Well I would have to say that limbo and tag are the two games I remember the best. I don't have much of a memory for my younger childhood days.
So I am going old school hookie poakie on you. There were tuns of fun kids games like the limbo, kick the can, tag, hide and go seak, and makin fun of polk and his pillow. Ok forget the last one even though polk would be much happier if he rekindled that relationship.
Since we are a world wide comunity I figured I would ask to see what some of your favorite childhood games were. And I am not refering to the ones you have to plug in by the way unless it includes clear colored brads, paper and a light bulb. Yeah I just went there.

When I was young, there seemed to be an actual gangland thing goin on, we would naturally hang in groups and build little huts out of ..eh.. raw materials (just junk) then actually kick the crap out of each other in our feuds...
also hopscotch
My neighbors and I would compete for how many salamanders we could find....kind of a game? We also built box forts and pretended we were power rangers. No one ever let me be the pink power ranger.
Playing 'Power Rangers' was banned from my kindergarten and later my primary school because it was too violent. Which was ridiculous because no one was ever hurt. Adults don't understand a child's world.
Otherwise we'd play bull rush (also banned, but that was probably fair), football (soccer) or rugby on the back field. At home with my brothers we'd let our imaginations go wild, and could play with anything. In particular we went nuts with Lego.
On the weekends, for 'organised' sport, I'd play cricket. For a 6, 7, 8, 9-year-old, I was pretty good. Later I moved on to basketball, however.
Me and my brothers used to play Texas Hold 'Em, which wouldn't make sense for kids to play, unless if you take into account that my oldest brother is thirteen years older than me, and therefore not much into kids games.
I also liked playing chess with my dad. It was difficult at first, but as soon as I got used to the dynamics of the game, and which pieces can do what on the board, it was really fun.

**** YEAH ****IN' LITE BRITE BITCHES!
@Señor Eastwood: My dad was the one who taught me to play chess as well.
Actually, I started playing RISK back in the day when I was 7. Been doing so ever since. Does that count? We also used to play tackle football in the streets when we were kids because we didn't give a shit about scrapes and bruises and bleeding on our clothes.
Man, kids these days are pussies.

Did anyone ever used to play Pile-on? Where you'd push one kid over and all just pile on top of him? That was fun... I remember making a really huge pile-on at one time at the bottom of my street. Almost every child in the street got involved I think. It was great =D
We also used to play British Bulldogs there, and at the top of the street as well because there are two big patches of grass. We'd play dodgeball up against the flats, which HURT. The walls of those flats have little spiky stones all over them, so if you got hit by a ball, you got smacked into those little spikes, too :/.
We played Mob, too... which if I remember correctly is kind of like tag and hide and seek rolled into one, and there's a base that you have to try and get to. I think one person is appointed as the "Mobber" or something, and then everybody else hides, and after the mobber finishes counting, he'll start seeking, so everybody has to sneakily find their way to the appointed base (ours was normally a lamp post) without being caught by the mobber. I'm pretty sure the last one to get there was the next mobber or something like that. Did anyone else play that?
I used to go to the brook a lot with my brothers and catch fish... I got my jelly shoe stuck in there one time though.
Also, barbies. And myScene dolls. Me and my best friend Jessie used to love playing with dolls until we got into Final Fantasy, we didn't play so much then. But I do remember turning one of my dolls into a "Yuna" doll. xD
As for board games; monopoly, kerplunk, frustration, snakes and ladders... those are a few.

