Ok so have any of you had times where you just try to keep it real and do the right thing and no matter what you do, shit just goes wrong?

Man I sure as hell did tonight! Keep in mind that I'm pretty drunk but I'm trying my best to type and share this with all of you so here goes.

ok so me and my bestie go enjoy some delicious half price wings for dinner tonight right? we go out with some friends from work, with two attractive young ladies mind you. Anyways my friend and one of the girls are clicking quite well, and the other girl and me are having a fun time too. So time comes after dinner and we decide to hit up the bars. Well the chick that my friend is feeling out has to bring her other friend back to the dorm because she is too young, etc, but anywho we go out and drink, things are still going great, better than ever lol. On our way back to the car they start slow dancing, its getting great lol, so we bring her back to my car (since I'm designated drunk driver because I'm a boss) and we head back to the dorm. She invites us in and we head inside, still having a great time. We get inside and talk to the one chick I was talking to earlier and we're all chilling. My friend was like "idk if I want to stay here tonight I wanna take a shower before work" but my girl was like "I have some extra shampoo you'll be good" so I thought everything was set! Little did I know that my friend was being a bitch tonight. After his girl was like "if you want to sleep in my room you can." he STILL pusses out and so after eating a very delicious peanut butter and jelly sandwich I have to drive my friend back to his house. SIGH.

Ok, so not only am I pissed at my friend when I'm supposed to be supportive, I'm a little jealous as well. The girl he could of hooked up with was hot, and not only that her friend was just as good looking. Then he cops out with a shower excuse when he could of showered there no prob, not only blocking himself but me as well, like wtfruit amirite? Like this girl bought my friend drinks and is going to get him McDonalds in the morning, if that isn't true love then I dont know what is anymore. Ya know I'm just trying to do my job of being supportive and being a good wingman, etc but does he deserve to get his mancard pulled after this stunt tonight? I'm considering it.

Anyways, have you ever had a moment where you did everything that one was "supposed" to do in a situation, but everything still backfired and didn't work out in your favor? Discuss here children, and give advice where it's due.

I would have to agree. Seriously, what kind of lame-ass excuse is that? I feel sure their shower is a lot better than his anyway. Also, being drunk as hell and still having the stones to resist feminine wiles from a gorgeous girl? Seriously? Wow.

As for the question, I am not exactly sure what "keeping it real" even means. It's one of those slang phrases that has no real meaning, I guess.

Hell, I wouldn't have missed that opportunity for the world! WTF. That isn't cool at all, haha. Rocky, did your friend explain to you why he made that decision? Maybe he was trying to be a gentleman and not take advantage of them (?).

I believe you did the right thing in supporting him, but you could have also put him to the side and tell him that that he had the chance to take up on the girl's offer before you guys left. He could have at least thought about it then rather than make the decision in haste.

Anyways, you did what you had to do and knowing that you tried to do the right thing is all that matters despite the unfortunate circumstances.

Make sure he doesn't do it again the next time around, haha.

The only possible explanations that I could come up with to explain that behavior is A) He is in a secret relationship with someone and felt bad about cheating or B) he might like dudes. I mean come on every thing that he needed to do the girls were offering solutions for,
Guy: I need to shower
Girls: We have extra shampoo

Guy: I have to have breakfast before work
Girls: We'll grab you some McDonalds while you're taking a shower

That just screams I want you to stay over tonight. And she said he could sleep in her room. Plus you were clicking with the other girl, that's just a **** block, but I don't think it'll effect your standing with the other girl if you talk to her again. He's prob screwed with the girl he was talking to though.

I wouldn't of drove him home. Make his ass get a cab, but play it off as being cool. Something like "Hey man, you need me to call a cab for you? Yeeeaaah I don't think it would be safe for me to drive right now, being drunk and all. I'll chill here for the night, if that's all right with the ladies."

Boom. The duty of a wingman ends when the person you are helping no longer wants help. Best friend or not, that was a uber-douche move on his part.

Well I don't really see this moment as keeping it real; "keeping it real" would have been more like telling your friend to stop being a wuss and sleep with the girl or you could tell him to grab a cab because you have the car and are staying. But I sympathize for ya as your friend spoiled your eve; perhaps he is not a closeted homosexual but has doubts with his ability? Maybe? I don't know, just throwing it out there.


As for "keeping it real" it could mean staying true to yourself and values or it could be an excuss to act ignorant (Chappelle Show skit of "When keeping it real goes wrong") which I talked about with my co-worker today - keeping it real, not the skit.

Anywho, I agree with pretty much everyone here. Your friend got in your way and you should take him down. You should have pulled his penis off and kept it.

I do have one question, though: Did he not explain anything to you? Or even say sorry? If not then you need to use that 'man card' you talked about on him.

Another possibility: perhaps Rocky and his friend have opposite tastes in women. Perhaps Rocky's definition of a hot girl is completely opposite than that of his friend's. Maybe he thought he was going to have to bang a double bagger if he stayed. I'd make up a crappy excuse to get out of that.

Being a friend is also respecting your friend's decisions. Tough luck on your behalf, I suppose, but it's not relevant what his motivation was for not wanting to stay -- rather, he just didn't. The fact that you had to take him home sucks, but I don't really think it makes him any less of a 'man'.

I'll probably get flamed for this. Oh well. Maybe I'm just too stuck in a monogamous mindset. Being with a girl for three years kinda does that.

That is indeed a shitty situation, my friend.

I would have tried for a compromise. I would've stayed over with the chicas, but told my friend that I'd dive him home earlier in the morning, as long as he woke me up.

As for myself, I've been supportive of my friends in their endeavors for sex. Everything from falling on the grenade, to running interference, to getting myself and a jealous ex boyfriend kicked out of a bar.
