but probably not enough. I'm too broke as it is and have the Wii on the top of my list right now. Two player side scrollers are the best though, if anyone has played Goemon's Great Adventure on the Nintendo 64, you know what i'm talking about. My question to DS owners though, is it worth buyin the system? There are quite a few games i'd like to play but i'm not sure if there are enough. Has anyone played Contact on the DS? That's on the top of my list.
Well i'm back to playing Grandia again and am finding it a nice change from FF XII..so much different in every respect. Trying to find a good PC game to play when i stumbled across this game, Secret Files: Tunguska, a point and click adventure game like i have been craving!! So i'm definitely gonna have to check that out sometime.
Counting down till I can get a Wii..can't wait.
@Setertrancer, are you getting the extra controller too? Because isn't that how Wii Play is packaged? That game looks interesting. I'm really excited about the new Wario Ware game though.
And is anyone excited about Rogue Galaxy? As much as i liked FF XII, i think i may enjoy this upcoming RPG title even more. The battle system looks RIDICULOUS

I've played a bit of Rogue Galaxy, and I must say, I'm very excited about it. I'll definitely be purchasing that one when the full game is released.
Back a little bit on the Castlevania topic, I put up some pictures of the preorder package. I haven't played the game yet, but I'll definitely let you know what it's like once I do. As in, I'm about to put it in my DS right now and play it when I'm done catching up on TFF stuff.

Sorry for looking even further back in the thread for something to post about, but for those of you who have used and played games made by Rpg maker, have you guys tried the awesome game, The Way. It is a game, that's so good I would compare it to the Final Fantasy games, It has an incredibly well executed story line, a 100% custom ability system, a dueling minigame kind of like FFs card games called Plundging and very interesting characters. Other RPG maker games I recommend are A Blured Line and Final Fantasy: Endless Nova, these are all examples of some of the great RPG maker games in existance and are good enough to be released commercially.Originally Posted by GLC

I'm not sure if i have tried the Way, it sounds really familiar though. I have tried a lot of rpg maker games though so i probably have at some point. I remember quite a few having really original ideas like that though. I have played a Blurred Line though and was quite impressed. And i think at some point i looked into Final Fantasy: Endless Nova though i have never played it.
Well right now I am not working on anything too serious. I started working on rpg maker 2000 when i was probably about 15, kind of a result of having too much free time in highschool. I had a few projects working on..only two serious ones though. My main project was called Brendan's Magical Adventure. (Brendan is ny name). It wasn't something completely serious for sure but it was actually really well done. Basic premise is that a group of friends and i figured out that a few of our teachers were these evil monsters from another world. Later on you find a way into this world. Basically the evil world they are from is what i would call "videogameland" It basically consisted of a large handful of famous towns and locations from 16 bit games (and a good handful of original towns as well)
. I recreated Guardia Castle exactly how it was from CT though i did some sprite editing and made a king version of Crono to rule Guardia. Then i recreated a few different towns from FF VI, Earthbound, Secret of Mana, Lufia, Breath of Fire, etc. Basically the story goes that these evil teacher monsters are destroying all these videogame worlds and the few remaining towns are all thats left. So basically in the game you travel between the modern world and this videogame world. At the end, the videogame world goes away and all the worlds from the different games are restored and the towns go back to their respective worlds so FF VI towns and secret of mana towns are no longer in the same place. Peace is restored, and videogames are back to normal.
Basically it was a very lighthearted, charming game. It would best be described as a raunchier R-Rated Earthbound. I had a lot of fun easter eggs, crazy events and mini games within the towns as well. Plus, Dyluck isn't dead after all!!
In addition i was working on a game called the Journey of Odysseus based of the odyssey by homer. I wasn't as far into it as my main game but i was a good deal into it. If i ever finished it i was hoping to make a game for the Illiad as well though that would have been a lot of work becase a story like that would be better as a strategy rpg or something.
Then just for fun i tried working on a sequel to FF VI. Basically i didn't think of a story that much..i just spent my time recreating the maps and stuff before giving up. Narshe took long enough as it is. There are actually other FF VI sequel wannabes out there as well.
Anyhoo, this was like 3-4 years ago, after about a year of work or more, it was probably near completion, my computer crashed and i lost all my files. Later on i tried to start over with some new maps and ideas but probaly 3-6 months after i had to wipe my HD again. This time though, i did manage to burn a very early version of my second attempt to a disc. But of course i can't actually move or edit those files from the disc but i can play the one map that i have as my start point.
So basically with all this trouble and years of work down the drain, plus leaving highschool and becoming more busy i stopped working on it for years.
It's probably been 3 years since ive seriously worked in rpg maker. Right now i'm just toying around creating maps and trying to get the creative juices flowing. I feel so rusty after not working with it for so long. I'm definitely not doing anything too big or ambitous right now
I'm kinda messing around with a game i call Acid Adventures. Basically it's a bunch of random psychedelic acid incuded experiences that at the end of the game tie into something bigger. Drug induced role playing, I don' think it's been done before!!
Anyhoo, i have a few screenshots up in the Game Designers thread of a map in the tsecond version of Brendan's Magical Adventure as well Acid Adventures. I might be putting more up soon. I wish i had some from the first version, those were extremely impressive.

