Tattoos: Permanent Reminders of Bad Decisions

So I've been saying since my 18th birthday that I'm going to get some sort of tattoo. Three years later, and I've remained inkless (I don't count that time that I was changing a printer at work and the old cartridge decided to spill all over my hand). I've been throwing some ideas around in my head for a while, one of which can be found in this here thread and the other I shamelessly ripped off from this picture, as I'm totally gay for FFX and I think that's a pretty great design.

But enough about me, this thread is about you (yes, you!).

What do you think of tattoos?

Do you have any tattoos? If so, what is it/are they?

If not, any plans of getting one in the future?

SUPER SECRET BONUS QUESTION: What should Polk get a tattoo of? Best answer will win a prize (Hint: The prize is my eternal respect and admiration. Worth more than any other thing ever, has no monetary value. Sorry )

What do you think of tattoos?
As Winchester from M.A.S.H. once said, it is the poor man's way of investing in art. That and I think that if the artist is happy and the customer is happy then that is a win/win scenario.

Do you have any tattoos? If so, what is it?
I do not have any tattoos. I once tried Henna Tattoos when I was very young.

If not, any plans of getting one in the future?
I can't say that it hasn't crossed my mind. If I had to get a tattoo I would want something devoid of meaning. The number "1" would serve. When someone asks me what it means or what its for I could invent whatever answer I wanted.

What should Polk get a tattoo of?
    Nothing. It says the most.

What do you think of tattoos?
I respect them as a form of art, so I'm not against people getting them done. I think a lot of tattoos look like shit on people when they have them all clustered together. I'm sick and tired of seeing flaming skulls, naked mermaids or graffiti.. I prefer when they're original.

Do you have any tattoos? If so, what is it?
    Nope.

If not, any plans of getting one in the future?
I wouldn't want to, because I get bored of things after awhile.. and to have to have something on me for a long time doesn't sound appealing.

What should Polk get a tattoo of?
    President Polk looking badass?

Tattoos are cool. My bro has some, as does my other bro, and my friends, who are like bros to me. They have some kind of Hebrew characters on their wrists that mean something cool. Don't have any myself, but I'd like to get some someday. Like flames going up my arms and legs. Or depictions of my comic strip characters somewhere.

What should you get? I dunno. What about a pickle with arms and legs beating a dog with a rolling pin? Anyhoo...

What do you think of tattoos?

I like them, but I would never get anything using someones name and where you decide to place them can screw you later. Small ones are fine, like my friend got one of a swallow on her ankle. I don't see any problems with that but, when you're getting stuff tattooed on your face... not such a good idea. Even if you like it now, you're gonna look like a retard when you get older.

Do you have any tattoos? If so, what is it/are they?

    I do not.

If not, any plans of getting one in the future?
I'm not really sure, maybe I should get a Moogle on my ankle

    or this:

I really like the I colored Yuna, background logo you posted. I think it would look legit. It seems like it might look homo with all the pinks and pwetty colors but one of my friends has colored tattoos on his arm and they look really cool, not fruity looking at all.

What do you think of tattoos?
They are a personal choice and people whom do have them should not be shuned by society. They are a form of art. Some people get them because like the modifications via art and some get them because they have sentimental value. In no way do I see them as being a bad thing as long as they are not demeaning or disrespectful.

Do you have any tattoos? If so, what is it/are they?
I have one on my right wrist on the inside of my arm just past my palm. It is a simple tatto but means the world to me. I have posted pics of it here before. It is a simple banner with my sons birth date in the middle of it. His first name (Breyen) is above it and his middle name (James) is below it.

I plan on getting a matching tat on the other wrist just mirror imaged with my other sons name (Aaden Michael) done the same way. Eventually I might add some more to them to make them less simplistic but after I get the second one I think I will be pleased just to keep the simpicity.

Eventually I do plan on getting more and I have sketched up some but as of right now it is a budget issue. I have a buddy that does them but it still cost me for ink and needles.