kick the can rings a bell but i cant for the life of me think what it was
there was the usual tag, hide and seek. Manhunt up in tandle hills was fun, as was river jumping inthe same place - though that didnt always end up well. Raleo (never even thought about how that may be spelt until now) which was probably one of the favourites. Oh and Bulldog too, though that could be painful. Rounders and cricket on the big field in the middle of the estate
I even had a set of golf clubs that we'd take up to the free golf course at the afore mentioned tandle hills haha. We used to lie in wait and steal peoples golf balls
It was ace bein a kid in the early 90's. All it seems to be now is kids just hanging about on the streets or playing their computer games. No one seems to play anymore, after like, 6 years old.
The amount of times I ended up in A&E. Ah, good times
Hopscotch, Power Rangers, British Bulldogs and tag were my childhood staples.
My favourite was Manhunt though. For those who have never heard of it (and I dunno if it's the same as everywhere else, but here in Scotland...) We basically would use the forests and build bases up in the trees (like little Ewoks ) and we would hunt each other down, and if we found a member of the other team, we would beat the sh*t out of them to get a codeword out of them.
Chicken as well was a good game, although one of my friends was hit and killed by a taxi playing it ... We never played after that.

I don't think I saw I mention of Spotlight, best game ever, for those that don't know it is a bit like 'Whats the time Mr wolf' but at night with a flash light one player has a torch and spins around and attempts to spot the other players sneaking up behind him. Of course they can try and hide however they choose and attempt to touch the player with the torch.
I remember I went camping with my parents on Fraser Island and the setup was like a little community of tents little sand roads of tent houses haha and I started a massive game of spotlight with all the kids in the general area it was so fun until we got upped for using the batteries in the torches.
Board games, my little brother and I used to play monopoly for a whole day, chess I love chess but I never had anyone smart enough to play with.
Also this post is so not a necro post.

The finer details of a signature:
Spotlight means something else entirely in New Zealand, then. It's outdoor, night-time hide-and-go seek. You're 'caught' if you get spotted by the torch and your name called out. Once caught, you either go back 'home' and wait for the game to finish, or join the searching party.
Man I under-appreciated how awesome my childhood was.
Now that sounds like a helluva lot of fun. The most i did as a kid was play the occasional game of hide and seek with my sisters. My father never played with us much since he was either working or getting mad at us.
But i did have the Sega once i turned four, so that ultimately kept me entertained

I grew up on 5 acres of land, and Me, my brother, and sister, would have all of our friends come over and play hide & seek all the time. I actually really didn't stop playing until I was 14 or 15, and I would still play today If I had a group that would do so with me.
Me and one of my good friends Robert would also play games of HORSE, PIG with my uncle all the time. We would also play Smear the queer, and that was one of my favorites because I never lost. They same uncle that played basketball with us all the time would also play football with us, and he would be the full time quarterback for both teams.
Billiards was another thing I did a lot, because my dad bought me a pool table one Christmas. I drove my step-mother crazy playing all day, haha!
RISK was the only board game I ever played, and still do all the time to the date!
I was also a very daring kid growing up, and still am a bit today. Me and Robert would do back & front flips off of everything. Run up walls and do flips, run up walls and grab the roof to climb up, etc..
Climbing trees was another thing we did, I grew up in east Texas, and we had GIANT pine trees to the side and back of our house.
I'll update more later, when I can think of all the other crazy sh*t we did.

We called that flashlight tag where I lived.
Anyway, the game that I probably played most when I was younger was tag. Up until 3-4th grade I played that with some people from my school just about every day. Later on it ended up being more organized sports like football, basketball, capture the flag, etc.
Otherwise, it was mainly board/card games. My grandpa was a game collector, so I've played so many different games. The game I probably played most was Sheepshead, though. My grandparents loved that game and taught it to me when I was ~4. It pretty much became a habit to play it every time I visited them, which was several times a week for a number of years, so we ended up playing a lot.
Besides that, it was the normal games like Chess, Cribbage, Risk, Backgammon, Stratego, etc.
As for Lite Brite, I had a hand-me-down one with all the holes already poked through, so it wasn't that much fun...
We used to play all sorts of games as kids, some traditional, some absolutely retarded. We'd play dodgeball, handball, chinese handball, asses up, tag, freeze tag, baseball, football, kickball, rugby with a bunch of garbage lunch bags that we duct taped together.
We'd play manhunt, but since there weren't any wooded areas by us, we'd play in the streets and alleys in the neighborhood, which made it really fun and kinda ridiculous, because we would hide in parking garages and the like.
It was good times.