That sounds cool, I'd definitely like to see those. When WM and I were first started the game club, i told him that i thought it'd be funny to make a short demo of sorts based around some of the staff and members here at TFF. Sounds like somebody has done it already though. He actually is working on a project for the Brotherhood of Doom. To seriously work on something in Rpg maker 2000/2003/XP, you have to have a serious motivation or inspiration and recently i just haven't had that. But honestly, this makes me think of a great idea, an old school cult of kefka video/presentation of sorts in RPG maker!! Not something like Jin did with the staff members at TFF but something for old school RPG players to appreciate. Look for it in the near future.
Anyhoo..after that long post I don't want to rant more. I've decided after seeing the outcome of my thread I'm going to picking up Okami soon to tide me over until Rogue Galaxy. When i get the game i'm also going to reserve Rogue Galaxy as well and hopefully get that demo in the process. Also i'm hoping to get We <3 Katamari soon as well.
Oh man your avatar is hilarious BTW. Is Braska Spira a member here or something?
On an old school note, have any of the DS owners played Children of Mana? I bet you have Loco, having the game hookup and all. It seems to be getting very mixed reviews, IGN to my surprise gave the game an 8! Kinda from i gathered they said it was very good at being a fun dungeon crawler hack and slash kind of game, but anyone expecting a new Secret of Mana will be dissapointed. Then on the flip side, gamespot gave it an 5.8..ouch and gamespy a 2.5/5 stars.
*Sigh* I hope atleast one of these new mana games will turn out to be decent. I'm beginning to lose faith..it seems like all the new titles are keeping the look and of the past games, but stories and gameplay are becoming more and more shallow.

@GLC, I'm cautious about Children of Mana because the last game in the series, Sword of Mana was extreamly disapointing in my opinion. They took away the awsome two player capabilities and made the person who hung around as a CPU crap and uncustomisable as a character. But of cause the 3 before that Secret of Evermore, Secret of Mana, and Seiken Densetsu where kickass. Since you just said people expecting another Secret of Mana will be disapointed, i'm now even more worried. I want another Secret of Mana because it was such a great game. So no I havn't played it evidently.
Your idea for making a RPG maker presentation for TFF sounds cool, You know I've always wanted to make something on RPG maker, but I have never had the patience or determination. Oh and the fact that I don't even know how to do the simplest triggers on it might contribute a bit, I've tried to learn how to do it a few times, but the help file is like a university textbook. I need an actual person to teach me how to use it.
Speaking of Old skool game makers has anyone heard of ZZT?
Setzer's Review Library: Tyrian,
Wii Sports, Zelda: Twilight Princess, Zelda: Minish Cap, Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
Yeah, from what i read basically the gameplay is an EXTREMELY basic version of the combat in Secret of Mana/Seiken Densetsu 3. Essentially, it's a dungeon crawler hack and slash kind of game like Diablo, etc. It's basically fun for the multi player i guess, but it seems like nothing else at that, and the combat gets very repetitive.
So i've started some basic work on my Old Skool Cult of Kefka presentation in rpg maker. I'm not divulging what it's about, who's in it, etc, want to save that for the final project. BUT, i do have one teaser screenshot of sorts that i whipped up this morning. If it you think it looks familiar..it does, or atleast it should.
The name ZZT sounds familiar, but honestly I can't think off the top of my head what it is. What is ZZT?

Hey there chaps. Things have been pretty hectic in my world as of late, so I really haven't had much time for all of the old recreational activities. To sum it up; been working hard, met someone special, and am generally enjoying life as difficult as it is sometimes. I think there's a certain feeling of satisfaction that makes it all worth it. Anyway, my vacation will be starting pretty soon, so whenever I'm not visiting with friends or family, etc., I'll try to get posting again.
On another note, 5 years ago today was when I signed up. Man, a lot of stuff has happened since then. Crazy.
The biggest thing that irritated me about Braska Spira was the fact that he was an absolute graphics whore. He wanted to push for FFIV to be remade into 3D so that the "new gamers" could enjoy the game without having to suffer its horrible lack of graphics.
Oddly enough, he claimed his second favorite game was the original Final Fantasy, if I recall correctly.
But yes, him and I got into it big over graphics. He irritated me to no end, and it ended up being all us Old Skool mods ganging up on the guy and I think he even got banned at some point.
As for the whole RPG Maker idea, I like it. I'll tinker around with it as well on my end to try to get some experience with it before I try to get anything more serious. After all, my oldest dream was to design video games. Perhaps I could "write" my story through an RPG game. Yes, that would be sweetness.
OLD SKOOL - A positive appellation referring to when things weren't flashy but empty of substance, were done by hard work, didn't pander to the lowest common denominator, and required real skill. Labour-saving devices, shortcuts that reduce quality and quitting before the task is done are not characteristics of "old skool."
In reference to computer games, refers to a game that had substantial playability without flashy graphics or eye candy. Old skool gamers appreciate difficult maneuvers, careful planning, and scorched earth policies.
In reference to role-playing games, old skool refers to games that tested players' wits, could kill off careless characters, and required dedication and inner strength to play. Old skool games didn't pander to the ideas that everyone is created equal, that all options are open to all races, that the markets were somehow free, and that a quasi-medieval society could have near 100% literacy.

Oooo, an RPGMaker project eh? Sounds tasty. As for the two that I made...wasn't at least one of them uploaded to your site Cesar? I can't remember. Otherwise, the files are way to damn big for regular display means. Anyways, I'm hoping for the best from that, Général Leo.
I really don't have much to say for myself. Still playing Tactics, on chapter 4. I just killed that pretty old man, Elmdor. Shame. I have FF9 all lined up to go next as well; it's been a while since I've played that one.
Oh yes, and although I was not around during the Braska Spira era, Dawezy's gifs were helluva halarious.

Until now!
I got them uploaded just now, that it was mentioned it sparked a (what little) memory I have, so, archived both games up and you can grab them here;
OSFFC - The Thing 1
OSFFC - The Thing 2
Hell, was The Thing the official name? or were you just a lazy fuck? XD I forget.
In other news though, nothing overly spectacular to report over my end of the planet.. tho I must admit, my mother's parnter Lou (and all the stories you have heard from me) just made me snap* and I swear I nearly rammed his head through the wall ~ egotistical antogonizing piece of shit scumbag who thinks nothing more then what he has accomplished, and nothing of those who havent accomplished asmuch as he has. Its sad =\
* was organizing a huge event with a tonne of people in FFXI, almost a one-off thing you can onry do once.
But hey, I resisted, punched a hole right through the wall near where he was standing and got over it.. Irks me, sure, but what can ya do? No other living options atm >_>

@GLC, ZTT is an old ASCII game making program, which only uses graphics that look like this. But it allowed you to create anytype of game you wanted, RPG, Action, Shooter, Adventure. Because of a simple programming language it had even noobs could create complex scripts that one could remake a FF game with if they wanted, hmm now I wonder if anyone has.
@Dawezy, Geez this Braska Spira guy sounds like a classic fool. In fact he reminds me of a freind of mine, my best freind actually how has a passionate hate for Final Fantasy and for no reason other then to be different from all his mates who love Final Fantasy, so I wonder what he really thinks he get out of hating it so much. Anyway just thought it was a similar story of 2 people with their head up thier ass, preaching bullcrap. It's not that I'm some snobby person who thinks people who like FF are wierdos, it's just that he's never played them properly and he thinks he can just a game by the first 15 minutes.

Yeah if this Braska Spira guy is the same one i'm thinking of..he was just recently around because i only joined a month or two ago. His name while here was Ted Zanarkand if i can remember correctly? I was new here so I didn't want to be going making enemies of myself so I just laughed at him behind closed doors. I do remember blasting him about SOMETHING though, i can't think what though. All i remember is he was a 20 something software programmer or something (which he stated in his sig/profile) and he loves final fantasy, "especially Final Fantasy X, because it superior to all the others." (which i am pretty sure he also stated in his sig). I don't know, there were some other laughable things i remember about him that i can't think of right now. Well i do remember how he would rant about how much he loved Yuna.. And i do specifically remember the graphics whore part too, i wonder what he has to say about FF XII and it's graphics? Kinda puts X's to shame.
@Jin Anyhoo, just checked out your two projects Jin! Haha good stuff indeed. I haven't been around enough to know all the people especially hobbes, but it was pretty damn funny..especially Dawezy and his alcohol and hentai. I'm glad my project i'm making isn't like what you did though or i'd feel like a copycat little beyotch.
@Dawezy, hilarious GIFS, and well done too. Needless to say, my rpg maker project will be along the lines of these animations you guys are making but on a much bigger scale. As much as i rip on characters like Tidus, i have to say that Edward to me is one of the biggest bitches in the FF series yet.
@Setzer, ha thats definitely old school! That's really cool though, i'm gonna have to look into that. I'm all about simple programming languages since i dont have any real education or experience in terms of programming. That'd be quite the project to recreate a FF game in that, but i'm sure it could be done.
@psiko, yeah rpg maker can be fun just to toy around with. I'm the kind of person who learns better by just trying things myself. I don't think i ever read any tutorials on rpg maker, i was just young, eager to learn and make rpgs, and had a lot of free time on my hands i guess. Once you get the hang of things, it's not really the skill, but just the time it takes to make things that gets to you. (though i'm sure there are a LOT of things i still don't know how to do) I'm so lazy and unmotivated now compared to 4 years ago. Oh well, this Old School Cult of Kefka thing should provide for a bit of fun.
Speaking of old school gaming, has anyone heard of this Super Paper Mario for the Wii? Looks like its gonna b a bit of a throwback to the old 2D platforming days mixed in with some 3D parts too..trippy.

@GLC, Well I guessing that this Super Paper Mario is the next in a series of Marios RPGs, which are great by the way. They had had one for each console. Super Mario RPG on Snes, Paper Mario on N64 and Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door on Gamecube. I've played the Snes and N64 one and they are truly great spinoffs of a Final Fantasy like adventure. The Paper mario are 3D games where the characters are cut out pieces of paper, which they make a lot of joke about during the game, like mario not getting hurt by a long fall because he floats down like a piece of paper. So the game is a mixture of turn based RPG and platformer because you jump around like normal but if you jump on enemies it allows you to have a pre-emptive strike.
Anyway thanks for the great new about a Paper Mario coming out on Wii, because I love those games.
@Dawezy, I like the look of the game you made, I pretty much just watched the intro though, pretty funny. So how bad was this Hobbes guy?, worse then Braska Spira?

Lol, Jin made the game.
But Hobbes was a religious little right-wing bitch, wasnt quite at Braska's level (in relation to attempting to highjack old-school marvels) but he was.. well.. damn, words cant put together how much of a fuckup he was ~ honestly, Jin, Scorp, me and Loco were all reasonably active at SU.. hell, I was even an Admin of the damn place and worked on site content with DSH (SU founder, good guy ^^). Due to DSH scoring a full-time job which he enjoyed like hell he entrusted the domain/forum/site to me and Hobbes.
At the time I wasnt overly html savvy, nor PHP for that matter.. but I knew how to work the Admin Forum thing and keep everyone on SU happy & tweak the battle plugin, all the users were loving it. If I recall tho, Hobbes didnt share any of my enthusiasm in the venture and well.. decended into whining, bitching and holding schoolyard-bully-esque grudges.
Sigh.
The domain payments (which John/DSH were taking care of) expired and SU kinda.. lost its lifeline there and then. Domain was down for a few monthes, cant really remember - a new fellow came along, Feywn, or however the hell you spell it. Domain is up and running fine now but I havent touched in it a good 8+ monthes, for the interest has left me entirelly and the forums are as active as a snail after being crushed by a car tire.
Heh.
Basic summary.
Did I make any Gifs of him? I forget. lol