Word of warning though, they are addicting. I have my one and I don't want to stop til I get all of the ones I want.

If not, any plans of getting one in the future? Heh.

SUPER SECRET BONUS QUESTION: What should Polk get a tattoo of? Best answer will win a prize.
For a first I say to make sure what ever you get will have some kind of meaning to you. That way you don't regret it later down the line. Also make sure to get it some where that 30 years down the line it doesn't look like a prune. With that said you should know better then any one on what you should get. Just don't get a baked potato tatoo.

    : edit :

Also I just noticed a error in the title of this thread. Tatoos are no longer permanent. There are multiple proceedures that can lighten and or completely remove tatoos. That is one of the reasons tatooing is now perfectly legal here in Oklahoma. Thank god for loop holes in the system haha.

The law is set up against tatooing but the people that wrote the bill were dumb enough to write it out that "permanent body modification are deemed to be unfit and there fore also deemed illegal."

Stupid bible belt. Now if we could just find a loop hole to make 6pt beer legal for sell in convinant stores. Oh well there is always the liquor store for that.

Re: Tattoos: Permanent Reminders of Bad Decisions

I think tattoos can be cool, and if it means something to the person then it makes it even cooler. My older brother has a tattoo on his calf. Can't for the life of me think of what it exactly is right now though. I know that there's a sword involved, and I think it's being stabbed through a heart. *shrugs*

I don't have one of my own, and I probably won't get one seeing as how I think being stuck with a needle is one of the scariest things in the world, and having one jabbed into my skin repeatedly doesn't seem like a very appealing thought to me. More power to the people who can sit through that kind of thing though.

I'll have to agree with what other people have said and say get something that has meaning for you. But if/when you do get inked, you should post a pic of it so we can see how it looks. You just can't start TWO threads about getting a tattoo and not show us what you got!

I've been meaning to get something done, but I can't think of something that would definetely remain something I'd like in future. I'm a huge fan of properly done tattoos though...

My advice is to ask around about who the better artists are (most areas have better ones and others no-one will reccomend) and for your design...

What do you think of tattoos?
I think they're permanent marks or designs made on the skin by a process of pricking and ingraining an indelible pigment or by raising scars.

    Do you have any tattoos?
    No.

If not, any plans of getting one in the future?
You wouldn't put a bumper sticker on a Mercedes, so no.

Re: Tattoos: Permanent Reminders of Bad Decisions

I don't have a problem with tattoos, as long as they're not something incredibly stupid. And to me, getting a tattoo of a movie/tv/video game theme is just plain dumb. Like the guy I saw in a bar a few months ago that had a huge Yoda on his arm. Of course, he'd probably gotten it thirty years ago. Regret this tattoo, you will.

And some of them -- like most facial piercings -- might as well be signs that say, "hello, it's nice to meet you. I am a complete moron. Don't hire me." Or, "here's something on my lower back to look at while you screw me from behind, which you probably will get to do the same night you meet me because I'm incredibly easy."

    I've got three.

This is on my left inner forearm -- it's not a picture of mine though, and mine was done correctly, with dogtags hanging from the pistol grip.

I had this made into a tattoo, and it looks better as a tattoo than it does as a patch. That's on my right shoulder -- not the back, but the deltoid muscle.

The first one I got was taken from the back of the memorial program for a Soldier in my unit that was killed in Iraq. It consists of an American flag and an Engineer flag crossed, with a First Cavalry Division patch over where the flagpoles intersect.

I'm not sure what else I'll get, but I do want more. Like Meier said, they're addicting. I know I will get a black band, maybe 3/8 or 1/2 inch wide, around my left wrist -- just below the boots of my Soldiers' Memorial. And I want something on my right outer forearm (gotta balance 'em all out), which will probably have something to do with, "si vis pacem, para bellum", which is Latin for, "if you want peace, prepare for war". I've known that saying since long before the Punisher came out, and I might even get the entire quote instead of just that little tidbit.

What do you think of tattoos?
I don't mind them, for the most part. I'm not a fan of the almost full body ones, but if the person likes it, they can do it if it floats their boat. The symbolic ones are nice, though, saying if it's a memory of your mother, your favorite animal, or something of that nature. I would /never/ get one of a current lover though. That's a little to permanent if you ask me. If you break up with them or something, you're kind of screwed to either get it removed or die with the memory. Also, I'm pretty conservative, so I'd like it in a place where it's not too out in the open so you can go through a job interview without your boss giving second guesses.

Do you have any tattoos? If so, what is it/are they?
    No.

If not, any plans of getting one in the future?
Possibly. I would like something music-related on the inside of my foot(where I can hide it in a shoe or something, but still be able to show it off with a wearing of a flip-flop).

SUPER SECRET BONUS QUESTION: What should Polk get a tattoo of?

Something you're pretty passionate about this way you don't regret getting it later.

    I have always liked tattoo's.

Do you have any tattoos? If so, what is it/are they?

I have three tattoo's. The first I ever got wason my foreman. It is the cereberus from FFVII DoC. The next was on my upper back. It says Semper Fi across. Me and my teammates got a tramp stamp tattoo that says RAW POWER(it is capitalized). I plan to go get another after I get home from Iraq.

What do you think of tattoos?
I like them as long as they are tasteful and artistic. I don't like things which look really generic, as it takes away the point of having them. I also hate name tattoos unless someone has done it well, and there is a reason behind it (not the name of a current partner). I would never have a name tattoo though. Portraits I dislike too.

Do you have any tattoos? If so, what is it/are they?
Yes. I have two peacock-serpent creatures on my shoulderblades which form a pair of wings, and I also have a design on my upper back based on the Quincy Zeichen from Bleach, but made into a blue flamey flower-like design. I designed all of them myself, and didn't rush into any of the decisions.

What do you think of tattoos?
i personally am not a fan of full body tattoos, the idea of the tattoo is to keep a piece of art close to you. some have one that is meaningful others have one cause they did it on a whim.
Do you have any tattoos? If so, what is it/are they?
    no i don't

i might, i have plans for a life scale tattoo of the atomic structure of Titanium.

What do you think of tattoos?
They're okay sometimes. I prefer smaller ones and only one here and there, nothing clustered together messily.

    Do you have any tattoos?

No and I most likely wouldn't.

If not, any plans of getting one in the future?
Nah because my dad has them and he regrets all of them. The designs he has are all very 60's and 70's, very drug/booze/gambling related, none of which he cares about or has cared about for years and years.

I don't mind them aslong as people don't go over the top, like lizard man and cat man (duno how many here know of those) but waaaaay over the top.

Do you have any tattoos? If so, what is it/are they?

I have a small one on the back of my left shoulder blade, its a heart with a thing, lol I can't remember it, it's on my back so I hardly ever se it, but will stick a picture on so you can see lol.

What do you think of tattoos?
Always loved them, ever since I was a kid, i just think they are ace.... badly done ones though...ughhhh you really need to pay the extra money and go somewhere reputable coz youre stuck with this shit for life. Ive seen some right nasty jobs....

Do you have any tattoos? If so, what is it/are they?
Dolphin on my arm, probably the one i really wish i didnt have, but its only small, and it was a case of, id just turned 18,. i was bored on my dinner hour and had this fantastic idea to go find the largest cheapest tattoo i could find - and that was the result
Theres a dragon on my shoulder blade which I love...even though i cant see it so it could be really crap for all i know.... from what ive made out, the tail which is right on the bone looks a tad suspect, but i kept moving so its my own fault
And wings on my lower back. the favourite of the lot and they took me 3 years to decide on, made sure i went to a decent tattooist this time as they are pretty big!

If not, any plans of getting one in the future?
I'd defo get more in the future, maybe one or 2... im just really indecicive, like i know one i want but i dont know where i want it, and i want one up my right hand side like from hip bone and up to my under arm but i dont know what i want - and it will also cost a fortune.... and i really want to go on holiday D:
